Hello Everyone,

Up for auction is a very rare Strawberry Red 1957 Mercedes-Benz 190SL Roadster. This 190SL is fully numbers matching and is a true 543 Strawberry Red.

Let me start out by letting you know that  I am a classic car broker that is representing the vehicle for a client.

Here is a brief history on the vehicle:

This vehicle was sold new at the Philadelphia area Mercedes-Benz dealer on July 7, 1958 to Mr. Benedict J. Cosenzo of Downingtown, Pa.
Mr. Cosenzo garage kept the car in the Philadelphia suburbs as a secondary luxury vehicle for just shy of 32 years.
On May 5, 1990, this 190SL found a new home just 7 miles away in the private collection of Mr. Edward F. Sheller of West Chester, Pa.
Mr. Sheller cherished this vehicle and had a full restoration done from 1992 to 1994 at a well known European Specialist shop in Wayne, Pa.
Sheller went on to show the car at many car shows, drive the car on countless tours, and enjoy the car as he grew old. Mr. Sheller passed away in 2008 and the car sat in storage until his son sold to the car to the present owner in July of 2009. The present owner and his family have thoroughly enjoyed this car... taking it to car shows, going on cruises, participating in parades, and just all around loving the car.

Now it is time for this vehicle to move on to a new home again.
This vehicle has been meticulously taken care of since day one. I have a binder that was provided by the present owner that documents every single service of this car from the 1970's to the present day. I have been a broker for quite sometime and this is one of the most documented vehicles service wise that I have ever dealt with.

The car is an excellent driver. A few years ago, the present owner had the temperamental Solex carbs replaced with much better running Weber side drafts. The car is a blast to drive and having driven 190's with the Solex's, these Weber's were a welcomed upgrade. The car runs smooth as glass and drives like a new car. The original Solex's and all related parts are included with the car.

What the car needs:

The car does need some work and I want to make that very clear, that is the reason the pricing is so low. The largest issue with this vehicle is the paint. The paint is a very decent 10ft paint job... its when you get up close that you begin to see the cracking in the basecoat. The strangest part of all this is that the clear is still super smooth and the cracking cannot be felt. The entire car will have to be painted to make it perfect.

The chrome work on the car is in decent shape. The bumpers are in good shape, the trim work is clean, but the chrome around the windows and the door handles could use a rechrome as they are starting to pit.

The interior appears to be a very original interior. As far as the paperwork shows, it looks like the leather is the original 1957 leather. The rug in the vehicle will have to be replaced as well as it is worn from driving.
The gauges are still very clear and all of them work well. The radio is in good working order and the speaker sounds clear as well.
The steering wheel and shift knob have little stress cracks in it as all the original steering wheels and knobs do.

All of the worn parts on the car are readily available with NOS replacements online.

With all of the issues I have stated above, I have had 3 independent estimates from different Mercedes-Benz certified shops to repaint, rechrome, and replace the worn parts. The highest estimate came in at $25,000. That being said, the price has been adjusted accordingly. The owner understands that no one is going to pay $200,000 for a car that needs to be painted.

Given the current market and sales trends for the rare and desirable Strawberry Red, they have been selling very well. The current record for a 190SL is held by a Strawberry Red one just like this for over $200,000. Other 190SL's in decent shape and rare color combos have been averaging 160-190,000 in the last few years. The reserve is set at a fair price for the state the car is in.

Please look at all the photos and ask as many questions as you would like. I am the broker representing the vehicle and I will do my best to answer all of your questions.

SERIOUS BIDDERS ONLY PLEASE.

Best car infotainment systems: From UConnect to MBUX, these are our favorites

Sun, Jan 7 2024

Declaring one infotainment system the best over any other is an inherently subjective matter. You can look at quantitative testing for things like input response time and various screen load times, but ask a room full of people that have tried all car infotainment systems what their favorite is, and you’re likely to get a lot of different responses. For the most part, the various infotainment systems available all share a similar purpose. They aim to help the driver get where they're going with navigation, play their favorite tunes via all sorts of media playback options and allow folks to stay connected with others via phone connectivity. Of course, most go way beyond the basics these days and offer features like streaming services, in-car performance data and much more. Unique features are aplenty when you start diving through menus, but how they go about their most important tasks vary widely. Some of our editors prefer systems that are exclusively touch-based and chock full of boundary-pushing features. Others may prefer a back-to-basics non-touch system that is navigable via a scroll wheel. You can compare it to the phone operating system wars. Just like some prefer Android phones over iPhones, we all have our own opinions for what makes up the best infotainment interface. All that said, our combined experience tells us that a number of infotainment systems are at least better than the rest. WeÂ’ve narrowed it down to five total systems in their own subcategories that stand out to us. Read on below to see our picks, and feel free to make your own arguments in the comments. Best infotainment overall: UConnect 5, various Stellantis products Ram 1500 Uconnect Infotainment System Review If thereÂ’s one infotainment system that all of us agree is excellent, itÂ’s UConnect. It has numerous qualities that make it great, but above all else, UConnect is simple and straightforward to use. Ease of operation is one of the most (if not the single most) vital parts of any infotainment system interface. If youÂ’re expected to be able to tap away on a touchscreen while driving and still pay attention to the road, a complex infotainment system is going to remove your attention from the number one task at hand: driving. UConnect uses a simple interface that puts all of your key functions in a clearly-represented row on the bottom of the screen. Tap any of them, and it instantly pulls up that menu.

Meet Buster, this 1968 Porsche racecar transporter from Mercedes

Thu, Dec 11 2014

If you're thinking about Porsche and Mercedes-Benz when it comes to motorsports, your first thought is probably on the two German brands battling on the track. However, for decades, whenever Porsche's factory team went to compete, a custom Mercedes was right along with them hauling the racecars. These days the truck lives in the Brumos Collection in Jacksonville, FL, and goes by the nickname Buster. However, its story goes back to 1968 when Porsche ordered two commercial vehicles from Mercedes and then handed them over to a Stuttgart-based outfitter for customization. The results were these racing transporters that hauled models like the 917 and 956 until the '80s. The other survived, too, with a place in Porsche's collection. Well-known racers in their own right, Brumos scooped up the transporter in 2003 and have kept driving it to vintage racing events. The interior now boasts the signatures of many of the great drivers from the era of this historic truck. Watch the video for the whole story on the Mercedes with a whole lot of Porsche inside.

Mercedes-Benz GLA Concept crossover leaked ahead of Shanghai debut

Wed, 17 Apr 2013

With just a few days left before the start of the Shanghai Motor Show, images of the Mercedes-Benz GLA Concept compact crossover have emerged online. The little 'ute is based on the small A-Class hatchback, and though it shares an identical wheelbase, is larger in every other dimension.
Looking like a rough-and-tumble five-door hatchback on the tippy toes of its 20-inch wheels, the GLA is most certainly destined for production in a toned down form that will borrow many bits and pieces from other cars based on this platform like the aforementioned A-Class and the CLA-Class sedan. Carscoop reports that the production version of the GLA will be revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September of this year, with sales to the public starting in 2014.
Since it's based on the A-Class, we expect that the production GLA-Class will be powered by your choice of Mercedes' 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine and a diesel or two, and will offer transmissions that include the company's seven-speed DCT and perhaps a six-speed manual (at least in Europe). If the GLA follows the same path as the two cars before it, expect a GLA45 AMG producing over 300 horsepower, as well. As for what powers the GLA Concept, that just might remain a mystery until the vehicle is officially revealed in China.
