Mercedes 190e 2.3 Litre 16-valve Cosworth + Manual Getrag "dogleg" Transmission on 2040-cars
Phoenix, Arizona, United States
I have for sale a 1986 Mercedes 190e 2.3 16v Cosworth plus an extra original Getrag Manual "Dogleg" Transmission . For those of you who
are looking at this ad, you know that this is a true Mercedes
collector's car. It was built for the race track and was beautifully
engineered to provide amazing driving performance. I purchased this car because of my fascination with the history of this vehicle and general love for Mercedes engineering. I have found it to be so much fun to drive even with having the automatic transmission. I had intended to swap in a manual transmission (notes below about extra tranny) but my wife and I are planning to return to Europe much sooner than we had thought so I must sell this vehicle much sooner than I had hoped. I hope that it will provide many years of enjoyment to its new owner.
Almost all of the options work apart from the passenger rear window and the sunroof. The sunroof motor operates with the switch but the sunroof itself doesn't move. All of the seats are still in good condition but would need minor repair work in a few areas, which is very common for these vehicles. The door panels are also in good condition with the two rear panels needing some repair where they meet the window. The car's radio was also upgraded to a mechless usb/mp3/aux input head unit and the car's exhaust was also upgraded, giving the car a much nicer sound and improving its performance. The automatic transmission shifts smoothly and the car is very fun to drive, providing great acceleration and handling. Here is a list of mechanical repairs that were done, some of which are very important for keeping the car in its original condition: Water pump replaced Front and rear suspension bushings replaced Rear hydraulic suspension repaired Posi rear suspension repaired Belt tensioner replaced. AC system repaired and recharged. Front brake calipers and rotors upgraded Cooling system repaired All new tires and upgraded wheels put on (tires still under warranty with Discount Tire) Car's paint is in very good condition New battery With the sale, I will also include an extra Getrag 5 speed manual 'dogleg' gearbox (rare and difficult to find) as well as an extra hydraulic fluid pump and reservoir. My original intention was to convert the car to a manual transmission so I purchased this transmission from someone who had this as a good back up in case his transmission ever went out. I don't have a lot of information on it. The blue you might see on the side of it in the pictures is just left over tape that was put around where the linkages attach to protect them. The slave cylinder looks new and generally the transmission looks to be in good condition. The conversion to manual is not a very difficult swap and this is the hardest element to find, particularly with this specific shift pattern. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any further questions at 6029185887. |

Mercedes may be working on a new electric car dubbed 'Ecoluxe'
Fri, Dec 26 2014Automobile has a lengthy piece this month on how the four German mass-market luxury manufacturers each plan to go after Tesla with their own electric vehicles. It was written by Georg Kacher, the magazine's European bureau chief, and the English version came a month after he wrote the German-language original for Autobild. Tesla isn't exactly a threat to the Germans, but, according to the report, the Model S is planting the right kinds of seeds in niches that are important to the luxury players. The thinking is that - in addition to needed electric vehicles anyway for stricter US regulations - it's better to start designing the machinery now. The article posited Porsche's attack would rest on the coming Panamera platform, but a big hurdle would be battery placement. Unable to find one large space for a lithium-ion pack, engineers would instead put batteries everywhere they could, for a supposed tally of some "108 battery pouches" throughout the body. A few days after the Automobile piece, however, Porsche publicly said it had no intention of challenging the Model S, because the enthusiastic driving the brand is known for doesn't jive with useful range. In Kacher's retelling, Mercedes' plans are even more ambitious, supposedly taking aim at the Model S and the coming Model X. It would do this with an investment in excess of $2 billion in a program called "Ecoluxe" – Mercedes has no brand division akin to BMW's i and Audi's e-tron. The new brand would create a four-strong family of bespoke electric vehicles: a smaller platform with a wheelbase around 106 inches and a larger one with a wheelbase around 118 inches. In addition, the range would have "provisions for rear-wheel drive, all-wheel drive, and rear-wheel steering." The numbers are impressive: seating for seven in the larger vehicles, both longer than 16 feet, front and rear storage areas, ratings of up to 610 horsepower and production capacity of 80,000 units per year. When would we see such creatures? Perhaps as soon as 2019. We do know that if Tesla can knock the Model X over the outfield fence, automakers are going to have to do something. We don't know what the chances are that Ecoluxe is Mercedes' first move - but such a plan could help explain the weird Mercedes concept spied in October.
Mercedes S-Class Magic Body Control ad is clucking awesome
Tue, 24 Sep 2013This is a new ad from Mercedes-Benz. At no point does it show an automobile. Instead, it stars animals, but not the sort you might normally see in car commercial. This ad is all about chickens. It is bizarre, to say the least, with Diana Ross and the Supremes belting it out in the background, but it all kind of comes together when you realize just what Mercedes is hawking (yeah, pun intended).
It's for the manufacturer's Magic Body Control, found on the new S-Class. The system basically analyzes the road and prepares the suspension accordingly, leading to a ride that is, in the words of our own Chris Paukert "nothing short of spooky." You can read about it in our full review of the 2014 S550. Take a look below for the 53-second spot.
Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG shows up to fight the hottest hatches [w/videos]
Wed, 13 Feb 2013Fun coincidence. On the same day that Audi announces the unveiling of its new S3 Sportback at the Geneva Motor Show, Mercedes-Benz steals the spotlight by confirming that the all-new A45 AMG will also receive its official debut early next month. Starting life as the entry-level A-Class hatchback, the A45 AMG gets the full AMG treatment, which includes numerous performance, handling and styling upgrades.
Under the hood sits an AMG-tuned 2.0-liter turbocharged I4 breathing through a sport exhaust system helping the five-door produce 360 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. This engine is paired to a seven-speed AMG dual-clutch transmission and power is sent to the ground using 4Matic all-wheel drive. Mercedes-Benz says that the A45 AMG will be able to accelerate from 0-60 miles per hour in under 4.5 seconds and it will have a top speed of 155 mph; in the land of hot hatches, it doesn't get much hotter than that. For added performance and handling, AMG has retuned the A-Class' suspension and steering systems and equipped The A45 with a three-stage stability control system that is specific to this car.
Surprisingly, the exterior styling of the A-Class was already sporty enough that the new model doesn't receive too many changes to become the A45 AMG. The biggest alterations include black accents to the chin spoiler, rocker panels and mirror caps, black wheels with red-painted brake calipers and rectangular dual exhaust outlets. Inside, it doesn't take a trained eye to spot the differences. The flat-bottomed sport steering wheel and the numerous red accents throughout the cabin (including the seatbelts!) really help to make this AMG interior stand out; front passengers will also get sport bucket seats that appear to be more than supportive enough for even the most spirited driving conditions.
