  • Condition:
  • This vehicle is in excellent condition on the interior, especially for a 26 year old vehicle. Everything is still stock, and the original car first aid kit is still in the rear shelf compartment. The leather seats are in great condition with no cracks, chips, or other signs of stressing. The dashboard, doors, headliner, and carpeting is all intact, stainless, and clean. The vehicle comes with some black Mercedes Benz floor carpet/mats that are a bit worn, but are holding up well. The sunroof functions, as do all the electronics.
  • The exterior of the vehicle is in good shape aside from normal wear and tear, door dings, a few paint chips, and the like. It looks very clean. The windows are all intact and are not cracked or chipped.
  • The wheels are all original and the tires were replaced less than 5k miles ago.
  • Starts and runs every time, but after driving for about 10-15 minutes, or once the engine has really warmed up, she has taken to occasionally stalling at stops. Most of the time you can re-start the engine immediately, but there have been an increasing amount of times lately where she won't restart for about 20 minutes. I'm confident this is a fixable problem, and if I wasn't looking to scratch some money together for a motorcycle I'd be happy to devote more time to it.
  • Smoke-free.
  • Mileage is all original and accurate.

  • Features:
  • After-market Pioneer stereo with single CD/MP3 capability and AUX cable port on it. All the original factory speakers function with this stereo.
  • Original Owner's Manual and documents.
  • Service records for several years worth of repairs maintenance available.

  • History:
  • This vehicle was my grandfather's before he passed and belonged to my second cousin before that. Prior to those two I'm unaware of any owners. I've had her for 4 years and daily commuted with her for the first two. Despite 26 years on, she is still a lot of fun to drive. The ride is plush and she will cruise at autobahn speeds all day.

  • Shipping and payment:
  • Winning bidder will coordinate and pay shipping.
  • I have the title for transfer in hand.
  • Payment should be PayPal, Cashier's check, or cash in person.

Clark Gable's 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing doesn't sell, then does sell for $1.85 million [UPDATE: w/video]

Sat, 19 Jan 2013

How much extra value does previous celebrity ownership add to of a car? Really, there's no way to know until the car in question hits the auction block and bidders start raising their hands. In the case of the 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing you see above, the celebrity owner is none other than Clark Gable, who purchased it new. After Gable's death in 1960, the car changed hands a few times before settling with Charles Wood in 1975.
A high-dollar restoration was performed in 1989, and period accessories added by Gable himself were kept in place, including the Rudge knock-off wheels and Nardi steering wheel. Any Mercedes-Benz 300SL is worth a big chunk of money. In the case of Clark Gable's old Gullwing, the bidding stalled at $1.9 million here at the 2013 Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale. As one of the 5000-series cars, this 300SL carried a reserve, and a bit of after-the-fact dealmaking saw the car change hands for $1.85 million.

Maybach officially discontinues all models for 2013

Tue, 14 Aug 2012

The word "Maybach" has joined the long list of synonyms for the word "kaput." Mercedes-Benz released the price list for the 2013 models of its super-luxury sedans, with the price column simply stating "Discontinued" for each one of them.
The 2012 models, should there be any left for 11th-hour buyers, maintain the increased MSRPs that Daimler slapped on them late last year after it was known the brand would be terminated next year. But you might still be able to wrangle that $100,000 rebate if you ask nicely, or in Russian, or have Rick Ross ask for you.
It shouldn't be too long before we see the ultimate version of the next generation S-Class, the S600 Pullman, that will replace Maybach. Intriguingly, it's said the Pullman will be offered with every S-Class engine, even the four-cylinder diesel.

Mercedes could make EV batteries with Audi, BMW

Mon, Sep 21 2015

It's not a big leap from digital maps to batteries, it turns out.The head of Mercedes-Benz parent Daimler said recently that he envisions his company working together with German automotive competitors BMW and Volkswagen to further accelerate electric-vehicle battery technology. The three automakers recently worked together to enhance their in-car maps systems. Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche talked about "commonalities" between automakers, not the least of which is the need for all of them to achieve increasingly stringent fuel-economy requirements in the European Union, at the Frankfurt Auto Show last week, according to Reuters. While these companies have made their own inroads as far as plug-in vehicles go, they are all behind the Renault-Nissan Alliance when it comes to public deployment of electric vehicles. This summer, Daimler, Audi and BMW hooked up to acquire the Nokia Here digital-mapping service for about $2.8 billion. The triad of automakers beat out companies such as Apple and Uber to buy the entity, which was founded in 1986 as Navteq. Nokia bought the company in 2007. The acquisition makes sense as the automakers work on improving their products with features like cloud-based data to warn drivers of icy roads and traffic jams. The technology will likely also eventually be used in autonomous vehicles. Automakers working together for a common goal of improved technology is nothing new, of course. General Motors and Honda agreed in 2013 to work together to accelerate hydrogen fuel-cell drivetrain development. Earlier that same year, Daimler said it would work with Ford and Nissan in a separate collaboration to speed up the development of hydrogen fuel-cell technology. Related Video:
