1993 Mazda Rx-7 Touring Coupe 2-door 1.3l Twin Turbo Rotary on 2040-cars
Forsyth, Georgia, United States
This vehicle would make a great starting platform for someone looking to convert it for racing!
The car was purchased in 1994 by my brother (second owner) and has been in the family ever since. It is mostly stock (see below for exceptions) and has been kept in a garage or carport for most of the last 20 years. It is in very good physical condition for its age and mileage. The car has 120,654 miles on the frame. The engine has somewhere between 50K and 60K. The clutch has about 10,000 miles on it. As far as I know, the car has been in one accident in 2003; it was hit in the right front quarter. There are some minor body alignment issues on the right front corner with the bumper, hood, and headlight, but nothing excessive. There is also a small dent over the passenger door where it was hit by a falling tree branch. There is some paint oxidation on the roof and rear bumper that can probably be polished out. The hood and front bumper are in better shape because they were repainted after the accident. There are minor paint dings in a few places, the largest of which is on the driver's door where someone opened a car door into it. All of these issues should be visible from the photos. The interior of the car is in very good shape. There is some normal wear in the leather of the driver's seat as would be expected from the car's age. The carpet is clean and has been protected by floor mats for the life of the car. The car is equipped with the Bose Acoustic Wave sound system that was created especially for this model car. The subwoofer system in the rear needs an amplifier rebuild. See the photos for details on interior condition. About a year ago, the car was taken to our local Mazda dealer because it would not accelerate. By the time it had been moved a couple of times in the parking lot where it broke down and then put on a tow truck, it had flooded out. The dealer replaced the plugs, wires, and coils to get it started again. At that point, they started trying to troubleshoot the acceleration problem. They replaced the fuel pump with an aftermarket unit and apparently broke the fuel quantity sending unit in the process. The fuel gauge does not currently work, although the low fuel light still comes on at the proper time. The next thing the dealer tried was replacing the catalytic converters, which were supposedly clogged. They couldn't find suitable replacements, so they installed a performance steel downpipe. So the car is now straight-piped from the turbo outlet to the muffler. They spent a couple of months messing with it and could never get it to work. We sent it to a Mazda specialist in Atlanta who replaced the throttle position sensor and then the secondary fuel injectors and finally got the car running again. Less than two thousand miles later, the plastic coolant air separator tank split, causing the car to overheat and shut down just down the street from our driveway. We were able to restart the car after it cooled and move it into the driveway, where we replaced the air separator tank with an aluminum one and replaced the coolant. However, we have not been able to start the car since. It is badly flooded again and will drip oily fuel out the exhaust. We tried removing the plugs and cleaning them, draining the combustion chambers, and reassembling it, but no luck. The car will fire and sputter a little bit, but won't catch and start. Fixing it may be as simple as new plugs, or it may take some more drastic measures. I honestly don't know. We had to replace the car with something more reliable for my son to drive to school, so we are selling the car as-is. This car would be a great project purchase for someone more mechanically inclined than I am who can get it started, tuned up, and maybe converted for racing. It is lightning fast and a lot of fun to drive. In addition to the repairs and modifications above, most of the vacuum lines and check valves have been recently replaced and it has a new alternator and serpentine belt. Buyer will be responsible for taking delivery of the car or having it shipped to your location. It will require transport that can account for the fact that it cannot be started. Thanks for looking! I would love to see this car go to someone who will fix it up and really enjoy it to its full potential. My brother loved driving it, my son loved driving it, and I'm sure you will too! |

2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata gets 25 percent fuel economy boost
Sat, Apr 25 2015Just days after revealing full pricing and specs for each trim level of the 2016 MX-5 Miata, Mazda is spilling the beans on the roadster's fuel economy. As it turns out, the numbers show an impressive boost over the previous generation. All 2016 Miatas in the US are equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that makes 155 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque. With a six-speed manual, the EPA estimates fuel economy of 27 miles per gallon city, 34 mpg highway and 30 mpg combined. Buyers choosing the six-speed automatic, which is a $1,075 option (that you should absolutely not choose), are expected to get 27 mpg city, 36 mpg highway and 30 mpg combined. Compared to the previous-gen model with a six-speed manual, these latest numbers represent a 25-percent improvement in mileage. The boost in economy for the Miata likely comes from a variety of sources. Underneath the hood is one of Mazda's latest Skyactiv engines, and the loss of around 150 pounds from the last gen helps too. Production of the latest version of the famous roadster is already underway, and they should start arriving at dealers in the late summer. 2016 MAZDA MX-5 MIATA FUEL ECONOMY IMPROVES DRAMATIC 25 PERCENT VERSUS OUTGOING MODEL 24/04/15 - Mazda's Flagship Roadster Highlights Improvements Displayed by SKYACTIV Technology - IRVINE, Calif., April 24, 2015 -- Lighter, quicker and more nimble than its predecessor, the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata demonstrates the power innovation can have when re-engineering a roadster from the ground up. In addition to all of the aforementioned improvements the 2016 MX-5 has, fuel economy can now be added to the list, with MX-5 achieving an EPA-estimated 27 mpg city/34 mpg highway/30 mpg combined when equipped with the standard SKYACTIV-MT six-speed manual transmission (EPA-estimated 27 mpg city/36 mpg highway/30 mpg combined when equipped with the six-speed automatic). This performance represents a 25-percent increase in fuel economy versus the 2015 MX-5's EPA-estimated fuel economy when paired with the outgoing model's available six-speed manual transmission, highlighting the benefits of SKYACTIV Technology. "SKYACTIV Technology is more than a catchphrase for Mazda; it's a total effort to increase efficiency, improve performance, safety and technology and instill each Mazda vehicle with a directness and responsiveness that's unmatched in the segments in which our vehicles compete," said Jim O'Sullivan, president and CEO, Mazda North American Operations.
2015 Mazda3 shows its shape
Tue, 12 Feb 2013Mazda's new Kodo design language is set to quickly spread across the automaker's entire lineup, judging by these spy shots of the next-generation Mazda3 that show some very familiar styling cues. No matter, we're impressed with what Mazda has done on the CX-5 crossover and Mazda6 sedan in terms of design, and we're happy to see the C-segment hatchback ditching the smile-for-a-mile Nagare design.
It's unclear what sort of architecture is found below the new Mazda3 - our spy shooters suggest that the car could simply be using a heavily massaged version of the Ford C1 platform found under the current car. Our best guess is that it's actually a reworked version of the platform used in the CX-5 crossover, however, chocked full of weight-saving Skyactiv technologies. After all, the CX-5 plays in the compact CUV segment, and those vehicles are commonly based on C-segment platforms. And besides, there's probably some economic savings at work with the new chassis - both in terms of fuel efficiency and economies of scale. Still, no one is totally certain what lies under all that black-and-white paper at the moment.
The new Mazda3 is targeted to arrive for the 2015 model year, meaning we could see a final production car debut as early as this year. We expect the hatch you see here to debut along with a traditional four-door sedan, and unless we hear otherwise, we don't doubt that a Mazdaspeed version will be far behind.
2021 L.A. Auto Show roundup | All the reveals, reviews, pictures
Thu, Nov 18 2021The L.A. Auto Show took place this week for the first time since the onset of the pandemic. It was a show packed with news and reveals, which hasn't really been the case with other shows we've seen this year, and Autoblog was on the floor covering every minute of it. Well, Riswick and Stocksdale were, anyway. The rest of us were sitting at home in our sweatpants, but hey, we'll take credit anyway. Let's get to it. Hyundai Seven Concept This is the Hyundai Seven Concept, and it’s meant to act as a preview for an incoming electric SUV for the Ioniq brand. It leans more toward the concept side of the spectrum than a production car, but expect the final SUV to take design cues from the Seven Concept. Kia Concept EV9 The Hyundai Seven counterpart isn't the only big, bold electric SUV at L.A. this year. Kia has its own take, and it's a modernized version of the traditional boxy utility vehicle called the Concept EV9. It also previews one of the next production electric cars for the brand, which should look right at home next to things like the Telluride. 2023 Kia Sportage HEV As promised, the 2023 Kia Sportage HEV has been revealed. The hybrid powertrain makes the compact SUV the most powerful version available, and it goes on sale next year. The engine is a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder paired with a 44-kW electric motor. Total output is 226 horsepower. The company didn't give a torque number, but it should basically be the same as the Sorento HEV that has the same basic powertrain: 258 pound-feet. Those numbers are a healthy step up from the 187 horsepower of the base 2.5-liter engine. 2022 Range Rover If you noticed how extra smooth and suave the new Range Rover looked during its recent reveal, Autoblog's James Riswick got a design tour that revealed some of the technological secrets to its success. "Less is more" is harder to achieve than it looks. Fisker Ocean Fisker has brought the new Ocean EV to the L.A. Auto Show, with a public preview at Manhattan Beach and a presence at the show itself. You can watch the public show reveal above, and see more shots from the show floor below. Fisker says the Ocean will start at $37,499 before incentives. That entry model would be the Sport trim with a single, 275-horsepower motor driving the front wheels and 250 miles of estimated range. It also has a 0-60 time of 6.9 seconds. 2023 Toyota bZ4X This is the 2023 Toyota bZ4X, due to hit U.S.
