1993 Mazda Rx-7 R1 Coupe 2-door 1.3l on 2040-cars
Scranton, Pennsylvania, United States
I am selling my BlACK 1993 Mazda RX7, its the R1, if you know about these cars the R1 is the lightweight version and very rare. They only made 638 R1 in Black. I also have a CMY R1 that's not for sale as I just put a motor in it and I have been driving it this summer. The black R1 pictured and described is unmodified since new. I owned it since 2006, bought it from my longtime friend who owned it a long time prior. I have put about 17k miles on it, always in summer months and have had no issues with it. The car runs good, shifts smoothly, turbos seem ok, power windows work ok, both mirrors are original and work. The exhaust is totally stock. So is the intake, turbos and intercooler, no blow off valves, no cat back, no extra gauges no extra add-ons no mods. Nothing has been touched under it even and its mechanicals appear to me to be all original and stock. I have not driven it in a year but I pulled it out of storage today and it started right up. Airbag light came on and has not shut off, I do not know why but maybe because battery was low it threw a fault. It has a black interior, seats are the right R1 in velour, correct aluminum hood. Stock original engine and rear strut reinforcement bars are on it. I think this is a good RX7 and its rarity is even better. I rarely see any other third gen cars. Whenever I stop it draws a crowd of guys who like it and know its rare and are always asking questions about it. It always gets a thumbs up in traffic. And its fast as balls if you want to run it hard. This one is best for the purist who can live with a few things it needs and fix its faults as he has time. I will list to the best of my knowledge the things that it needs and some history I know of it. If you want a flawless one its not for you. I had it painted couple years ago and my painted lost a few things for it, he did a decent job but got sick and couldn't finish it up. Its not going to win any major car shows but it looks pretty good for a daily driver. The windshield guy cracked the windshield when he was putting the seal on it and the molding itself for the windshield gasket is not there. So it needs a new w/s and a fresh seal. I never put the rear view mirror back on it as the windshield cracked and it is there and is included. You can see the crack in driver side by the lower dash area. Its traveled a few inches in last couple years. The Original Wheels are ok BUT one or two must be out of round or bent, maybe bent from our lousy roads in PA (can you say we need a new governor and Pa has lousy roads? Anyway it feels out of balance and there is a vibration in car at speed which I am certain is wheel balance issue or from a bent alloy. Driver door scuff molding is missing, driver upper trim on outside of door was lost, used ones on evil bay for about 70 bucks, I think you can still buy it new though from Mazda, the driver fender air vent is not there, they are usually on ebay for 40 bucks, and gas filler door I cracked putting gas in it, they are flimsy to say the least, I see one on evilbay for 80 bucks now and a new one is listed for around 112. Original hood and no old front accidents are apparent. Some of the interior trim needs to be fixed to fit better or tighter. The big plastic side panels in back have wear and missing broken snaps. There is no drivers door lid for storage, all of them I ever see seem to be broken, its missing the interior trim separator panel from rear storage bins to cargo area. When he painted it I had him strip most of the car to bare metal, we found a red roof on it and a talk with my friend revealed the car had a tree branch fall on it in his driveway and he put another used roof and hatch and both doors on the car. he was a very good metal man in his day and the roof fits nicely. But the interior trim doesn't fit perfect and may have be due to the cheap way they are made and fit with push in snaps. it might be easier to jut put a few countersunk screws in it to hold them better and more securely and forget it. I did take off one A post pillar once and looked to see why the wiring for the rear hatch is there but the dome light does not work. But I forget why I never fixed it. I never bothered to check the wiring further to the dome light and frankly don't care anyway if the dome light doesn't work. The headliner has a small tear in it. By gas filler there a small dent, passenger front fender has a parking lot scratch pretty deep. Non original Radio is loose in dash I don't know what up with that. The FM is working when it feels like it, but the Cd works fine. Power antenna was working last time I checked, the AC is cold and works. Car has spare and jack etc. Pic of speedo and car photos were taken TODAY. Spoilers are both correct and original for the R1 third gen....I think I have the RX7 letters and emblems for rear body and hood, I will have to check, if I have them they are yours, if not don't hold me to it. On the body side of issues to be fair in my description: He used a non R1 hatch which has a wiper when he put the used roof on, (the hatch he used was a touring one with a wiper). The body guys filled in the wiper hole but they forgot to remove the rear washer jet on top of hatch and fill it in. No big deal to me but hey I am trying to tell you what I know and see that you don't see. Both doors close ok, seams and lines look fine and its has never been an issue with me so I don't care it had a roof put on it. Plus the title is clean and so is carfax. What you don't see too good in pics are driver front fender has a couple scratches and scuffs. There is a small oil leak someplace and once in a while you can smell oil or see oil smoke from front so I assume some is leaking onto the exhaust. Its a black car and black shows everything, so yes you don't see any scratches scuffs bird stains rain drops in photos etc. But they are there. Ask any question by email or call me usa east coast before 8 PM 5708156504 Please NO TEXTING ME. If its a legit question I will answer it and post it if not I won't bother. Don't ask reserve, bid and be ready to buy it. Please DO NOT ASK ME TO TRADE ANYYHING INCLUDING CARS I DON'T NEED ANYMPORE OF I WOULD NOT SELL A RARE R1 Guys, if you don't have cash in hand don't bid I don't need the money and don't want to sound rude. I have a lot of cars including a CMY R1. As a Mazda guy I owned the first rx7 in my area in 79, i had a new GSL in 83, a new gsl-se in 84 and bought a new second gen turbo II in 87. I was in the biz for years and have owned hundreds of rx7, yes hundreds, so I know the cars pretty well and think its a good deal and a wise investment for the right guy. I am simply trimming my collection of cars and boats and real estate down, I really just don't have time to drive them or use most of them. Personally I think the R1s will be worth some long green down the road and that's why this one is worth spending a few bucks on and I would suggest to leave it stock. Car is in Scranton, Pa, title is in my name. GREEN Cash talks you know the drill. If you are out of area bid accordingly, its AS IS NO RETURNS NO CRYBABYS NO REMORE. Venue of sale is Lackawanna County, PA. By bidding you agree to the rules of sale venue and AS IS WHERE IS NO WARRANTY STATED NOR IMPLIED. ANY INFORMATION PROVIDED IS SOLEY TO ASSIST YOU INMAKING A REASONABLE ASSESSMENT OF THE CAR. I will assist anyway I can to help with transport, I am near the major Interstate 84 380 81 but I prefer you come see it in person and drive it home. |

So, just how different are the Fiat 124 Spider and Mazda MX-5 Miata?
Wed, Nov 18 2015"We leveraged a great platform." That's how Bob Broderdorf, Jr., Fiat's North American director, summarizes the creation of the 124 Spider. We all know Fiat's new roadster shares its underpinnings with the fourth-generation Mazda MX-5 Miata, but there are a lot of key differences to keep them separate in the eyes of consumers. Mazda may have engineered the platform, but Fiat added many of its own touches. Here, we'll take a closer look at the spec sheets of the two cars, and summarize the major differences between the Japanese and Italian roadsters. If you need a refresher, read our full First Drive of the 2016 MX-5 Miata, and glance at all the Fiat 124 Spider details in this post. Design Fiat Chrysler design lead Ralph Gilles is super excited about this car. "I think it's going to change lives," he told the assembled media at an event in Auburn Hills, MI, earlier this month. Yes, it's definitely exciting to add a small roadster to any lineup, especially one that uses such a proven platform. But we're not sure people are going to get all that jazzed about it from a design standpoint. You'll either love it or hate it, and we're kind of leaning toward the latter. Every single body panel is new, and the design is "100 percent Italian." There are a number of creases and angles throughout the exterior, with a squared-off rear end and rectangular taillamps. Fiat trusts you'll be able to spot the similarities between the new 124 Spider and the original, but we're not so sure. We can see a bit of the old car's grille on the new car's face, and the dual hood blisters are a nice throwback touch, but that's about it. Trust us when we say that this car looks way better in photos. In person, it really didn't wow us. Of course, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. One colleague told us his wife, a long-time Miata owner, hates the look of the new one but will absolutely adore the Fiat. Good for her, and good for Fiat. But based on design alone, we'll take the Mazda every single time. What about you? Dimensions When Broderdorf said Fiat leveraged the Miata's platform, that means the Italians took it as-is. The two cars ride on an identical, 90.9-inch wheelbase. The front and rear tracks lengths are the same, at 58.9 and 59.1 inches, respectively. But that's where the similarities end.
Red Bull RX-7 goes drift crazy on New Zealand's Crown Range
Tue, 07 May 2013For the first time ever, the Crown Range, New Zealand's highest paved road, was closed off for the drifting pleasure of one man. That man is Mad Mike Whiddett, and the machine he's piloting is a heavily modified Mazda RX-7 sponsored by the energy-rich crew from Red Bull and powered by a 750-horsepower quad-rotor engine. There will be smoke. Lots and lots of smoke.
Mad Mike hits speeds in excess of 140 miles per hour over the course of the road's six and a half miles, which boasts 47 individual corners at over 3,500 feet of elevation. Scroll down for all kinds of fire-belching, tire-squealing and smoke-inducing action. Or, as Mad Mike himself puts it, "A dream turned into reality."
2016 Mazda6 and CX-5 see gentle price hike
Thu, Feb 12 2015Mazda has modestly updated the Mazda6 and CX-5 for the 2016 model year, and the company just announced revised pricing for the pair. The vehicles cost a little more now, but buyers also get additional features and an improved look. When it comes to the 2016 Mazda6, the already attractive sedan wears a revised look up front with more chrome and a redesigned cabin with a new instrument layout and seven-inch infotainment system on most models. Mechanically, things carry over with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder making 184 horsepower and 185 pound-feet and either a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox depending on trim. The base Sport trim with a six-speed manual gearbox costs $305 more than it did in 2015, and starts at $21,495*, plus an $820 destination charge on all models. Upgrading to the automatic gearbox at $22,995 also adds the revised infotainment system and reverse camera. Prices top out at $30,195 for the Grand Touring, which is $300 more than last year. All of the other versions see a $100 year-over-year increase. LED headlights are standard on the Grand Touring, but they can be added to the Touring through the Touring Technology package for $1,675. The 2016 CX-5 sees light exterior upgrades and similar interior improvements as the Mazda6, including the improved infotainment system for some trims. Pricing rings up for $250 more than last year, except the all-wheel drive Sport trim at just an extra $50. The cheapest CX-5 is the front-wheel Sport with a manual gearbox and 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 155 hp and 150 lb-ft, and it costs $21,795. All other models combine a 2.5-liter four-cylinder with 184 hp and 185 lb-ft with a six-speed automatic. Prices go all the way up to $29,470 for a CX-5 Grand Touring with all-wheel drive. There's a new i-Activesense package for the Grand Touring for $1,500, as well, that adds safety sensors and radar cruise control, but it can only be combined with the Grand Touring Technology Package for $1,505 with navigation and LED headlights. 2016 Mazda6 Pricing Announced IRVINE, Calif. (February 9, 2015) – Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) today announced pricing for its refreshed 2016 Mazda6 midsize sedan lineup. The 2016 Mazda6 is available in three trim levels – Sport, Touring and Grand Touring – and is equipped with the SKYACTIV-G 2.5-liter gasoline engine. There are a number of enhancements for 2016 including bold changes to the shape of the instrument panel and floor console giving the interior a fresh new look.
