1990 Mazda Rx-7 Convertible on 2040-cars
Harrisville, Rhode Island, United States
I am going to try and sell my 1990 RX7 Convertible N/A 5 speed. The car
is overall in good shape, it has normal wear for being 23 years old, meaning really small dings or other marks here or there still. Still looks very sharp though, and the interior is very clean. The top has a really small tear on each side right after the doors where the top folds. The tears are not really noticeable and not really a problem because of where they are it does not let water or anything in. 117,819
miles. Never driven in winter, and there is no rust problem under the car.
The car can be started and run for testing, but it cannot be driven. The main issue is that the coolant system is over pressurized, so a little after it hits operating temp the coolant will be forced out the overflow tank. It does not over heat, but you can hear the coolant boil in the system. From what I think, exhaust gases are getting into the coolant. I am not really an expert and only really work on motorcycles, so I am out of my league working on a rotary engine. The upper rad hose, rad cap, thermostat, are all new. The compression on both rotors is good. The convertible top is in good condition, along with the top's motors, and everything else like windows and heat and air conditioning work as they should. I used to have an after market stereo in there so the stock one is in now but not connected up. It works, but the headrest speakers will have to be reconnected to the assembly. 5 speed shifts well, no slipping. Title is clear, though I cant seem to find it but I have the registration. If title is needed I can get a duplicate. Two other small problems are that the oil pressure gauge reads 0, but that is not the case. Probably needs a new sensor because I tried cleaning the wire. The trunk hydraulics that keep it open are going, so you need to hold the trunk open sometimes. It has after market mufflers (duel) and a custom pipe from the cat back. It is not loud, but it is a nice low refined sound. I was planning on having it fixed but am going to be moving out of state within a a year, so I do not have the money to fix it, and cant really take it with me. Looking for $2,000 obo. Any other questions just ask and I will try and answer. Thank You for looking. |

Junkyard Gem: 1989 Mazda MX-6 GT Turbo
Fri, Nov 18 2016The Mazda MX-6 is best-known in the United States as the sibling (or maybe first cousin) of the Ford Probe, which almost became the successor to the Fox Mustang. The MX-6 and Probe were well-engineered and very quick for the era, but never enjoyed great American-market sales success. Here's a rare first-generation MX-6 GT that I photographed last week in a Denver self-service yard. 145 turbocharged horsepower was pretty good for 1989, when a new Honda Prelude Si had 135 horses and the far more expensive BMW 325i ($24,650 for the 325i coupe versus $14,499 for the MX-6 GT Turbo) had 168. This one doesn't have the optional four-wheel steering, but it does have the three-way adjustable suspension. If you drove a turbocharged car in 1989, you needed a nine-band equalizer with analog sliders on the radio. It was the law. It's not rusty, but at 205,575 miles it's worn out. The Japanese-market version was known as the Capella C2, and it boasted some great TV commercials. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. As always, the US-market TV ads are less interesting than their Japanese counterparts. Mazda and Isuzu to collaborate on a new pickup truck
Mon, Jul 11 2016After decades, Mazda has finally untangled itself from its relationship with Ford. The last vestige of that partnership is the BT-50, a rebadged version of the global Ford Ranger pickup truck. Once the BT-50 ends production, Mazda has announced that it will collaborate with Isuzu to develop its next generation of pickup trucks. The BT-50 was co-developed with Ford's Australian division. In their current iteration, the BT-50 and its Ranger twin were never on sale in the United States. Mazda's last pickup in the US was the B-Series, itself also a rebadged version of the old Ford Ranger. Isuzu pulled out of the US passenger vehicle market in 2009, although it still sells commercial vehicles here. Isuzu, continuing a long and complicated relationship with General Motors, co-developed the diesel engine that currently powers the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon. In select markets, Isuzu sells a rebadged version of the Colorado as the D-Max. Details on the Mazda/Isuzu tie-up are scarce. A single press release simply says "Isuzu will produce next-generation pickup trucks for Mazda, based on Isuzu's pick-up truck model." This isn't the first truck collaboration between the two companies. Since 2004, Mazda has sold the Titan, a rebadged version of the Isuzu Elf commercial truck. The Elf is sold in the US as the Isuzu N-Series. Those in the US hoping for a new competitor in the midsize-truck segment shouldn't get their hopes up for the new truck. There are currently no plans to bring them here. There is hope, though, that Ford will bring the Ranger replacement stateside sometime in the next few years. First 2014 Mazda3 ad appears
Sat, 29 Jun 2013If we judge by your comments on our recent announcement post about the new Mazad3, you Autoblog readers approve, pretty wholeheartedly, about the redesign efforts happening over at Mazda. Pressed for an opinion, we'd be forced to admit that we find the new 3 quite fetching our own selves.
To add fuel to the fast-burning fire then, Mazda has gone ahead and dropped a 15-second pseudo commercial on YouTube, showing a very rendered Mazda3 in a very rendered driving environment. The short spot is really just slightly more dynamic than the images of the car, but there is a spot of mystery to it, as well.
Right at the start of the video, an interior shot of the car shows a transparent display screen of some kind, rising from the top of the 3's dash. An interesting choice, considering Mazda has bestowed an actual center-mounted display in on the hatchback's dash-top - albeit one that doesn't look like a clear piece of glass. Take a look below, and while you're there, check out a just-released official video of the Mazda3's reveal in New York.
