1988 Mazda Rx-7 Convertible Convertible 2-door 1.3l on 2040-cars
Independence, Missouri, United States
Up for sale is my 1988 RX7 Convertible It has roughly 75,500 miles on it with the original motor and transmission. This car has had many upgrades done to it and is a blast to drive! You're welcome to test drive it, but it'll be in the shop getting the brake master and clutch slave cylinders replaced this week. (also, I have 3 of the 4 center caps. Wheels came without them, bought 4, but package got busted in the mail and one was lost. You'll receive 3, spares are about $20 on eBay) Good: The convertible top WORKS (Switch was just replaced with a fresh rebuilt one! Common problem with the original switches!) A/C works great! Heater works great! All power windows roll down! Leather interior with headrest speakers! (unknown if they work) New battery New plug wires New spark plugs Fresh oil change New Brake Master Cylinder (part included) New Clutch Slave Cylinder (part included) No rust Only small dings and scratches, no major damage! Also includes a set of S5 tails! List of upgrades: Racing Beat exhaust header Full custom dual exhaust Koyorad radiator for increased cooling Tokico struts with lowering springs Steel braided brake lines Steel braided clutch lines Custom white anodized roll bar JDM brand steering wheel Short shifter Air intake Known issues: Radio turns on, but buttons don't function, will need replaced. Needs tires 'Bouncing' idle when cold. It's likely the TPS, doesn't affect driving or performance. Part is on the way, and will be installed before pickup. The paint is flaking off in the usual places. This is normal for the age and due to the fact that the hood and trunk are aluminum... and well, it's just hard to get paint to stay on aluminum. I prefer local pickup, but if you want it shipped, feel free to arrange it. Car is located in Independence Missouri. (Kansas City area) $500 Deposit due within 24hrs of auction end. Balance can be paid via paypal, or cash on pickup. No exceptions. If you have any questions, feel free to message me. AS IS - NO WARRANTY This

Mazda ad showing Facebook updates while driving criticized by Senate committee [w/video]
Sat, 08 Feb 2014Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Jay Rockefeller, D-WV, held an all-day summit on Thursday to discuss the dangers of using modern technology while driving, during which an ad that Mazda aired during the Super Bowl was used as an example of the worrisome future towards which we're headed. While seemingly innocuous at first glance, the ad, which can be seen below, shows a brief glimpse of a driver using the Mazda Connect infotainment system in a Mazda3 to check/update his Facebook page while driving down the road.
Officials from major communications companies like Samsung, Google and Apple attended the summit, as well as representatives from automakers including General Motors and Toyota. A representative from Mazda was not present despite the company's own currently available technology being used as the poster child for the issues being discussed.
According to Automotive News, Senator Rockefeller warned the automaker and communication execs on hand that he will propose legislation to regulate the use of technology while driving if they don't work together to implement their own standards more quickly. Michael Robinson, GM's vice president of sustainability and global regulatory affairs, argued that his company has had distracted driving guidelines in place for 15 years since the advent of its OnStar system, noting that the technology in question has also helped the automaker save lives through automatic crash detection and calls to 911.
Kiwi seniors accidentally lock themselves in Mazda3 for 13 hours, nearly die
Wed, Dec 17 2014It's an over-played trope that senior citizens are bad with technology. Its regular use as a comedic device, though, overshadows a more dire circumstance that comes when elderly citizens are paired with gizmos and gadgets they don't fully understand. A couple from New Zealand spent the night in their new, smart-key-equipped Mazda3 after thinking they'd locked themselves in, in what The Otago Daily Times called "a series of 'Murphy's Law' events." The two thought the car wouldn't function without the key fob, which had accidentally been left outside of the car, along with the owner's manual. That, along with the combination of stress, darkness and a lack of overall information about the car nearly killed Mollieanne and Brian Smith. After thinking they'd become trapped, the Smiths, 65 and 68, respectively, tried honking the horn to alert neighbors – it was Guy Fawkes Night, so the sound was drowned out by fireworks – and even took the Mazda's jack to a window in their attempt to escape. When they were discovered and freed 13 hours later, Mrs. Smith was unconscious and Mr. Smith was having trouble breathing, with emergency crews telling the couple another half hour in the car would have killed them. Mr. Smith later told The Otago Daily Times he was "very methodical," but couldn't figure out how to unlock the car. "Once I found out how simple it was to unlock it I kicked myself that I did not find the way out," the 68-year-old told The Times. "I had this mind-set that I did not have the transponder [so I could not get out]." Mazda New Zealand pointed out that is not the case. "It's not a design flaw with the car," Mazda New Zealand General Manager Glenn Harris told The Times. "What we have said to the [dealership] network is, with new technologies, don't forget to show customers how to use them in their entirety [and] how to override them. There is always a manual process to override them." Red Bull RX-7 goes drift crazy on New Zealand's Crown Range
Tue, 07 May 2013For the first time ever, the Crown Range, New Zealand's highest paved road, was closed off for the drifting pleasure of one man. That man is Mad Mike Whiddett, and the machine he's piloting is a heavily modified Mazda RX-7 sponsored by the energy-rich crew from Red Bull and powered by a 750-horsepower quad-rotor engine. There will be smoke. Lots and lots of smoke.
Mad Mike hits speeds in excess of 140 miles per hour over the course of the road's six and a half miles, which boasts 47 individual corners at over 3,500 feet of elevation. Scroll down for all kinds of fire-belching, tire-squealing and smoke-inducing action. Or, as Mad Mike himself puts it, "A dream turned into reality."
