Year:1983 Mileage:100000 Color: door handles have been removed
Location:

Helena, Montana, United States

Helena, Montana, United States

I purchased this RX-7 in 1986 and have enjoyed it very much.  I turned it into a dedicated Autocross car in 1990 and raced it until 1997.  I have had it in storage for several years and had the intention to do a 13B Turbo upgrade but have not been able to find the time to finish it.  The 12A motor is pretty tired and I would not consider it a running motor.  I purchased the 13B turbo and 5-speend transmission from a 1990 RX-7 in 2008.  The auction includes the car and any spares I have to go with it.  Please contact me with any questions or additional pictures.  Delivery is an option for a fee, enough to cover my expenses.  Reserve is far less than I have into the car.

Body:

Mazda factory race flares from the competition dept.
Custom Kevlar / glass front.
Glass hood and rear wing.
Windshield is plexiglass, would recommend replacing it if used anywhere other than an autocross.

.125 wall DOM tubing full cage.
(2) Corbeau race seats.  (seats are in quite bad condition and would need to be rebuilt to be used)
Small gauge panel with Auto Meter Phantom Tach, Oil Temp & Oil Pressure.
Doors have been gutted to save weight and recovered with aluminum.  (latched are still functional, however the exterior door handles have been removed.)
New carpet set in Grey (not installed)

Suspension:

Competition Front lower control arms with rod end bearing for camber adjustment.
Delrin bushings on lower tension rods.
1-1/8" Front sway bar with urethane bushings.
KYB five way adjustable front struts.
Shorter / stiffer springs F/R
KYB std gas shocks rear.
Racing beat 3/4" adjustable rear sway bar.
Competition pads with 4 wheel discs.
Brake system is braided stainless from master cylinder to all calipers.  Also includes a brake proportioning valve.

Driveline:

12A rotary  (considered not in running condition due to 17 years of storage.)
Mikuni 44PHH sidedraft carb.
Custom long primary header ending in a flowmaster comp muffler.
GSL rear end with limited slip differential.

13B Turbo and 5-speed trans from a 1990 donor car.  Included wiring harness and computer.
Racing Beat front motor mount.  Fits 13B into this chassis.
New Aluminum lightweight flywheel for 13B (installed with correct auto trans counterweight.)
New clutch & Pressure plate for 13B.

2015 Mazda2 spotted in Japanese magazine

Tue, 16 Jul 2013

The styling changes at Mazda are proceeding at a fairly quick tempo. The CX-5 was unveiled, followed by a refreshed CX-9, the excellent Mazda6, and most recently a new Mazda3. This all happened over the course of less than two years, which in the auto industry is like a long week.
Now the Mazda2 is getting its revamp. Thanks to a magazine scan from Japan, we now have our first look at the new sub-compact, called the Demio, in its home market. Mazda's familial front end has been fitted, and it doesn't look quite as suited to the smaller car. Lacking the long-hood look of the Mazda3 and Mazda6, the new styling looks overly rounded, almost bulbous from our angle. It's still attractive, but the shape is kind of off-putting compared to the chiseled faces of the 2's big brothers. We'll concede that the folded magazine page may have something to do with it, however.
The next-generation 2 should adhere to Mazda's Skyactiv philosophy, which means we can expect a highly efficient four-cylinder engine, although it's impossible to say if Mazda will do away with its smallest offering's one-engine strategy. Considering the Mazda2 will be riding on a shortened version of the CX-5's platform, we'd expect some degree of mechanical parts sharing, regardless of how much the larger platform needs trimmed. Perhaps a detuned version of the 2.0-liter, Skyactiv four-cylinder could be under the 2's hood?

Next Mazda MX-5 Miata to weigh a ton(ne), literally

Wed, 27 Nov 2013

Looking at recent spy shots of the fourth-generation Mazda Miata, it's obvious this sporty little roadster will grow in size compared to the current model, but it's also going on a diet. At the Tokyo Motor Show, Auto Motor und Sport sat down with Mazda executive Kiyoshi Fujiwara, who gave a little more insight into the Miata's redesign.
Fujiwara said that they're aiming for a curb weight of a tonne (metric ton), which is 1,000 kilograms or right around 2,200 pounds, for the next-generation Miata. This would make the roadster at least 300 pounds lighter than the current NC Miata, but still about 200 pounds heavier than the original NA.
There is no indication as to how Mazda will go about removing that much weight from the bigger car, but with as popular as the power retractable hard top (PHRT) model is on the current car, the new Miata may ditch this feature to lose its weight. Improving the power-to-weight ratio appears to be a key goal of the Mazda team, so we also wouldn't be surprised to see a more powerful engine underneath the longer hood.

Mazda RX-Vision Concept revives the rotary

Wed, Oct 28 2015

Mazda continues fighting to keep the rotary alive, and with the RX-Vision concept at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show, the company unveils its dream for the engine's revival in a curvaceous sports coupe. Before any fans burst with excitement at the prospect, Mazda only "hopes" to have this gorgeous shape available in showrooms someday, for now. The RX-Vision starts with the classic elements of a front-engine, rear-wheel drive sports coupe by combining a long, low hood, short rear deck, and a passenger compartment way at the back. From there, Mazda's stylists add the swooping touches of the brand's Kodo design language. The result looks thoroughly modern and still subtly evokes generations of the RX-7 in the sculpted fenders and flowing roofline. Under that shapely hood hides Mazda's next-generation rotary, which the company has dubbed the Skyactiv-R. Unfortunately, details about it are quite scarce at the moment, including the displacement or even the number of rotors the engine uses. Still, Mazda is abundantly clear that development of the mill is very much moving forward. Mazda's designers opt for a retro flair inside with the deeply dished steering wheel and gauges in three pods. The rest is simple and elegant with a minimalist, metal gearshift rising from the center console and leather straps for door pulls. Finishing things off is a clean mix of red and black upholstery with a little carbon fiber for contrast. Expect live shots from Tokyo soon to show how the RX-Vision looks under the lights. Related Video: Mazda Reveals Mazda RX-VISION Concept -- Powered by next-generation rotary engine SKYACTIV-R, represents Mazda's vision of the future -- HIROSHIMA, Japan—Mazda Motor Corporation unveiled the rotary-powered Mazda RX-VISION sports car concept at the Tokyo Motor Show*1 today. The rotary engine is a symbol of the company's "never-stop-challenging" spirit. RX-VISION represents a vision of the future that Mazda hopes to one day make into reality; a front-engine, rear-wheel drive sports car with exquisite, KODO design-based proportions only Mazda could envision, and powered by the next-generation SKYACTIV-R rotary engine. Rotary engines feature a unique construction, generating power through the rotational motion of a triangular rotor. Overcoming numerous technical difficulties, Mazda succeeded in commercializing the rotary engine, fitting it in the Cosmo Sport (known as Mazda 110S overseas) in 1967.
