1982 Custom Mazda Rx7, 80's Show Car on 2040-cars

Year:1982 Mileage:15416
Location:

Neshanic Station, New Jersey, United States

Neshanic Station, New Jersey, United States

Up for auction is a 1982 Mazda RX7 GSL.  After 31 years (yes, I’m the original owner ) of taking up space in my garage and hearing my wife complain, it’s time to find the RX7 a new home…  I purchased the car new in 1982, used it sparingly for about three years then decided I wanted to create a show car. After about a years’ time in putting it together, followed by sometime on the local circuit, the car has remained under wraps in my garage. The RX7 has been a garage queen all its life… It’s never seen snow and as of last 5 – 10 years only taken out of the garage every other week to keep the fluids flowing. With a little TLC this vehicle could get back to show quality, turned into a weekend warrior or full blown track car.

I’ll highlight some of things that were done to the car:

·         Purchased 5-1982 and has 15,416 mile on the car. Yes, that’s original miles on the car and the replace motor has just over 14,000 on it. The speedometer was sent out to Rotary Engineering for 130 MPH recalibration.

·         Car is in excellent condition for being 31 years old. No rust on

·         Motor- “Rotary Engineering’s Turbo Alternative” 13B  225HP Twin 36 DCD Carbs

·         High performance clutch and Flywheel

·         Body- Kent Racing Wide Body kit from Creative car products- Installed by Autotrix in NY

·         Rims- Epsilon 15/10’s and 15/8’s

·         Tires- 225-50-15F Dunlop’s Qualifiers (replaced 6 years ago) 265-50-15R BF Goodrich Comp TA’s

·         Custom Stereo System with built in Escort radar detector. Yes, it and 80’s car… Back then it was the best of the best.

·         Koni race strut and sway bars

·         Lamb’s wool seat covers installed when the car was new.

 What the car needs…

·         The combination switch will need to be replaced. No High beams.

·         Rear tires are 28 years old and in need of replacing.

·         Spider crack in paint on rear whale tail. See picture.

·         Interior dome light lens needs replacing

·         Needs a tune up and jets cleaned

·         Rear speakers may need replacing

·         My son’s bike fell over and hit the hood of the car. The small dent was repaired by a local body shop but it might need to be touched up to get back to show quality. The average eye won’t notice it.

·         AC does work, but I took the belt off of the compressor years ago to take advantage of power gains with the motor.

·         Car is in excellent condition for a vehicle 31 years old…

The car is being sold as is, where is with no warranty, expressed written or implied. I have done my best to disclose any known defects associated with the vehicle and will address any potential buyer’s requests prior to the close of this auction.

I will require a $500.00 non-refundable deposit within 24 hours of winning the auction. It will be the responsibility of the buyer to arrange for pick-up/delivery of the vehicle. Inspections can be performed prior to the auction close. Please don’t hesitate to ask questions. I reserve the right to end the auction early due to selling the vehicle locally. Good luck and happy bidding!

Mazda refurbishing this NFL running back's 22-year-old daily driver

Thu, 10 Oct 2013

I don't actually care for the Washington Redskins (which is a good thing, considering the start to their season this year), but I love their running back, Alfred Morris. Why? Well, to start with, Morris helped deliver a dominating 10-3 season for my fantasy football team last year after a flash of prescience saw me pick him up off the waiver wire in Week 1 (hit me up on Twitter if you need fantasy sports insight, guys, I'm sort of like the Ruxin of Autoblog).
Morris is also pretty endearing because of his loyalty to his car, Bentley. Hold up - that's not to say the running back has splashed out on a Continental GT or a Flying Spur. No, Morris gave his much-loved 1991 Mazda 626 the tongue-in-cheek name "Bentley" while he was still a student at Florida Atlantic. One 1,613-rushing-yard rookie season and a $2.2-million contract later, and Morris is still using his Mazda as his daily driver. It might be easy to assume that the young player is simply being really prudent with all of his newfound wealth, but the guy really just has a thing for his five-speed-manual 626.
And Mazda, of course, loves the story of Morris' affection. In an effort to keep his 626 running strong and looking good, the company's Washington D.C.-area dealers have agreed to refurbish Bentley back to its original showroom freshness. Rather than spoil the classic (?) lines of the 626, the Mazda folks are essentially restoring the car for Morris. The cracked dash will be swapped out for a factory replacement, the engine and transmission given a thorough going-over and the whole vehicle generally made as fresh as Will Smith circa 1991. Bentley is expected to be completed and rolling through the capitol city by October 15, and in the meantime, Morris has been driving around in a new 2014 Mazda6 loaner car.

A car writer's year in new vehicles [w/video]

Thu, Dec 18 2014

Christmas is only a week away. The New Year is just around the corner. As 2014 draws to a close, I'm not the only one taking stock of the year that's we're almost shut of. Depending on who you are or what you do, the end of the year can bring to mind tax bills, school semesters or scheduling dental appointments. For me, for the last eight or nine years, at least a small part of this transitory time is occupied with recalling the cars I've driven over the preceding 12 months. Since I started writing about and reviewing cars in 2006, I've done an uneven job of tracking every vehicle I've been in, each year. Last year I made a resolution to be better about it, and the result is a spreadsheet with model names, dates, notes and some basic facts and figures. Armed with this basic data and a yen for year-end stories, I figured it would be interesting to parse the figures and quantify my year in cars in a way I'd never done before. The results are, well, they're a little bizarre, honestly. And I think they'll affect how I approach this gig in 2015. {C} My tally for the year is 68 cars, as of this writing. Before the calendar flips to 2015 it'll be as high as 73. Let me give you a tiny bit of background about how automotive journalists typically get cars to test. There are basically two pools of vehicles I drive on a regular basis: media fleet vehicles and those available on "first drive" programs. The latter group is pretty self-explanatory. Journalists are gathered in one location (sometimes local, sometimes far-flung) with a new model(s), there's usually a day of driving, then we report back to you with our impressions. Media fleet vehicles are different. These are distributed to publications and individual journalists far and wide, and the test period goes from a few days to a week or more. Whereas first drives almost always result in a piece of review content, fleet loans only sometimes do. Other times they serve to give context about brands, segments, technology and the like, to editors and writers. So, adding up the loans I've had out of the press fleet and things I've driven at events, my tally for the year is 68 cars, as of this writing. Before the calendar flips to 2015, it'll be as high as 73. At one of the buff books like Car and Driver or Motor Trend, reviewers might rotate through five cars a week, or more. I know that number sounds high, but as best I can tell, it's pretty average for the full-time professionals in this business.

2014 Mazda6 i-Eloop to net 40 mpg hwy, 28 mpg city

Fri, 05 Jul 2013

Even before Mazda unveiled the 2014 Mazda6, it had introduced its innovative, non-hybrid i-Eloop (Intelligent Energy Loop) brake regeneration system. This technology converts kinetic energy into usable electricity using the alternator, a DC/DC converter and a capacitor mounted just behind the front fascia. During deceleration, the alternator captures energy that is then stored in the capacitor, which can later be used to directly power electric devices like climate control and audio systems. When i-Eloop power is used, it reduces the load on the engine and helps to conserve fuel.
Now available on the Mazda6, i-Eloop is only available on the $29,695 Grand Touring trim level as a part of the $2,080 GT Technology Package, meaning that buyers desiring i-Eloop will have to spend at least $31,775 (not including destination). The added price of this technology should be worth it for those looking for optimal fuel economy as the i-Eloop, combined with the package's active grille shutters, will bump the sedan's fuel economy numbers up to 28 miles per gallon city and 40 mpg highway - both are improvements of 2 mpg over the standard Mazda6 Grand Touring. The GT Technology Package also includes a Sport mode, lane departure warning, high beam control, radar cruise control and forward obstruction warning - the latter two technologies are currently offered in a $900 package that is being discontinued.
i-Eloop will eventually be offered on other Mazda products including the 2014 Mazda3. Scroll down for the official press release on the Mazda6's fuel-saving i-Eloop technology.
