Up for sale is my 1991 Mazda RX7 Turbo II that I used as a track car. As you can tell from the VIN, this was not originally a Turbo car, but was a 1991 N/A Coupe. The original Turbo donor car was wrecked, and this chassis was the recipient. Everything was swapped off the Turbo car onto this car. So the most important pieces everyone will ask about is the rear diff and the suspension, and yes, it is all S5 Turbo drive train, suspension, everything.
Here is what I have done to the car:
So, everyone always has a story to tell of why they are selling their RX7, here is mine. I took this car to the Harris Hill Raceway track days every once in a while when I lived in Texas. My wife who is in the Air Force got orders to North Bay Ontario Canada, so I had the car shipped (along with 3 of my other RX7's) to Pennsylvania where her parents live. On our way up here to Canada, we stayed in Pennsylvania for a couple of weeks, and I would take the car out on the mountain roads. The last day I drove it, I ran it out of gas, had my wife bring me a 5 gallon jug of gas on the side of the road, and drove it back to where we stored it. (it ran fine). After getting settled here in Canada, we went back down for Christmas, and while there, I started all the cars to let them run a bit, but this one gave me problems. It would start and idle, but as soon as you touch the throttle, it bogs and dies. I brought it up here with me to Canada to work on it, and as far as I have gotten with it is make sure the fuel pump and relays are working. I suspect that the fuel lines, fuel filter, or injectors have junk in them from letting the tank run empty. As my other project (Supercharged 13B powered 1989 GTUs) has taken precedence, I simply do not have the time or motivation to work on this one, as I don't have tracks around me to run it anyway. If you have any questions, please let me know. I can take pictures of whatever you need. It would only let me post 24 pictures, but I have pictures of the lights on, and I have a picture of the fuel pump, as well as pictures of all three VIN numbers that match (door, firewall, VIN plate) Title is a Texas title, and I have the import papers from when I brought it across the border. I have a video of it on the track spitting flames if anyone wants to see that. I can tow this to the Toronto area and everywhere in between there and North Bay. If shipped anywhere else in Canada, I can assist with loading. I am also going back down to Pennsylvania mid July, so I can take it down to PA and if you live in the states, you can estimate your shipping from there. |

2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata will rock 2.0L SkyActiv engine in US, 1.5L elsewhere
Wed, 01 Oct 2014Let the speculation finally end - we know what will power the next-generation 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata, and it's not turbocharged. The US model will get a SkyActiv 2.0-liter engine and six-speed manual, while models in the rest of the world have a 1.5-liter engine, confirming earlier rumors.
Unfortunately, Mazda isn't letting loose how much power either of these mills make just yet. For sake of comparison, the current SkyActiv 2.0 in the Mazda3 produces 155 horsepower and 150 pound-feet of torque, and the 1.5-liter in the UK (and elsewhere) has about 99 hp and 110 lb-ft of twist. However, the current Miata produces 167 hp and 140 lb-ft.
But fret not droptop fans. The company's brochure from the 2014 Paris Motor Show confirms, "all available drivetrains have been specially tuned for the all-new MX-5," which at least hints at the possibility of more performance. Also, even if the numbers remain untouched, the new Miata should feel even more sporting on the open road. That's because Mazda says the new model weighs in the neighborhood of 2,200 pounds; with that in mind, the 2016 car would boast around 14.19 pounds per horsepower versus 14.85 lb/hp in the present MX-5. Progress!
2016 April Fools' Day: Morgan digs at Tesla, Mini's scissor doors, more
Fri, Apr 1 2016Every year automakers go out of their way to come up with gags for April Fools' Day. Sometimes the jokes fall flat, but occasionally a company really nails it with an idea that we'd actually love to see. Rather than scouring the Web for all of these stunts, you can find some of our favorites right here. Morgan MOGrod The Morgan Motor Company's MOGrod is one of our favorite April Fools' jokes so far this year because it's a car we wish could be real. The company says on Twitter that the retro hot rod uses a 3.7-liter Ford V6, and there are already 250,000 preorders, which is a play on the huge number of reservations for the Tesla Model 3. Morgan took the joke even further by sketching a landspeed record version for the Bonneville Salt Flats. Mini Scissor Doors The people at Mini apparently have a lot of free time because the company has two gags this year. The first is the scissor door option. The idea cleverly plays on the myriad ways customers can customize their Mini, but this solution doesn't look like anyone could easily enter the car due to the way these doors open. Mini Hipster Hatch There's also the Hipster Mini, which is a much funnier idea. This fictional hatchback would be perfect for fashionable Millennials thanks to features like Instagram-filter windows and a fixed-gear drivetrain, which limits the top speed to 25 miles per hour. The interior uses stonewash denim upholstery and packs a twin-deck cassette player. Skoda Dog Umbrella People love dogs, and owners know that a wet canine can be a mess. Skoda is ready to tackle this problem with an umbrella for your mutt. Made from unobtainium, the gadget hides in the door when not in use, but when raindrops start falling, people can keep their pup dry. Skoda Snowman Skoda's Facebook page also teases us with a very cool vehicle. The Snowman is a 396-horsepower plug-in hybrid snow machine. With its tracks, the company's newest model would never have to worry about getting stuck in the winter. Opel Adam C Sure, electricity and hydrogen are cleaner forms of fuel than gasoline or diesel, but Opel has a way to make your car even more environmentally friendly – muscle power. Wind up the crank at the rear for 15 minutes, and the Opel Adam C is good for 125 miles. GM's European division also claims that owners get a great workout because a full winding session burns 400 calories. You wouldn't feel guilty about picking up that pizza after cranking up this hatchback.
2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata first engine shot revealed
Mon, 08 Sep 2014We've dug deep for just about every scrap of 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata info available out of the car's California reveal celebration, but powertrain particulars have been especially hard to come by. While we still don't have engine specifications, the folks over at Autoweek have scored a nice scoop - the first underhood photos of one of the display cars.
In the image above, the ND-generation Miata is clearly shown to be powered by a Skyactiv inline four-cylinder, as expected, but its displacement remains unclear. The engine is most likely either the 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G engine offered in low-end Mazda3 and CX-5 models or the 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G found in those same vehicles' upper trims. In those iterations, the 2.0-liter generates 155 horsepower and 154 pound-feet of torque, while the larger-displacement engine nets out at 184 hp and 185 lb-ft. There is no sign of a turbocharger, a feature rumored to be fitted to at least one test mule. There has also been previous rumors of a 1.5-liter Skyactiv engine, possibly for overseas markets.
The 2.0-liter strikes us as the most likely scenario, particularly as Mazda has worked diligently to save every gram in the new car, dropping a pledged 100 kilograms (220 pounds) over the current model, even while adding content. It's entirely possible that the alleged turbo car was, in fact, a mule for the Miata's Alfa Romeo sister car, which is expected to have a wholly different powertrain. Or it could simply be a second engine option for an eventual Mazdaspeed variant, perhaps.
