2003 Mazda Protege5 Base Hatchback 4-door 2.0l on 2040-cars
Dayton, Ohio, United States
The car comes with a lot of extras, but I am willing to negotiate if you don't want certain things. This car has been a daily driver all its life, so it has normal signs of wear and tear. It will make a good, functional, and reliable daily driver for years to come. It is also a really fun car to drive and will offer plenty of enjoyment along with the practicability of a hatchback and great gas mileage.
The car has 131,xxx miles and runs perfect. I drove it out to California and back last year with zero issues and would do it again. It has a cold air intake, OBX racing header, Yakima 2 bike rack, short throw shifter, lowering springs, 17" Enkei wheels with Yokohama s-drive 215's (about 10,000 mostly highway miles on tires). It also includes the stock wheels with snow tires installed, one extra pirelli snow tire, and a mazdaspeed muffler (not installed because I do a lot of highway driving and didn't want the extra noise). I did the timing belt, water pump, and spark plugs 10k miles ago. Calipers/rotor/pads/front spindles replaced in the summer of 2011 (about 30k miles ago). New rear strut mounts installed last week. New passenger rear wheel hub/bearing installed today. This is an Ohio car that has been a year-round daily driver, so it does have normal Mazda fender rust issues and a other rust spots starting to form on the rockers and hatch. The rubber bushing on the passenger motor mound is cracking and will need to be replaced. Blue Book value in 'Fair' condition is $3750 and that is all stock no extras. |

2014 Mazda6 to start at $20,880*
Wed, 19 Dec 2012We got our very first taste of the impressive 2014 Mazda6 back in October, and had more than a few good things to say about the midsizer. One piece of information that was conspicuous by its absence, however, was a sticker price.
Now, with zero pomp and circumstance (not even a press release as of this writing), Mazda has dropped what looks to be official pricing for the 6 on its consumer website.
$20,880 is the asking price for the base Mazda6 Sport with a manual transmission (plus $795 worth of destination charges, for a total of $21,675). Alaska residents will need to cough up $840 for destination. The loaded-up Mazda6 Grand Touring shown on the site will set you back a total of $30,290 (MSRP of $29,495), but it isn't clear if that's the starting price of the Grand Touring trim. Mazda is taking orders for the new 6 right now, and the cars will be available on January 2, 2013.
Mazda6 diesel engine delayed over low performance, still coming
Mon, Dec 1 2014Oh Mazda... we had many hopes for the promised diesel four-cylinder in the Mazda6, but those have remained largely unfulfilled, as the oil-burning powerplant has failed to appear on dealer lots following its 2012 LA Auto Show announcement. Despite engineering issues that forced the company to announce that the program was delayed back in September 2013, Mazda remains adamant that the 2.2-liter Skyactiv-D is still coming to our shores. "We're still very much committed to diesel," Mazda's North American CEO, Jim O'Sullivan, told Automotive News. "We are still working on getting the performance aspects up to where we want them, and we do have a plan – an engineering road map – to get it done." According to AN, Mazda's initial plan with the 2.2-liter diesel was to build an engine so clean it could get by without an aftertreatment system, which generally accounts for the price premium of diesel engines versus their gas counterparts. The new system has come with performance issues, though, necessitating the delays. "If [we were] a commodity brand and didn't care about that, it would be on the market right now," O'Sullivan told AN. "But I know the people were expecting something from us, expecting certain drive characteristics and performance, and I didn't want to disappoint them." While O'Sullivan's defense of the diesel Mazda is admirable, the exec stops short of giving us an indication of when the new engine will finally arrive.
Bauer Catfish is a Miata-based trackstar in the making [w/videos]
Tue, 25 Jun 2013We're not trying to make a joke here. The creation you see above really is called the Bauer Catfish, and while the name is about as attractive as your average bottom feeder, the car itself is built on a sexy notion. Take the mechanical bits of one 1990-2005 Mazda MX-5 Miata, add in a tube chassis for as little weight as possible, complete with some custom body work and go forth. Bauer says the finished product weighs in at just 1,550 pounds, and the company will be happy to pull the stock four-cylinder to drop in a healthy General Motors LS V8.
The pre-production prototype shown above competed in last year's 25 Hours of Thunderhill, finished the race and earned a spot on the podium in the "anything goes for sports racers" ESR class. Very cool.
If you're looking for a dedicated track car, it may not get any better than this for the money. Expect to pay around $13,900 depending on options, plus the cost of your donor Miata. That's a good sight cheaper than a used Chevy Corvette Z06 and likely to be quite a bit more fun. After you're done watching it in action in the brief videos below, check it out over at Bauer Ltd.
