I am reluctantly selling my 2011 Mazda MX-5 Special Edition PRHT. This car is in near mint condition, and the new owner will be getting $3,000 worth of aftermarket goodies. Kelley Blue Book value is $26,000.
I am the third owner of the car. The original owner drove it for a short while before trading it in for something bigger. The second owner sold it to me with 7,200 miles on it, and he sold it to buy a touring motorcycle. I have had the car since February '12 and the car now registers 11,800 miles and counting. I have driven a '93 Miata for the past 15 years, and I bought this car as a replacement. One thing led to another and I ended up restoring the '93, investing much more money than I had originally planned. After lots of agonizing, I have decided that it is not financially viable to keep both cars. This is my only reason for selling it. I will probably regret it.
This car is awesome. Only 750 special edition units were produced. It is fully loaded......Power Retractable Hard Top (PRHT), Premium Package (Bluetooth, Satellite Radio, Xenon Headlights, Key-less entry/start, Electronic Stability Control), Suspension Package (Bilstein Shocks, Limited Slip Differential, Sport Suspension), Leather Wrapped steering wheel/parking brake handle, Gray Leather seats, Gray door trim, Chrome air vents/instrument cluster surrounds. Sparkling Black Mica paint is gorgeous and sexy.
6-Speed manual transmission shifts smooth as silk. New Mobil 1 synthetic oil changed in last 200 miles. Bumper to bumper Mazda factory warranty through July 2014.
$3k extras include.......3M Clear Bra paint protection ($750), Ziebart window tinting ($250), Magnaflow sport exhaust ($500), Dynamat noise reducer under hood and in doors ($500), Michelin Primacy MXM4 tires ($700), Zunsport front grill cover ($160), Rho Plate license plate mount ($60), Craven Speed Stubby antenna ($30), DIY lumbar support ($40), Voodoo engraved gear shift knob ($60).
No dings or dents. The exterior paint is immaculate - protected by 3M Clear Bra and regular hand washes/waxes. Interior is flawless. Leather seats regularly cleaned and conditioned.

From Maseratis to rental cars | Autoblog Podcast #511
Fri, Apr 7 2017On this week's podcast, Mike Austin and David Gluckman are in a huddle room (again), because the studio was already taken (again). We talk about the all-wheel-drive Dodge Challenger GT (again), as well as the Jeep Wrangler, Maserati Levante, Miata RF (again), and then David waxes poetic on mediocre rental cars (or similar). The episode wraps up with the traditional doling out of Spend My Money buying advice, with some input from an S2000 owner on advice discussed last time. The rundown is below. Remember, if you have a car-related question you'd like us to answer or you want buying advice of your very own, send a message or a voice memo to podcast at autoblog dot com. (If you record audio of a question with your phone and get it to us, you could hear your very own voice on the podcast. Neat, right?) And if you have other questions or comments, please send those too. Mazda names new North American chief
Tue, Dec 22 2015Mazda has announced today the appointment of a new president and CEO of its North American operations. Jim O'Sullivan, who has been running the office for 13 years, is now leaving the company. In his place the head office has appointed veteran manager Masahiro Moro, and as you can see, he could not be more thrilled with the appointment. A 55-year-old native of Kyoto, Moro has been with Mazda since 1983. One of the company's managing executive officers, Moro currently heads up its global sales and marketing division. He also previously served as vice president of marketing and of product planning for Mazda Motor Europe, and as director of the company's Australian operations. He'll now be relocating with his wife and family to Southern California to take over the North American division based out of Irvine, effective January 1. His predecessor Jim O'Sullivan has held the office since 2003, also ranked as one of the Japanese automaker's managing executive officers. The Detroit native previously worked at Ford, where he started his career in 1976. "I have been very lucky that the car business has afforded me so many incredible experiences, and taught me so much. However, now is the right time for me to retire from Mazda," said the 40-year industry veteran of his departure from the company in the statement below. "I don't know how the next chapter in my life will read, but it's time for me to spend time with my wonderful wife, my children and my grandchildren. I've travelled the world for nearly 40 years, who knows what the future holds?" Related Video: Masahiro Moro Named President, Mazda North American Operations - Jim O'Sullivan, Current President, to Retire after 13 Years Leading the Company - IRVINE, Calif., Dec. 21, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) today announced the appointment of Masahiro Moro to the position of President and CEO, MNAO. Moro, a Managing Executive Officer of Mazda Motor Corporation, will take over from Jim O'Sullivan, the company's long-serving outgoing president, who will be retiring from the company. The changes were announced today to company employees, and will be effective January 1, 2016. O'Sullivan joined MNAO as President and CEO in 2003, and also held the title of Managing Executive Officer of Mazda Motor Corporation.
Mazda engineers urging execs for more RWD models
Wed, 02 Oct 2013According to Edmunds, Mazda engineers are pressuring the company to create more rear-wheel-drive models, in an effort to better differentiate itself from its rivals. This push is reportedly coming from middle and senior engineers within the company, and these folks at Mazda believe this rear-drive strategy would allow the automaker to produce more distinctive, fun to drive cars. Mazda discontinued the rear-drive (and rotary-engined) RX-8 a few years ago, leaving the MX-5 Miata as the company's only RWD offering.
As enthusiasts, we're fully on board with Mazda offering more rear-drive cars, but unsurprisingly, the company's top management isn't exactly keen on the idea - and with good reason. First and foremost, the cost associated with redesigning fresh architecture for new models would be very high, and considering the fact that Mazda hasn't exactly been raking in the dough lately, an expensive new venture like this doesn't make a whole lot of sense. What's more, Mazda's latest front-drive models - the Mazda3, Mazda6 and CX-5 - have been very well-received, and are helping the company gain sales momentum.
But that doesn't mean there aren't other options. Edmunds reminds us that Mazda is already partnering with Alfa Romeo on the next-generation Miata, and if this collaboration is successful, perhaps the relationship could bear additional fruit. After all, Alfa Romeo is said to be working on returning to its rear-wheel-drive roots, so Mazda's engineers might be able to make a case for more RWD goodness after all.
