You are considering the purchase of a 2001 MIATA .. silver with tan top and tan leather interior and a 6 speed short throw gearbox. I am a senior original owner, who grew up learning to care for his automobile and the importance of regular scheduled service and routine oil and fluid changes. This Miata has been the most formidable car I have owned and driven in over 50 years of driving! Yes, it has reasonable wear, some scratches and dings here and there but it has NEVER been flooded, smoked-in and certainly not even been in a fender-bender. There are no stories, no problems and all things work as they should. I live near the Jersey Shore and except for the wheel rims, which show that fact, this is a beautiful running and looking sports car! 13 years ago when I purchased my Miata, my life was different. Today I have grand-children and regrettably must trade in my precious roadster for a more conventional vehicle. All keys, manuals, original documents including the window sticker and service records are included in this sale. With the help of Kelley Blue Book and Edmunds, I have arrived at a fair market "BUY IT NOW" price but I will also consider reasonable offers if the completion of the sale can occur without a hitch. I encourage you to see the car, drive it, even let your mechanic look at it. Then make your highest and best offer and if it is reasonable, I will work with you to complete the sale. PAYPAL is for the $500 DEPOSIT ONLY. I will NOT accept pay-pal for the balance. This is to be paid in CASH or CERTIFIED CHECK at the time of pick up and title transfer. I would prefer completing the sale within 10 days of receiving your deposit. I also prefer local pick up but would consider driving the car a reasonable distance for $1.00 a mile round trip plus tolls. This is an "AS-IS" sale. I have done my best to describe my Miata as genuinely as possible and have included many pictures, so there are no warranties or guarantees. |

Consumer Reports says infotainment systems 'growing first-year reliability plague'
Mon, 27 Oct 2014The Consumer Reports Annual Auto Reliability Survey (right) is out, and the top two spots look much the same as last year's list with Lexus and Toyota in first and second place, respectively. However, there are some major shakeups for 2014, with Acura plunging eight spots from third in 2013 to 11th this year, and Mazda replaces it on the lowest step of the podium. Honda and Audi round out the top five. This year's list includes six Japanese brands in the top 10, two Europeans, one America and one Korean.
Acura isn't the only one taking a tumble, though. Infiniti is the biggest loser this year by dropping 14 spots to 20th place. Other big losses come from Mercedes-Benz with an 11-place fall to 24th, and GMC, which declines 10 positions to 19th.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, it's not traditional mechanical bugs hauling down these automaker's reliability scores. Instead, pesky problems with infotainment systems are taking a series toll on the rankings. According to Consumer Reports, complaints about "in-car electronics" were the most grumbled about element in new cars. Problem areas included things like unresponsive touchscreens, issues pairing phones and multi-use controllers that refused to work right.
Mazda engineer wants new rotary to be turbocharged
Fri, Feb 5 2016Hope springs eternal for Mazda to revive the high-revving Wankel engine for a new sports car, and the company keeps feeding that thirst with hints that it could happen. To make the possibility even more tantalizing, Mazda drivetrain and powertrain assistant manager Tetsushi Marutani tells Motoring that he wants the updated mill to pack a turbocharger. "Personally, I think that a rotary with some turbo or compressor would be good," Marutani said to Motoring. "Because a rotary, in my opinion, they require more [torque at] low speed, low down torque. So if we have some small compressor or turbo it would help." Mazda hasn't sold a rotary-powered model since the RX-8 and hasn't had a turbocharged one since the third-generation RX-7. However, the recent RX-Vision concept (above) at least hinted at a possible Wankel revival, and Mazda officials confirmed that its engineers continued to develop the engine since the RX-8's demise. The RX-Vision used a next-gen rotary called the Skyactiv-R, but Mazda didn't officially confirm any details about it. Rumors suggested the engine had a two-rotor layout with a total displacement of 1.6 liters. A two-stage electric turbo and hybrid powertrain would allegedly boost the total output of around 450 horsepower. The electric assistance could also counter the Wankel's lack of torque at low revs and poor fuel economy. Those rumored specs sound fantastic, but we still take the rotary's return with a grain of salt. Mazda CEO Masamichi Kogai is adamant that it's not worth the company's limited resources to develop a niche sports coupe instead of better selling vehicles. Related Video:
Mazda and Lexus crowned with KBB 5-Year Cost To Own awards
Tue, 12 Feb 2013We report on a lot of awards, some of which are given out based on more solid criteria than others. This one, the Kelley Blue Book 5-Year Cost to Own awards, seems like one that new car shoppers should pay attention to.
The cost of a car goes far beyond what you pay for the actual metal, leather and rubber at the point of purchase. Fuel, insurance, maintenance and repair costs, and the cost of fees from the state and financing will all weigh on your wallet while you own the car. That's not even taking into account the biggest cost: depreciation, or the amount of money you lose based on what your car is worth years from now versus the day you bought it.
KBB tracks these sorts of things, and they've compiled a list of winners for 2013 models. On the brand level, Mazda and Lexus earn the 5-Year Cost to Own award for having the lowest overall projected five-year totals (though, curiously, we note that Mazda and Lexus each had only one segment winner). There are lots of winners for all the various segments, so we'll just pick out a few surprising ones to share and you can view the rest here.
