1994 Mazda Miata Convertible 2-door 1.8l ---no Reserve--- on 2040-cars

There is no reserve.  Do not worry about your valuable attention being wasted, the auction will not be ended early.  At the end of this listing, someone, possibly you, will be happier by a factor of one Miata.

Mechanical:  The engine starts easily with no smoke, rattles, or ticks.  It runs smoothly from idle to redline, and has solid oil pressure at all times.  I have always used the appropriate Mobil1 in the crankcase, transmission, and differential.  The ignition consumables (plugs & wires) have about 3,000 miles on them, and are oem NGK parts.  The injectors are a stock set from a 1999 Miata, and have been matched and flow tested.  This car dyno'd just a little more than a hundred horsepower to the tires, which is consistent with a healthy engine.  It is equipped with the Torsen Limited-Slip differential, which works perfectly and quietly.  The only modification to the drivetrain is a stainless-steel Borla cat-back exhaust, which not only sounds great, but weighs about half as much as the factory setup.  The A/C system worked fine, but I realized this was a convertible, so I removed what I considered 30lbs of dead weight.  I will include at no additional charge, a Goodyear timing belt component kit and OEM water pump.

Suspension:  Within the last 1000 miles I have installed a Flyin' Miata's V-Maxx Adjustable Coilover/Strut setup.  It also has a set of their adjustable sway bars, with adjustable end links.

Brakes:  5000 miles ago I replaced all four calipers, all four rotors, all the pads, and all the fluid.

Electrical:  12 months ago I installed a 500cca Lithium-Ion battery, that weighs 3 lbs.  The Stereo system is terrific.  It has a "Heavy-Duty" series Jensen head unit, meaning it is moisture and dirt resistant, and can be read easily in direct sunlight.  There are USB and mini-jack inputs on the front of the CD player.  I removed the interior of the car and re-wired the door speakers directly to a 75w-rms/channel amplifier in the trunk.  The door speakers are just the nicest set of Polk 6.5" separates you can find.  There is no distortion, even at surprisingly high volume.

Exterior:  The body is a mixed bag.  I keep it garaged at all times.  There has never been any rust.  All of the body panels are original, and all the paint is original, and I wax it often.  As you may know, the hood is aluminum.  It has some hail dings in it that the rest of the car doesn't have, due to the softer metal.  On the passenger side there is some damage that I have tried to highlight in pictures.  The plastic rear panel that goes around the tail lights has two cracks, also seen in the pictures.  The front fascia has a crack on the passenger side, I took pictures of that too.  The fabric on the convertible top is better than nothing, but basically shot.

Interior:  Very clean.  No odors.  No stains.  No burns.  I replaced the plastic bezel surrounding the gauge cluster with a new OEM piece, since they apparently crack and rattle.  That shifter is a genuine MOMO knob that fits tightly to the stock shaft.  The steering wheel is a very nice NOS piece I found three years ago, as the leather on the original one was cracking.  The only bad news is that when I installed the aftermarket tweeters in the doors, the vinyl on the door cards split on one side, illustrated in the pictures.  The drivers window regulator requires significantly more effort than the passenger one, not sure what's going on there.  There is a four inch long crack in the windshield down close by the dash.  It's been there three years and hasn't spread at all.  Frankly, I kind of forgot it's there.

Rolling Stock: If I have to explain why these are awesome, this may not be the car for you.   The wheels and tires have ~500 miles on them.  They are genuine ATS 15" Cup wheels, wrapped in 225-width BFGoodrich Rival tires.  They do not rub under any circumstances.

The auction winner will be entitled to purchase some additional goodies at very attractive prices
1) Flyin' Miata Butterfly Brace and Frame rail kit & strut tower brace signed by Keith Tanner.  $600
2) Flyin' Miata coolant reroute kit.  $200
3.)Stock 14" Aluminum wheels this car was delivered from the factory with $75

Ask all the questions you want.  If your question is dumb, or I answered it already in the description, I reserve the right to respond sarcastically.  I don't want to sell this car at all, so at least grant me that.
There will be no surprises.   I have been selling on ebay for over a decade, including other vehicles.  I'm willing to help with shipping, or if you want to fly-&-drive.  Don't be the least bit concerned about making it home.  This car will do it.

I posted some more photos on my face book page:
Search "The Vehicle Rescue", and you'll find a crap ton of pictures in the album entitled "Sleepy".

Mazda names new North American chief

Tue, Dec 22 2015

Mazda has announced today the appointment of a new president and CEO of its North American operations. Jim O'Sullivan, who has been running the office for 13 years, is now leaving the company. In his place the head office has appointed veteran manager Masahiro Moro, and as you can see, he could not be more thrilled with the appointment. A 55-year-old native of Kyoto, Moro has been with Mazda since 1983. One of the company's managing executive officers, Moro currently heads up its global sales and marketing division. He also previously served as vice president of marketing and of product planning for Mazda Motor Europe, and as director of the company's Australian operations. He'll now be relocating with his wife and family to Southern California to take over the North American division based out of Irvine, effective January 1. His predecessor Jim O'Sullivan has held the office since 2003, also ranked as one of the Japanese automaker's managing executive officers. The Detroit native previously worked at Ford, where he started his career in 1976. "I have been very lucky that the car business has afforded me so many incredible experiences, and taught me so much. However, now is the right time for me to retire from Mazda," said the 40-year industry veteran of his departure from the company in the statement below. "I don't know how the next chapter in my life will read, but it's time for me to spend time with my wonderful wife, my children and my grandchildren. I've travelled the world for nearly 40 years, who knows what the future holds?" 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata will rock 2.0L SkyActiv engine in US, 1.5L elsewhere

Wed, 01 Oct 2014

Let the speculation finally end - we know what will power the next-generation 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata, and it's not turbocharged. The US model will get a SkyActiv 2.0-liter engine and six-speed manual, while models in the rest of the world have a 1.5-liter engine, confirming earlier rumors.
Unfortunately, Mazda isn't letting loose how much power either of these mills make just yet. For sake of comparison, the current SkyActiv 2.0 in the Mazda3 produces 155 horsepower and 150 pound-feet of torque, and the 1.5-liter in the UK (and elsewhere) has about 99 hp and 110 lb-ft of twist. However, the current Miata produces 167 hp and 140 lb-ft.
But fret not droptop fans. The company's brochure from the 2014 Paris Motor Show confirms, "all available drivetrains have been specially tuned for the all-new MX-5," which at least hints at the possibility of more performance. Also, even if the numbers remain untouched, the new Miata should feel even more sporting on the open road. That's because Mazda says the new model weighs in the neighborhood of 2,200 pounds; with that in mind, the 2016 car would boast around 14.19 pounds per horsepower versus 14.85 lb/hp in the present MX-5. Progress!

Five automakers now being investigated by NHTSA for airbag woes

Thu, 12 Jun 2014

It appears that Toyota's renotification to owners of recalled vehicles from last year is just the tip of the iceberg for what could potentially be a much larger industry-wide recall. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is opening a preliminary evaluation investigation into roughly 1.1 million vehicles from Chrysler, Honda, Mazda, Nissan, Toyota and parts supplier Takata regarding faulty airbag inflators in several models.
NHTSA has received six reports - three directly, two from Takata and one from Toyota - of vehicles with ruptured airbag inflators from 2002-2006, which resulted in three injuries. So far, all six incidents have occurred in high humidity areas like Florida and Puerto Rico. According to Toyota's latest recall announcement, the inflators may have an improper propellant that could cause it to rupture in a crash and the bag to deploy abnormally.
This new investigation follows a previous recall from April 2013 of about 3.4 million vehicles worldwide for the airbag inflators from Takata. As Autoblog reported, Toyota jumpstarted the new situation when it found that the original list of serial numbers for the faulty part was incomplete and discovered more cars in need of replacement. Honda and Nissan told us that they were investigating whether further models would need called in again as well. Mazda told Autoblog: "Regarding the current Takata situation, we're working closely with NHTSA and investigating the situation, but nothing else to report at this time." Chrysler Group responded to us with the statement: "Chrysler Group engineers are conducting the appropriate analysis. The Company will cooperate fully with the National Highway Traffic Administration."
