Mazda halts sales of CX-5 due to fire risk in crashes

The Basics: Mazda will recall 264,463 examples of the 2014-2016 Mazda CX-5 in the US. The Problem: The fuel filler pipe can rupture in a rear collision. This could cause a fuel leak, which is a fire risk. Injuries/Deaths: None reported. There are also no reports of fires. The Fix: Mazda has not yet specified the repair for the problem. On all 2014-2016 MY CX-5 vehicles, the fuel filler pipe could rupture during a rear collision, and could potentially cause fuel leakage. Approximately 264,463 vehicles are affected in the U.S. There are no reports of accidents or injuries occurring in the subject vehicles as a result of this condition. If a customer has concerns about driving their vehicle before the repair is available, dealers will offer a free loaner, demo, or rental vehicle. Data from Insurify shows which models have the most accident-prone drivers behind the wheel. It also shows the proportion of the drivers of said vehicles with an at-fault accident on record in the past seven years, based on Insurify’s analysis of over 4 million car insurance applications. For reference, the national average is 10.78%, and each of these vehiclesÂ’ drivers represent a statistically significant increase over that. Mazda CX-3 The Mazda CX-3, which is discontinued for the 2022 model year, sees the accident-prone making up 14.9% of its drivers. 6. Infiniti Q60 The second and final luxury car on this list has more accident-prone drivers than average, at 14.93%. 5. Subaru Impreza The first of two Subarus on this list has 15.1% of drivers with recent accidents on record. 4. Hyundai Genesis Coupe The Genesis Coupe was only on the market for a brief span before it was discontinued and Genesis spun off into its own luxury brand. That said, it too beats the national average for accidents, at 15.29%. 3. Subaru WRX Despite its standard all-wheel drive, the boy-racer WRX has 15.44% of drivers with a prior accident in the last seven years. 2. Mazda3, CX-5 earn IIHS Top Safety Picks

Mazda technologies like SkyActiv-Body and SkyActiv-Chassis, plus ultra-high-tensile steel, six airbags, "crusable" brake and accelerator pedal assembly and collapsible steering column have helped the 2013 Mazda3 and 2014 Mazda CX-5 win Top Safety Pick laurels from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). It's the second year in a row for the Mazda3.
The accolade is earned by receiving "Good" marks for frontal moderate overlap crashes, side and rear impact crashes, and tests of roof strength. Remember, the small overlap test that the IIHS commenced in August 2012 has lately tripped up some makers who have excellent safety reputations.
