Black 2009 Rx8 R3 With 75k Mostly Highway Miles Mechanically Perfect!!! on 2040-cars
Hello Ebayers,
Up for sale is my 2009 Rx-8 R3 which I have loved every minute of owning. The car has been fantastic to drive everyday, and even though I have put some miles on it over the past 3 years it has never ever let me down. Most of the miles are highway as I did commute from New Orleans to school in Baton Rouge 3 days a week, drilling in the military in Hammond, and I was working in St. Charles. I would take this car anywhere! I have driven it to North Carolina and back twice. Now down to the good stuff. The R3 version was introduced for the 2009 year model. The R3 package added slightly improved suspension over the base model by adding Bilstein shock absorbers and a foam filled front crossmember to improve rigidity. The R3 also came with 19-inch BBS-forged aluminum-alloy wheels and high performance tires. On the exterior, the R3 had a different, lower front bumper sporting a splitter, lower side sills, and a standard rear spoiler. There is a pair of special Recaro seats up front, along with the same 300-watt Bose audio system, Bluetooth, and Mazda advanced keyless entry and start system. The car does have an upgraded sound system now with a touch screen Pioneer DVD player in dash and new speakers in all the doors (these are amped and sound really nice). It also have a pair of subs in the truck which are in a custom fitted box to leave room. This was done by the previous owner (a helicopter mechanic who took great car of the vehicle), and originally I planned on removing the subs(which is easy), but after how clean the sound was I couldn't bring myself to remove anything. Speaking of the previous owner, I bought the car with 30k miles in 2011. The car was from Hammond La so it has never seen any snow and completely rust free. I am the second owner. Besides the sound being upgraded the only thing that has been changed from stock is a set of mazdatrix stainless braided brake lines were added for a stiffer brake pedal. When doing this I went with Brembo high temp brake fluid and flushed all the lines. I just recently put on a new set of Toyo Proxies less then 6k miles ago so there is plenty of tire left. While doing that I installed a set of Hawk HPS ceramic pads up front for good measure. I also changed the spark plugs, added new 10mm Magna spark plug wires, and changed the fluids in the transmission and rear end with royal purple. I changed the rear pads with generic ceramics and changed the oil with mobile1 (only thing i ever use in my cars) yesterday on 1/21/2014. I just wanted to make sure she was in top running shape before someone else took her home. Mechanically you could not ask for a better car. This is my 3rd rotary car (owned a 1st and 3rd gen rx7 before this) and I just love how smooth they run. That being said the car does have a few chips from rocks as I did commute a pretty long way on I10 in this car. Nothing is terrible, but what you would expect from highway driving. I also did have a rock hit the passenger fog light 2 weeks ago and crack it. I have not been able to replace that yet, but if I can find one I will. I also just ordered a passenger side window motor because the original one seems to be acting up and I will be changing that this weekend. The plastic teeth on the window motor are known to brake so that will be fixed. The Recaro seats are awesome at keeping your butt in place, but the bolstering is large and the driver side has some light wear from getting in and out the car. The last problem is the known rx8 "h pattern" split on the passenger side dash. The link below has the part number to order a new one, and the price can be adjusted to get this fixed. **rx8club.com/series-i-tech-garage-22/cracked-dash-board-passenger-side-211215/** This is really all I can think of. The car is super solid and has never been in any sort of accident. Again, I have made sure all maintenance has been taken care of on time and this Mazda has plenty of open road ahead. That being said I am a realist and know that my asking price may need to be adjusted for the fog light or anything else a buyer may not love so the price is best offer. Thanks for looking and call/text/email for any questions you may have. Pice is for sale locally and on other forums so I do reserve the right to end the add at any time. |

2016 Mazda CX-5 [w/video]
Mon, Apr 20 2015It's difficult for me to get excited about crossovers. I try hard not to be the stereotypical car guy: ignoring the fact that the rest of the world loves these tall hatchbacks, while yelling, "station wagons make more sense!" until I've voided my lungs of air. Deep down I am that guy, but I work around it. Historically the Mazda CX-5 is one crossover that has been quasi-immune to my knee-jerking. It doesn't weigh two tons, offers a manual transmission (in poverty spec, but still...), and looks faster than its competitors. Most importantly, the CX-5 can round a corner without wobbling like a Slinky at the top of the stairs. No item on that list of plaudits would likely crack the top ten "desirables" for average small CUV shoppers. So, for the 2016 update, Mazda instead upgraded the in-cabin experience along with the requisite nips and tucks to the exterior. I borrowed a 2016 model CX-5 to see whether or not those concessions to comfort affected the car-nerd stuff. And to see if the Mazda could still be my go-to CUV recommendation. Driving Notes The engine options are unchanged for 2016. You can still have the fine, 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, with its 184 horsepower and 185 pound-feet of torque, or its wimpier 2.0-liter lil' brother. My fully spec'd Grand Touring came with the bigger engine, which feels adequately powerful for the class, but not quick. In an era where turbocharged engines are everywhere, revving the Skyactiv 2.5-liter up to its torque peak at 3,250 rpm takes some commitment. I'm annoyed that there's no manual offered with the 2.5L (a combo I can have in both the Mazda3 and Mazda6), but I don't hate the automatic transmission. The six-speed unit is unobtrusive 99 percent of the time; something I regretfully can't tell you about certain nine-speed autos. There are no paddles to play with, but you can tap the shift lever up and down if you're struck by a need for total control. With a new center console and dash, and the addition of the Mazda Connect infotainment system, the '16 CX-5 feels like a new vehicle from behind the wheel. An attractive, pliant, leatherish material swaths the neat console and surrounding real estate. And the perforated leather seats feel damn near upscale. I think that Mazda Connect's version of the central control knob (with handy adjacent volume knob) is almost luddite-proof in its simplicity. There's no latency between twisting and reaction on the screen.
Five vehicles named Top Safety Pick+ including new Civic, MKZ
Fri, 08 Mar 2013In an attempt to help push vehicle safety to a higher level, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety created a stricter Top Safety Pick+ rating last year, which incorporates a brutal small overlap test and requires cars to get Good ratings in four out of the five categories (and no less than Acceptable in the fifth). Joining the list of the safest cars of 2013, the 2013 Volvo XC60, Lincoln MKZ, Honda Civic (sedan and coupe) and the 2014 Mazda6 have all received the coveted TSP+ rating.
The Mazda6 and Lincoln MKZ have both been completely redesigned, and both received Acceptable ratings in the small overlap test. The Honda Civic, coming off its emergency refresh for 2013, is the first small car to be subjected to the small overlap test, and IIHS says that one of the car's many upgrades includes a stiffer front structure allowing it to receive Good ratings in all categories. Similarly, the XC60 gets all Good ratings thanks to, according to IIHS, Volvo updating the airbag software allowing the side airbags to inflate during the small overlap test.
The 2014 Subaru Forester has not yet been subjected to the small overlap test, so it must make do with just a Top Safety Pick rating until the IIHS tests small utility vehicles, which is expected to happen later in the spring.
2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata won't get power folding hardtop
Thu, 11 Sep 2014Following the reveal of the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata, more and more details (and rumors - oh, the rumors) are coming out regarding exactly what's in store when the car finally goes on sale. Our own Chris Paukert had plenty to say about the exterior and interior, and we've now seen the first photo of the engine. But a new report from Automobile sheds even more light on the 2016 Miata - specifically, that the power folding hardtop model won't be available, at least initially.
Automobile reports that the 2016 MX-5 will only be offered with a cloth top, and an insider confirmed that the mechanism is light and accessible enough that it can be raised and lowered with one hand from inside the car. Mazda officials would not comment on the availability of a hardtop in the coming years.
That said, a hardtop Miata isn't out of the question. There will likely be some sort of fixed roof available - even as a one-piece, lift-off accessory - if only for club racing. Also, remember that the current NC Miata's hardtop is the only one on the market that doesn't take up any additional trunk space, so it's an attractive proposition for buyers. Currently, the power hardtop is only offered on the Club and Grand Touring MX-5 Miata trims.
