Spectacular California 2005 Mazda RX-8 Grand Touring with Sport Package
This is a really amazing low mileage (just 41,000 miles!!!) and very clean 2005 Mazda RX-8. It is the Grand Touring, and includes the Sport Package as well. You pretty much get every option that was available on the car at the time. It even has the premium wheels, power sunroof, cruise control, power locks and windows, power driver's seat, am/fm/cd, air conditioning and heat, as well as the traction control and stability control (that you can turn off if you'd like as well). Of course it has the 6 speed manual transmission, wankel engine, and awesome doors for easy access to the back. It's got the limited red on black interior with the leather seats. I even just bought brand new floor mats for it. On the outside, it just looks great. A couple of minor blemishes you don't even notice, that I mentioned in the 'condition description'. It's been garage kept, and has only been in the beautiful weather of Northern California. We've not put it on a race track, and of course it's title and carfax are perfectly clean! I also just put in a new battery, and we had it inspected about 10 months ago at Capitol Mazda in San Jose. They even did a compression test since it was the end of the warranty, and we had the 40000 mile service done - as well as new plug and wires. There was a small leak in the rear differential, and we had that fixed as well. Mechanically, and aesthetically, you won't find a better RX-8 out there! I spent months and months (and then some) looking for this car for my wife. But, she doesn't really drive it much, and is ready to have a little extra room in the garage! Thanks, and good luck bidding! Happy to answer any questions you might have! |

Mazda Miata 'fathers' Hall and Case offer a tour through the roadster's history
Wed, 10 Sep 2014The original Mazda Miata broke onto the automotive scene in 1989 and was a huge success. However, the convertible's genesis goes all the way back to the early '80s. Bob Hall and Dean Case were among the inside men of the program on the US side, and they were on hand at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca during the recent MX-5 event there to tell some of their stories about the project's beginning.
Hall was on the Miata project from very early on, and one of his most fascinating stories is how the convertible got its shape. The droptop wasn't necessarily going to be a rear-wheel drive roadster. There were both front-wheel-drive coupe and mid-engine concepts being considered. In fact, the classic look of the NA generation was the least favorite of the three at the sketch stage.
Hall comes off as a jokester hiding a genius mind. He has a fountain of information in his head about what a Miata should be, but it all comes down to "less is more." However, he admits that it's easy to conceive that idea, but it's much harder to actually execute it well.
Alfa Romeo takes Spider in-house, Mazda-Fiat roadster partnership not dead
Sat, Dec 20 2014It's officially off. Following a report in March of this year that the marriage of Mazda and Alfa Romeo to produce a MX-5-based Spider was in trouble, the Italians have confirmed that it will take development in-house. "As far as the Spider goes, the final version is of course no longer the two-seater FCA co-developed with Mazda but a derivative of Project Giorgio," Maserati and Alfa Romeo brand boss Harald Wester told Car. For those not in the know, Project Giorgio is Alfa's codename for the rear-drive platform that will underpin the next-generation Spider, not to mention the replacement for the 159 sedan and a few other products. All is not lost for the Japanese-Italian partnership, though. "The Far East import will probably find a new home with Fiat-Abarth," Wester told Car. Yes, you read that correctly, Mazda is still working with FCA, and the result will eventually end up with Abarth's scorpion badge. If anything, we're more excited over this news than the idea of an Alfa MX-5. But we want to know what you think – would you rather Alfa build a new Spider on the Miata's bones, or does an MX-5 Abarth sound like more fun? Have your say in Comments.
Carmakers, NHTSA to unveil auto-emergency braking agreement tomorrow
Wed, Mar 16 2016Happy St. Patrick's Day Eve. Tomorrow, there will be green beer, corned beef and cabbage, and automatic emergency braking for all. Weird combo, we know. But on St. Patty's we can expect an official announcement from a pact of automakers making auto-braking systems standard equipment by 2022. That's per a report from Reuters, which cites three sources familiar with the plans. Originally announced in September 2015 by 10 automakers and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the agreement is expected to be even larger when the details are unveiled tomorrow. According to Reuters, the manufacturers of 99 percent of the US domestic market's vehicles will be represented by the new agreement. It's believed that standard AEB systems could prevent thousands of accidents across the country. Expect more on the official announcement when it's made. Related Video:
