1984 Mazda RX-7 GS

When you think of 80s Performance Imports what comes to mind ?
This car is at the top of the list and in case you havent noticed
they are getting much harder to find, esp this nice and this original !

Up for auction a nice clean unmolested First GEN RX7
the car that changed the look for Mazda for people to take notice
and say "yeah, I could drive that !!"
this is a 1 owner car, was originally bought new outta Santa Cruz CA
and owned by an older woman since day 1.
Been well kept and maintained its whole life and what Id call
a nice unmolested survivor. Soon after it left CA it came to AZ where
its was garage kept most of its life. Very little sun damage and
zero rust on the body or floors, RX7s like this are getting harder to
find these days. The original paint still actually in nice shape over
most of the car and chances are it could be buffed out and brought
back to look nice with an afternoon detail job.

Check out our feedback - feel comfortable buying from
someone like us with GREAT large pics in our ads and
GREAT FEEDBACK.
Ive been driving the car around now for the last week
almost daily and it has plenty of power, starts and runs
great every time and is a blast to drive.

Had receipts from original owner showing all the oil changes
and repairs it needed since 84. Nice history tracked over its
whole life. Car even comes with the original window sticker
and misc pamphlets given to the owner when new.

DRIVETRAIN: Original 12A Rotory  runs great with plenty of
power in every gear.   ALL stock - un molested just the
way Mazda built it. Whenever something broke or wore out
it was repaired and kept on the road. Under the hood looks
almost like when it was new. Mild oil leaks under the car
but they are small. Shocks do feel a little worn out and soft
but the brakes and rest of the car feel better then a car this old.
Not sure where its suppose to idle out, but to me it idles a little
lower then normal, but mostly when its cold. Plugs, cap and rotor
are new. Fires up fine whether its hot or cold.
Power of the little rotary motor is just like it should be and
transmission feels great. Cruise control not working due to a
broken vacuum nipple off the canister under the hood.
Runs great, the gas in the tank may be 6m old from not being
driven much lately, so I think once whats in there is run out and
fresh 91 is put in it, it will only run even better.

INTERIOR: Doesnt look like a car that is almost 30 yrs old
thanks to being in the garage most of its life. Check out the
Pics, which show how nice the car still is.  Its always
been taken care of and kept clean and shows little wear.
The worst spot, the dr side door panel by the window which
would be a really easy fix if you wanted to.
Sunroof I think may even be a pop out, not sure. Everything
works best I can tell inside the car. Even the original factory
stereo etc works well and the dash was never cut up or trashed.
Glass is all great around, may be one chip in the windshield.
AC all connected and worked last summer, but now
it is blowing warm not cold.

SUSPENSION: All stock original down to the OE alloy rims
Feels good, but Im sure it will need some bushings if you
looked hard. But no weird noises , but Im sure the shocks are
old, the ride is a little mushy.  Tires decent, and should get you by for
another yr. The great thing about taking apart a rust free
car like this when it comes time to work on it, you have
less hassles with broken bolts etc making the future repairs
and maintenance that much easier. Brake feel great too.

BODY: Really nice shape for its age. A few small dents and dings.
The 2 worst spots : LF Fender and RR wheel well (see pics)
Trunk struts work well,  this is a great Driver as
is or would be an easy car to restore back to original.
Honestly, if you buffed the paint out and just drove it you could
keep the car still 100% original and in most cases thats way
better then just tossing new paint on a car to be pretty.
They are only original once !!

Japan could consolidate to three automakers by 2020

Thu, Feb 11 2016

Sergio Marchionne might see his dream of big mergers in the auto industry become a reality, and an analyst thinks Japan is a likely place for consolidation to happen. Takaki Nakanishi from Jefferies Group LLC tells Bloomberg the country's car market could combine to just three or fewer major players by 2020, from seven today. "To have one or two carmakers in a country is not only natural, but also helpful to their competitiveness," Nakanishi told Bloomberg. "Japan has just too many and the resources have been too spread out. It's a natural trend to consolidate and reduce some of the wasted resources." Nakanishi's argument echoes Marchionne's reasons to push for a merger between FCA and General Motors. Automakers spend billions on research and development, but their competitors also invest money to create the same solutions. Consolidating could conceivably put that R&D money into new avenues. "In today's global marketplace, it is increasingly difficult for automakers to compete in lower volume segments like sports cars, hydrogen fuel cells, or electrified vehicles on their own," Ed Kim, vice president of Industry Analysis at AutoPacific, told Autoblog. Even without mergers, these are the areas where Japanese automakers already have partners for development. Kim cited examples like Toyota and Subaru's work on the BRZ and FR-S and its collaboration with BMW on a forthcoming sports car. Honda and GM have also reportedly deepened their cooperation on green car tech. After Toyota's recent buyout of previous partner Daihatsu, Nakanishi agrees with rumors that the automotive giant could next pursue Suzuki. He sees them like a courting couple. "For Suzuki, it's like they're just starting to exchange diaries and have yet to hold hands. When Toyota's starts to hold 5 percent of Suzuki's shares, this will be like finally touching fingertips," Nakanishi told Bloomberg. "I absolutely do believe that we are not finished seeing consolidation in Japan," Kim told Autoblog. Rising development costs to meet tougher emissions regulations make it hard for minor players in the market to remain competitive. "The smaller automakers like Suzuki, Mazda, and Mitsubishi are challenged to make it on their own in the global marketplace. Consolidation for them may be inevitable." Related Video:

Mazda LM55 Vision Gran Turismo reshapes a winning form [w/video]

Fri, Dec 26 2014

In the history of endurance racing, there's only ever been one Japanese automaker to win the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans, and as you might have guessed, that was Mazda in 1991 with the 787B – which was, incidentally, the only one ever to win the race under rotary power, or really anything other than a conventional piston engine. That racing success is something Mazda can be proud about, even over two decades later, and it's a badge of honor the automaker is revisiting with the LM55 prototype you see here. Only instead of unleashing it on the Circuit de la Sarthe – or really any actual race track – the Mazda LM55 Vision Gran Turismo is bound only for PlayStation. The latest addition to the Vision Gran Turismo lineup, the LM55 takes inspiration from the aforementioned 787B but gives it a modern KODO design theme. The result is pretty stunning, taking a more radical approach than the Skyactiv Prototype the company is fielding in the United SportsCar Championship or even the dearly departed, head-turning Furai concept. But unlike that diesel prototype and the Wankel-powered 787B, Mazda hasn't specified any kind of novel powertrain for the LM55, fictitious or otherwise - saying only that it has "advanced drive train technology that offers the epitome of power, efficiency and durability and the result is an exceptional power to weight ratio exceeding that of most cars in its class." Just what that class would be we'll likely never find out, but if you don't have a PS3 loaded with GT6 (or, for that matter, even if you do), you can scope out the virtual action in the slideshow above and the rather Christmas-y video below. A tough choice: 2017 Honda CR-V vs. 2017 Mazda CX-5

Tue, Mar 14 2017

One has to feel for the typical new-car buyer. The one not reading Autoblog and the one who recognizes a V8 as vegetable juice. For them, picking between compact crossovers must seem like choosing between various identically sized cardboard boxes. Which one do you want? "Ah, I'll take the one with the best deal." Except, with the 2017 Honda CR-V and now the 2017 Mazda CX-5, Joe P. Everyman has a chance to choose between two vehicles that are quite clearly different, yet also clearly leaders in what they do. Everything else seems like alternatives based on price or perhaps off-road readiness (Jeeps Compass and Cherokee, perhaps a Subaru Forester). As scheduling would have it, a 2017 CR-V Touring just happened to be sitting in my garage the week I was set to drive the new CX-5 Grand Touring in San Diego. This isn't a complete, scientifically enacted comparison test, but there was enough drive time in close succession on the same roads and with similar price tags to draw conclusions. At its simplest, the CX-5 is the best choice for the driver while the CR-V is the best choice for everyone else aboard. That's not to say they are myopic in those classifications – the CX-5 could still ably handle family duty, while the CR-V is impressively well-rounded to drive in a way that shouldn't turn off those seeking some driving involvement. However, each has a clear focus that sets it down a different path toward different target buyers. Let's start with the newer kid on the block from Mazda. It is best suited for the person whose life changes have dictated the switch from an agile car to some sort of family hauler. Its spot-on steering and throttle response evoke Porsche, while the six-speed automatic transmission favors performance over fuel economy (while still getting really good fuel economy). Those dynamic elements, plus a carefully crafted, ideal driving position should make the CX-5 feel "just right" for those used to more sporting, non-family-oriented transport. Inside, the latest CX-5 boasts a handsome, upscale design with materials to match. Aesthetically, to these eyes at least, it's the best of a crowded bunch. Quality-wise, only the also-impressive CR-V would seem to come close. Along with the slick new exterior, the cabin conveys the more premium vibe that Mazda was shooting for with the new CX-5 – it also makes a more emotional connection than the typical cardboard box on wheels.
