You are viewing a 3rd owner beautifully maintained original 1984 Mazda RX-7 GS with an (hard to find) automatic 4spd transmission with 71560 original miles.    There are no known mechanical issues with the engine and transmission.  The car runs and drives perfectly!   I have owned this vehicle since 2000, and have only driven it approximately 5000 miles.  Most of its time with me has been in storage.  Prior to me, the vehicle was owned by a sheriff who purchased it in 1986. He also maintained it in storage for many years.  As far as I am aware, the vehicle has never seen a winter!  There is no rust on the body, and the car was treated in the 80’s with the anticorrosivetreatment (rusty jones— see engine picture). The paint is in gorgeous condition and lusters with a fresh coat of wax.  However, there are several areas that have chips and dings as expected for a nearly 30 year old vehicle (butthese are hardly noticeable).  Mechanically the car is absolutely sound!    Tires arenew (maybe 200 miles on the tread), and about 5000 miles on all new brakes.

This car is a perfect candidate for restoration to show room condition as it doesn’t need that much!  If you are looking to experience the retro classic sports car feel from the 80’s then this vehicle is for you!

Mazda 16X rotary engine two years away, will arrive in all-new model

Fri, 16 Aug 2013

We last reported on Mazda's next-generation rotary engine project in June of 2012 when the automaker built its last Renesis-powered RX-8, but rumors of this new engine's development had been around way before that final car left the production line in Japan, last year.
We now have enthusiastic confirmation that this next-gen rotary engine is really and truly going forward. It is still referred to as 16X and has several priorities. First is to lower fuel consumption compared to the RX-8's engine, while still making gains in terms of performance. The second is to reduce the burning of oil that was happening at the highest revs. And the third and final priority, and perhaps most key for enthusiasts, is to give the powertrain a big torque upgrade.
What we were told by a Mazda USA insider (while we are all here together at the festivities in Monterey) is that the first application of the new 16X engine will be happening in two years' time in an as yet undisclosed new model. Oh, the mind races to our eternal Mazda wish list...

Mazda's first profit in five years in sight due to weak yen

Fri, 05 Apr 2013

Automotive News reports Mazda is set to turn a profit for the first time in five years. The automaker is more dependent on exports from Japan than other automakers based in that country, and as a result, it has long suffered at the hands of a strong yen. But the currency has declined in value by some 16 percent over the past six months and Mazda's shares have tripled in value to their highest level since 2008. Contrast this situation to a year ago when Mazda printed 1.22 billion new shares to raise cash. The move was equivalent to 70 percent of the company's then-outstanding stock, and values tumbled to record lows as a result.
Now that the yen has fallen to a value of around 96 per dollar, Mazda operations in the US are more profitable and the company now projects it will earn around $279 million for the next fiscal year. Automotive News says a one yen change against the dollar can have a 9.1 percent impact on Mazda operating profit compared to 4.7 percent at Subaru parent Fuji Heavy Industries or 3.1 percent at Toyota. Those automakers better insulate themselves from currency fluctuations with overseas manufacturing facilities.

Mazda recalling 88k vehicles for ECU glitch

Fri, 04 Apr 2014

Need a break from news about the General Motors ignition switch recall? This Mazda recall should serve as a nice change of pace. It involves 88,000 cars across the globe, and focuses on the brand's three most recent (and important) models - the Mazda3, Mazda6 and CX-5.
The issue rests with Mazda's new i-ELOOP regenerative braking system. Apparently there's a problem with the ECU program that monitors whether a capacitor in the regen system is working. Acceleration is affected, and in severe cases, the engine could stall. There have been no mention of accidents or injuries due to the issue, and the glitch itself can be cured by an ECU reflash.
As i-ELOOP is a fairly new system for Mazda, particularly in the US, the total number of affected models is rather low, with just 6,500 US cars affected. Europe is hit hardest, with 38,000 models while Mazda's home market of Japan adds 27,600 cars and crossovers. Affected models were built between October 2012 and January 2014.
