  1988 Mazda RX-7 Convertible 5-Speed with 17,500 original miles

Up for sale is an incredibly clean and original triple black manual transmission 1988 Mazda RX-7 Convertible with 17,500 original miles.  See below for a complete description of the car.  I have a small collection of sports cars and I have exceeded my storage with a recent acquisition ('93 RX-7 with 11k miles) thus need to sell a car.

Car History:

I purchased the car from the 2nd owner in August of 2013 out of Georgia.  It was previously in Virginia with the original owner since new.  It has always been stored in a garage under a car cover and with a battery tender.  The car has a clean car fax which verifies both the mileage and accident free history.  Included with the purchase are the original Owner's Manual, Accessories Guide, Warranty book, Mazda Sales Brochure, Original Window Sticker,  the original Purchase order, the like new convertible boot cover, and two keys.

Vehicle Condition:

The car has zero rust and has always been a "sunny day" driver.  I have driven the car to Las Vegas twice in the last six months and the car performed perfectly.

The body of the car is in great condition with no damage or signs or repair.  The original paint is in very good condition and only has a few small rock chips on the hood.  There are two places where touch up paint was used to repair very shallow scratches, one on each side of the car and are not visible in the pictures, but are in person.  That said, the original paint shines bright.

The 13B rotary engine is more than sufficient to propel the car and with the 5-speed manual transmission you can get the most out of the high revving rotary engine.  The engine has had required no work other than full synthetic oil & filter changes.  Same goes for the transmission with no non-maintenance repairs.  Both the engine and transmission are without issue and operate as the mileage would indicate.

All vehicle electronics are fully operational including the A/C which works great and does NOT need a charge, as well as the factory radio/CD player including the headrest speakers.  I did replace the door speakers last fall, but everything else is stock and works great.  The power top and latching mechanisms work perfectly and the top easily converts to a targa should you desire a less than full convertible experience.  All glass is fee of cracks.  The only item not working correctly is the remote truck release which works infrequently.

The "off black" original interior is in excellent condition with very little wear to the driver's side bolster.   All gauges work accurately as do the dash lights, clock, and even the annoying "shift up" light.

The RX-7 sports Michelin MXV4 All season tires with about 2,500 miles on them.  They sit on the OEM BBS rims that in my opinion fit the car's design perfectly.  The wheels have no damage and look great.

Maintenance:

Due to the low mileage and indoor storage, very little maintenance has been needed for this RX-7.  I had the car inspected prior to my purchase and only the battery was in need of servicing, everything else checked out fine.  I have receipts for the tires  as well as the most recent oil changes, but otherwise these is not much to tell.

Overall this is an excellent condition original FC convertible that is a lot of fun to drive and is ready to be driven anywhere.  The history is known and documented with original paperwork and a clean/clear Box A (original mileage) AZ title.  The car is located in Chandler Arizona which is a suburb of Phoenix.

Auction Details:

A $500 non-refundable deposit is required within 24 hours via PayPal.  Final payment via bank wire or cash is due within 7 days of the auction ending.  If the above is not complied with or other arrangements are not agreed to prior, the transaction will be canceled, negative feedback left, and the car will be re-listed.  All shipping costs are the responsibility of the buyer but I will assist in the pick up as needed.  The car is located in Chandler, Arizona 85249.

Thanks for your interest in my RX-7 and feel free to contact me with any questions.

2016 Mazda CX-9 starts at $32,420 with standard turbo engine

Thu, Mar 17 2016

The 2016 Mazda CX-9 will start at $32,420 (including $900 for destination) when it arrives at dealers later this spring. The base price is just slightly higher than competitors in the three-row CUV segment like the 2016 Ford Explorer for $31,995 and 2016 Honda Pilot for $31,045. The new model is also more expensive than the 2015 CX-9, which had a $30,865 starting price. All versions of the 2016 CX-9 use Mazda's new 2.5-liter turbocharged engine with 250 horsepower (on 93-octane fuel) and 310 pound-feet of torque, which routes through a six-speed automatic. The combo returns an EPA-estimated 22 miles per gallon city, 28 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined in front-wheel-drive form. All-wheel drive adds $1,800 to the price of most trims. We found the powertrain to be fantastic during when driving the CX-9 prototype. Even the base CX-9 Sport trim has amenities like LED headlights and taillights, a backup camera, trailer stability assist, and a seven-inch infotainment system. An optional Sport Package for $950 adds a power driver's seat, heated front seats, and heated side mirrors. Customers can really load the CX-9 with tech, though. The Touring model for $36,870 has Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, keyless entry, a power hatch, and an eight-inch infotainment system. The optional Touring Premium Package for $1,745 also adds automatic headlights, LED fog lights, navigation, and Smart City Brake Support. If that's not enough, the Grand Touring for $41,070 features a head-up display, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist, and radar cruise control. The top spec CX-9 Signature for $44,915 includes all of these features and comes standard with all-wheel drive. It also has Nappa leather upholstery, rosewood trim, LED lighting around the gearshift, and LED accents on the grille. Import pickup truck-killing Chicken Tax to be repealed?

Tue, Jun 30 2015

After over 50 years, the so-called Chicken Tax may finally be going the way of the dodo. Two pending trade deals with countries in the Pacific Rim and Europe potentially could open the US auto market up to imported trucks, if the measures pass. Although, it still might be a while before you can own that Volkswagen Amarok or Toyota Hilux, if ever. The 25-percent import tariff that the Chicken Tax imposes on foreign trucks essentially makes the things all but impossible to sell one profitably in the US, which lends a distinct advantage to domestic pickups. Both the Trans-Pacific Partnership with 12 counties and Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership with the European Union would finally end the charge. According to Automotive News though, don't expect new pickups to flood the market, at least not immediately. These deals might roll back the tariff gradually over time, and in the case of Japan, it could be as long as 25 years before fully free trade. Furthermore, Thailand, a major truck builder in Asia, isn't currently part of the deal, and any new models here would still need to meet safety and emissions rules, as well. Automotive News gauged the very early intentions of several automakers with foreign-built trucks, and they weren't necessarily champing at the bit to start imports. Toyota thinks the Hilux sits between the Tundra and Tacoma, and Mazda doesn't think the BT-50 fits its image here. Also, VW doesn't necessarily want to bring the Amarok over from Hannover. There is previous precedent for companies at least considering bringing in pickup trucks after the Chicken Tax's demise, though. The Pacific free trade deal could be done as soon as this fall, while the EU one is likely further out, according to Automotive News. Given enough time, the more accessible ports could allow some new trucks to enter the market.

Mazda3 diesel under consideration for US, hybrid not so much

Thu, 27 Jun 2013

It's been a long time coming, but we finally clapped our eyes on the real deal, officially official 2014 Mazda3 in hatchback form yesterday. Yet there's a lot more to learn about this next-generation version of what has always been one of our favorite compacts. We know that the US version will come with one of two Skyactiv engines, but what about alternatives? Will there be any... or will the gasoline-fed four-cylinders be powerful and frugal enough to carry the day?
According to Automotive News, the answer is a definite maybe. Mazda North America CEO Jim O'Sullivan has told the trade publication that his employer will consider adding the company's well-liked 2.2-liter Skyactiv diesel powerplant to the model down the road. However, the company first wants to see how the engine fares with American consumers in its big-brother Mazda6 sedan, a model that goes on sale later this year. As for a potential Mazdaspeed3 successor, mum is still the word.
Anything else? Uncharacteristically, Mazda will build a hybrid model of its new 3. We say "uncharacteristically," because the Japanese independent has long shied away from gas-electric powertrain tech. In fact, it's gone so far as to boldly announce its aversion to the technology, with auto show banners proclaiming "Not Electric. Not Hybrid. Not A Drag To Drive." Despite all that, this new generation of Mazda3 will in fact be the company's first full hybrid production model. According to AN, however, O'Sullivan says that the company has "no plans" to sell it in the US.
