I have a 1993 Touring for sale with clean title, and current registration. I was told by previous owner that motor was rebuilt at 90k, but I have no documentation. The car drives wonderfully. The light weight chassis on new tires really feels great. Motor starts right up without hesitation (even on a cold day) and the the transmission shifts strong. Factory options are all the touring stuff (BOSE stereo with CD player, leather, sunroof, etc.... )

PROS:
Car is mostly stock with the exception of a color change, staggered wheels/tires, and spoiler delete. Car has beautiful new paint, new brakes, new tires, and a new windshield. The windshield was replaced due to a tiny chip that grew to a large crack, not an accident. Color is anthracite (metallic grey/silver) and looks amazing. Paired with new glass, it really looks like it just came off the showroom floor. The car runs great shifts strong. This is a California car so there is no rust. It was garage stored for most of its life. Interior is in good condition with nearly all wear isolated to driver’s seat and some minor staining on the floor mats. The car is very complete and even includes the small storage cover on the driver’s side which is quite rare. All buttons and switches function and the windows/sunroof open shut at normal speed (no limp motors).

CONS:
The down side is that the passenger door handles broken and the speedo/tach dropped out. The speedo is powered by a speed sensor on the tranny and the tachometer is powered by the speedo. The Mazda mechanic in the area says that the failure is due to the speed sensor on the tranny, but I have found others online with similar symptoms that fixed it by replacing a leaking capacitor on the gauge cluster. I found the speed sensor new on EBAY for $150+ship, and found a few used ones on the forums for $30-$50. If it is the capacitors, then the fix is less than $0.99, but you need to know how to solder.

All in all a great car that will make someone very happy!

Mazda de Mexico celebrates 100,000th car built

Sun, Dec 28 2014

Automakers and their factories celebrate production milestones all the time. Some are interesting enough to report on and some aren't, but what makes this one stand out is that the plant opened less than a year ago. Just 11 months since production began, Mazda de Mexico Vehicle Operation has put together its 100,000th vehicle – in this case a Mazda2 hatchback headed for Europe. MMVO is one of three plants assembling the company's smallest model, also known as the Demio in Japan, where it is also produced, with additional assembly taking place in Thailand under a joint venture with Ford. The Mexican location also handles assembly of the Mazda3 for the Americas and for Europe. Mazda has announced that it is expanding production at MMVO by 150 percent of this year's capacity to 250,000 units per year by March 2016 as it takes on contract manufacturing for Toyota as well.

Fiat reconsidering Mazda-based Alfa Romeo roadster? [w/poll]

Mon, 03 Mar 2014

Alfa giveth and Alfa taketh away. With apologies to Job (he has gone through a lot, after all), that's how things are looking at the Italian automaker - whether it's the promise of new products or its impending return to the North American market. But it's especially true when it comes to new roadsters.
While Alfa Romeo is expected to unveil the 4C Spider at the Geneva Motor Show this week, reports are now suggesting that its other roadster project is being called into question. That project is a joint venture between Fiat and Mazda, which was set to produce a version of its next MX-5 Miata as an Alfa Romeo, and was even changing the design to accommodate Alfa's requirements.
Now it appears, however, that the whole project in doubt. The problem seems to stem from Sergio Marchionne's pronouncements that, as long as he's in charge, there won't be an Alfa Romeo built outside of Italy.

Petrolicious lets a 1971 Mazda RX-2 howl

Fri, Jan 15 2016

Rotary engines scream to the heavens in the best way possible. To hear a wonderful example of the Wankel's battle cry, turn up your speakers and watch Petrolicious highlight an immaculately clean 1971 Mazda RX-2 in Australia. Owner Jason Humble took three years to build his RX-2 from a bare shell, and he started competing with it in vintage racing in 2005. The little coupe's class pits it on track against Mustangs and Camaros, but Humble claims that he's regularly near the top of the pack thanks to the Mazda's communicative chassis. We don't get to see the RX-2 mixing things up on track in the Petrolicious video, but Humble does treat us to a drive through the Australian countryside. He's happy to let the coupe's rotary rev, and the little engine is capable of making a wonderful noise. It's great to see Petrolicious continue to give the spotlight to these sometimes overlooked classic Japanese sports cars.
