It's time for me to downsize my collection before I lose garage space next year. I will be listing 2 Mercedes, 2 Olds 442's, a Jaguar XK8 Coupe, and this car. Please watch for my other listings if you are interested. All of these cars have something special to offer. I will be happy to assist with any inspection or pick up by carrier. I am 45 minutes South of the Atlanta airport. Payment will be accepted by bank wire transfer, check, or cash. No vehicle will be released before all funds have cleared my bank. I have a perfect eBay rating and want to keep it that way. I ask the same of you. Please don't bid unless you have the funds available to complete the transaction. All vehicles will be advertised locally, and I reserve the right to end any auction early. In fairness to all bidders, I will not disclose reserve prices. Good luck to all.

I purchased this car from it's original owner. It has always been used as an occasional driver, and I was told it had never spent a night outside or been driven in the rain. While I can't prove this, the depth of the original paint, bright chrome, clear lenses, supple rubber gaskets, still clean as new wheels, beautiful undercarriage, and flawless convertible top certainly make a strong case to back the statement. You have to drive it to truly understand how tight everything on the car feels. I have kept it garaged with the original owner's custom cover, and on a Battery Plus trickle charger since I bought it. The cover will go with the sale. I have the owner's manual, original window sticker, and the top boot that has never been taken out of it's packaging.

The body is almost perfect. There is one large scratch on the passenger door (noted in a picture), and several minor scratches around the car that aren't visible except under close observation. The paint is a very shiny, deep gloss black. All chrome is excellent. The BBS wheels are bright and without curb rash, and have premium Michelin tires with less than 1000 miles. The trunk looks unused. Under the hood is extremely clean. The convertible top shows no wear or lose of color. The leather interior is still supple and fade free. I believe the car has always been driven with the top up, and the interior has remained new in appearance. The driver side outside seat bolster shows a little wear, otherwise I would call the interior perfect. All glass is scratch free, including the convertible rear window. That's how nice she is.

1988 was the first year for the RX7 convertible, and it was a very limited production car. This one was delivered loaded. I have the original window sticker showing a $24,285 price. Options include air conditioning, power windows, 4 wheel ventilated disc brakes, cruise control, cassette player (remember those?), compact disc player with 6 speakers that included speakers in the headrests, leather seats and door trim, glass rear window with defroster, center console with armrest, BBS wheels, halogen headlamps. and illuminated glove box and ignition. For the year, this was about as good as it got.

Everything works perfectly on this beauty. The power top has rarely been used, and performs flawlessly. The shifter and clutch have no slack. The power windows are smooth. I have just had the A/C system serviced, and she blows cold on the hottest day. All fluids have been serviced since my ownership, and the oil changed again less than 100 miles ago. She can be driven anywhere without worries. While I would prefer to see it go to an appreciative collector, it would make a perfect first car for somebody's kid. I hate to see her go, but it's time. Whoever buys this lady will be more than happy with their purchase. Is it you?

First batch of 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miatas lands in US [w/video]

Wed, Jul 1 2015

Have you been patiently awaiting the arrival of the all-new 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata? Then we're glad to report that your patience has paid off. In fact, even if you haven't been so patient, we're still glad to report that the wait is finally over, as the first batch of the new Japanese roadsters has arrived on American soil. The initial batch of several hundred MX-5s arrived at the port of San Diego from the factory in Hiroshima on board the Phoenix Leader, a 636-foot vehicle carrier ship registered in Panama and operated by Japanese shipping giant NYK Lines. The vehicles are currently being processed at the SoCal port, with deliveries to commence "in the next several weeks," according to Mazda in the brief statement below. The fourth-generation Miata, designated generation ND, mad its global debut at the Paris Motor Show, and its US debut at the LA Auto Show. Production commenced in Japan this past March. The new roadster arrives in US showrooms with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine (the smaller 1.5 kept away from these shores), a six-speed manual (replacing the previous five-cogger), a folding soft roof (no retractable hard top this time), and a starting MSRP of $24,915 (plus an $820 destination charge). That, of course, is for the base Sport model, with higher-spec Club and Grand Touring trims also on offer. Along with the images above, you can watch footage of the vehicles driving off the ship in the video below. Might we recommend, however, muting the cheesy soundtrack and playing something more suitable over it instead. Neil Diamond's (Coming to) America ought to do the trick... today! 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata will rock 2.0L SkyActiv engine in US, 1.5L elsewhere

Wed, 01 Oct 2014

Let the speculation finally end - we know what will power the next-generation 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata, and it's not turbocharged. The US model will get a SkyActiv 2.0-liter engine and six-speed manual, while models in the rest of the world have a 1.5-liter engine, confirming earlier rumors.
Unfortunately, Mazda isn't letting loose how much power either of these mills make just yet. For sake of comparison, the current SkyActiv 2.0 in the Mazda3 produces 155 horsepower and 150 pound-feet of torque, and the 1.5-liter in the UK (and elsewhere) has about 99 hp and 110 lb-ft of twist. However, the current Miata produces 167 hp and 140 lb-ft.
But fret not droptop fans. The company's brochure from the 2014 Paris Motor Show confirms, "all available drivetrains have been specially tuned for the all-new MX-5," which at least hints at the possibility of more performance. Also, even if the numbers remain untouched, the new Miata should feel even more sporting on the open road. That's because Mazda says the new model weighs in the neighborhood of 2,200 pounds; with that in mind, the 2016 car would boast around 14.19 pounds per horsepower versus 14.85 lb/hp in the present MX-5. Progress!

Modded budget Mazda Miata takes on new Porsche Boxster in more challenges

Tue, 23 Sep 2014

Earlier this month, our friends across the pond at Auto Express released the first in a two-video series that would see them try and build up a second-generation Mazda MX-5 Miata that could best a standard Porsche Boxster around the track. While that first video detailed the mods to the MX-5 - a supercharger, some suspension upgrades and a new set of super-sticky rubber being chief among them - and set baseline lap times for the stock car, today, we have the results of the 5,000-pound ($8,200) upgrade job.
Of course, we aren't going to spoil those for you. You'll need to watch the full video, which recaps the upgrades before digging into a comparison of both straight-line-speed differences between the 2.7-liter Porsche Boxster and blown Miata, as well as their behavior and lap times on the track.
Take a look and let us know what you think in Comments.
