This is a NO RESERVE listing.

This is my 1988 Mazda RX-7 GXL 5-speed coupe with 60,342 original miles.

This has got to be one of the cleanest, most-original, best-condition 2nd-generation RX-7 models for sale in the country.

Not many of these cars exist with such low miles, original paint and in superb mechanical condition- this car is outstandingly nice.

This car has the following equipment and options:
  • 1.3L Rotary engine
  • 5-speed manual transmission
  • power sunroof
  • A/C (works great)
  • factory radio with AM/FM cassette and graphic EQ!
  • cruise control
  • power locks and windows
  • Auto Adjusting Suspension with Sport and Normal modes
I have the original books, manuals and dealer brochures with the car as well as two keys.

This car is in exceptional condition for its age.  This car hasn't been modified, hacked up or molested in any way.  This is a completely stock, original-condition car that runs and drives perfectly.

I would trust this car to drive across the country if someone wanted to.

The paint and body of this car are in quite good condition for a 1988 vehicle.  The paint is original, and the car hasn't been in any known accidents.  The paint looks superb for it's age, with excellent gloss and very few stone nicks and no major problems.  The body is clean and very nice.  The aluminum wheels are in very good condition, the glass is all good and the tires are nearly brand new.

The interior of this RX-7 is very well-preserved and in great condition.  The seats, upholstery and carpets are original and they are clean and aren't ripped up or worn out.  The seat fabric is very nice and the carpets and even the factory "RX-7" floormats look nice.  All of the switchgear, buttons and interior hardware are clean and aren't worn out and nothing is missing or broken.  All the interior buttons and switches are working, as well as all of the gauges.  The warning lights on the dashboard and gauge cluster are all working properly when the key is turned forward, and they all properly go out when the car is started.

This RX-7 runs and drives beautifully.  This is a tight, stable, nimble and fun-to-drive car that drives exactly how you would expect a 60,000 mile car to drive.  The rotary engine starts perfectly and it doesn't smoke or leak, and it makes plenty of power.  The engine doesn't burn oil nor coolant nor does it smoke even under full throttle.  The engine revs to 2800 rpm when starting just as it should, and then settles down into a smooth idle.  The transmission shifts well and the clutch is strong.  The steering is tight, and the handling is excellent.  The brakes are smooth and powerful and they stop the car very well.

This is a super-driving, rewarding, fun car that runs and drives just as it should.  I know of no mechanical or electrical problems, and everything is working- the air conditioning, the factory radio and EQ, the power locks and windows, the front and rear windshield wipers, the trunk hatch release, the sunroof, the headlight motors, etc, etc.

This is a 1988 car and as such it is not a brand-new car.  Here is a complete list of everything I know of wrong with the car, no matter how minor: you have to help the sunroof up when opening it- just push up gently while holding the button- after that the motors power it back just fine and it closes just fine.  There are many dings on the sides of the car, mostly above the beltline and more on the passenger side- this is what I'd call "garage wear". These dings could of course be fixed but then the car wouldn't have original paint- that's why I've elected to leave them alone- the new owner may feel differently. There is a small split in the vinyl side panel of the outside of the driver's seat- you can see this clearly in the photo.  There is some paint checking on the driver's side.  There is a tiny bit of surface rust due to some stone nicks on the inside lip of the right rear wheel well that has been brush-touched (otherwise the car is rust-free). You can't rush the 1-2 shift under very high rpms, you need to shift relatively slowly- under normal lower-rpm driving there is no issue at all. There is a defroster vent at the left corner of the dash that is missing its louvers. One "Mazda" center cap is missing from the aluminum wheels. That's it.  This is a super clean, beautiful condition RX-7 for the age.

This car is kept in my climate-controlled garage in Willoughby, OH.

You can fly in to Cleveland (CLE) and drive this car home if you wish.  Alternatively, you can have the car shipped.  Please call Angels Moving Autos at 530-245-0481 for a shipping quote.

2016 Mazda CX-5 [w/video]

Mon, Apr 20 2015

It's difficult for me to get excited about crossovers. I try hard not to be the stereotypical car guy: ignoring the fact that the rest of the world loves these tall hatchbacks, while yelling, "station wagons make more sense!" until I've voided my lungs of air. Deep down I am that guy, but I work around it. Historically the Mazda CX-5 is one crossover that has been quasi-immune to my knee-jerking. It doesn't weigh two tons, offers a manual transmission (in poverty spec, but still...), and looks faster than its competitors. Most importantly, the CX-5 can round a corner without wobbling like a Slinky at the top of the stairs. No item on that list of plaudits would likely crack the top ten "desirables" for average small CUV shoppers. So, for the 2016 update, Mazda instead upgraded the in-cabin experience along with the requisite nips and tucks to the exterior. I borrowed a 2016 model CX-5 to see whether or not those concessions to comfort affected the car-nerd stuff. And to see if the Mazda could still be my go-to CUV recommendation. Driving Notes The engine options are unchanged for 2016. You can still have the fine, 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, with its 184 horsepower and 185 pound-feet of torque, or its wimpier 2.0-liter lil' brother. My fully spec'd Grand Touring came with the bigger engine, which feels adequately powerful for the class, but not quick. In an era where turbocharged engines are everywhere, revving the Skyactiv 2.5-liter up to its torque peak at 3,250 rpm takes some commitment. I'm annoyed that there's no manual offered with the 2.5L (a combo I can have in both the Mazda3 and Mazda6), but I don't hate the automatic transmission. The six-speed unit is unobtrusive 99 percent of the time; something I regretfully can't tell you about certain nine-speed autos. There are no paddles to play with, but you can tap the shift lever up and down if you're struck by a need for total control. With a new center console and dash, and the addition of the Mazda Connect infotainment system, the '16 CX-5 feels like a new vehicle from behind the wheel. An attractive, pliant, leatherish material swaths the neat console and surrounding real estate. And the perforated leather seats feel damn near upscale. I think that Mazda Connect's version of the central control knob (with handy adjacent volume knob) is almost luddite-proof in its simplicity. There's no latency between twisting and reaction on the screen.

Honda may recall up to 1M vehicles for airbag issue, following Toyota's lead

Mon, 16 Jun 2014

It seems Toyota won't be the only one recalling the faulty Takata airbag inflators for long. Honda insiders in Japan claim that the company is getting close to announcing its own worldwide campaign that would begin before the end of June.
Unnamed sources close to Honda in Japan tell Automotive News that the company is pursuing an internal investigation into possibly affected models and is working with Takata to gather more information. They claim that it could involve even more than the 1.14 million cars worldwide that the automaker covered under the first recall for the problem in April 2013, including 561,000 vehicles in the US.
Toyota jumpstarted this process last week when it recalled over 2 million cars worldwide, including 844,277 in the US. Soon after, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration began a preliminary evaluation into the issue following six reported incidents, and started assembling data about potentially affected models from Toyota, Honda, Mazda, Nissan, Chrysler. NHTSA also began investigating Takata itself.

Mazda, Suzuki, Yamaha — more vehicle data fabrication found in Japan

Thu, Aug 9 2018

TOKYO — Mazda, Suzuki and Yamaha improperly tested vehicles for fuel economy and emissions, the Japanese government said on Thursday, revealing fresh cases of compliance failures by manufacturers. The results came to light after the Japanese government had ordered the automakers to check their operations after revelations of improper testing at Subaru and Nissan last year. The conduct of automakers globally has come under intense scrutiny after Germany's Volkswagen AG admitted in 2015 to installing secret software in hundreds of thousands of U.S. diesel cars to cheat exhaust emissions tests, and that as many as 11 million vehicles could have similar software installed worldwide. In the Japanese cases, the carmakers have not broken any laws or prompted massive recalls. But a growing list of improprieties has tarnished the image of the country's manufacturing industry for high-quality products and efficiency. Suzuki, Mazda and Yamaha cleared vehicles for emissions or fuel efficiency even in cases where they were tested under invalid conditions, the ministry said in a statement. The errors related to slight deviations in the speed of the vehicles during testing that should have invalidated the test results. The automakers examined tests they had conducted over different periods of time, and in Suzuki's case they stretched back to 2012. None of the automakers found significant problems with actual emissions and fuel economy performance of the vehicles, which were destined for sale in Japan, and do not plan any recalls. Suzuki, Japan's fourth-largest automaker, said that of 12,819 sample vehicles tested for fuel economy and emissions since June 2012, around 50 percent of them had been inspected improperly. "I deeply apologize and will lead efforts to prevent recurrence," Suzuki Chief Executive Toshihiro Suzuki told a news conference. Mazda said there were irregularities in 4 percent of similar inspections on its cars, or just over 70 vehicles. In Yamaha's case, irregularities were found in 2 percent of inspections, or just a handful of vehicles. Both Mazda and Yamaha apologized. Suzuki and Yamaha shares fell 6 and 5 percent, respectively, and Mazda shares were down 1 percent, underperforming a steady benchmark Nikkei average. In July this year, Nissan admitted it had improperly measured exhaust emissions and fuel economy for 19 vehicle models sold in Japan.
