1985 Mazda RX-7 RX7
GSL-SE This is
originally a California car and is just out of storage. It was stored in an
enclosed trailer in California for eight years before I purchased the car. The
car retains all of its original paint and original equipment (the only thing
that isn't original to the car is the radio). It has been well cared for and
maintained. The car runs, drives and
stops perfectly. The tires are in excellent shape with lots of tread left.
There are two sun roofs, one glass and one that is the body color of the car. The car
drives smoothly, brakes straight and accelerates like it should. On the
freeway, the car tracks straight, true and smooth. The engine does not and has not
ever exhibited any of the flooding problems that so many others experience with
the 13B fuel injected engine. The engine runs well and has plenty of power and
revs smoothly. The engine starts immediately, and there is no smoke from the
engine either on start up or while driving. The air
conditioning blows cold, the heater blows hot, the cruise control works and the
clock keeps time. The electric windows work, but are a little slow going up.
Since there is an aftermarket radio, the center console four-way speaker
control is not connected. The electric antenna does not raise up, but I have a brand
new replacement electric antenna still in the box that will be included with
the sale of the car. Overall the
exterior of the car is in excellent condition. There are some rock chips on the
nose and a couple of door dings, things that you would expect for a car that is
30 years old, but overall, the paint is all original and in really good
condition, as can be seen the pictures. The flat black window trim could
probably use a repaint, but it is just wind-worn and I’ll leave that up to the
new owner to repaint or leave as is. I wanted to leave it as original as
possible for the new owner. All the glass is in good shape and there are no
cracks. There is one small rock chip in the windshield on the passenger side
that is not very noticeable. The interior is in very good condition. The only
flaw is the steering wheel. The top of the steering wheel looks as if someone
chewed off the top of it. As mentioned earlier, the only non-stock item in the
interior is the radio. The carpets are in very good condition, having been
protected by aftermarket floor mats. The seat upholstery is in excellent
condition. The seats travel easily in their tracks and the seat back
adjustments work as they should. Included
with the car is a front nose “Bra” in like new condition (not installed) and
louvers for the rear hatch (also not installed). I have a
clear Washington state title in my name. The car is available for viewing by
appointment and I encourage you to do so. Down payment to be made by Paypal. Balance of the sale amount to to be paid by cashier's check within 7 days of the auction end. Shipping is
the responsibility of the buyer, including shipping arrangements and costs. I
will assist with the shipping on my end to the best of my ability. I will store
the car for up to two weeks after the end of the auction to allow for time to
arrange shipping. |

Junkyard Gem: 1988 Mazda 323 GTX
Sat, May 23 2020Back in early 2007, when the late Davey G. Johnson got me my first job writing for an automotive publication (well, unless you count writing for the Year One catalogs back in the mid-1990s) and I took on this goofy pen name for real, I didn't quite grasp that any readers might be interested in the stuff I saw during my frequent junkyard trips. So, when I took my crappy Nikon Coolpix 2500 to the now-defunct Pick Your Part in Hayward, California, and saw a super-rare Mazda 323 GTX among all the Tercels and Rabbits in the IMPORTS section, I just took a few shots of this interesting car for my own enjoyment. These days, I'll take more than 100 photographs of a junkyard car of such great historical significance, editing them down to the best couple of dozen, but in March of 2007 I got just three of the 323 GTX. Robert Capa had his Magnificent Eleven at D-Day, and I've got the Magnificent Three of the GTX. Here they are. Any Mazda 323 of the immediate post-GLC era is a real junkyard rarity today, but Mazda sold very few of the all-wheel-drive, turbocharged homologation-special 323s over here during the 1988 and 1989 model years. A mere 1,243 of these cars made it to North American streets. Back in 2007, they weren't worth much (in fact, they still aren't incredibly valuable, if we go by Bring a Trailer real-world sale prices), and so this one showed up in El Pulpo's yard. These cars wouldn't be considered particularly fast by 21st-century standards, now that we've had decades of street-legal Mitsubishi Lancer Evos and Subaru WRXs flinging snow and mud around, and they tended to grind their powertrain components into a costly oil-and-metal-shaving slurry. But they were maniacally cool in the late 1980s, and that's enough. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. Leaked images show digital gauge cluster for Mazda3
Wed, Mar 14 2018Most everything divulged about the 2019 Mazda3 so far has focused on the trick Spark Controlled Compression Ignition (SPCCI) Skyactiv-X engine. If a series of photos posted on a Chinese website are accurate, it looks like Mazda has novel plans for the cockpit as well. The three images show a three-color, all-digital gauge cluster in two different configurations. The first configuration places a three-digit speedo in the center of a blue-ringed tachometer, with gear indicator and water temp displays on the left, fuel range calculator and what appears to be a funky clock on the right. The second configuration splits the tachometer to the left and the speedo to the right. In between them is what looks like a road surface display for automatic cruise control. Trip info lies just under the blue-banded road, while water temp, fuel gauge, gear indicator and range info line up across the bottom. A swath of empty space on the left could be where Mazda's relocated the current car's passel of warning signals. Of note: Everything around the digital gauges appears to come straight from the current Mazda3. The instrument panel surround, the steering wheel and buttons, the stalks, all of it is lifted from today's car. If the photos are what's headed our way on some trim of the 2019 Mazda3, though, they show a clean, handsome evolution of the no-nonsense cluster in the current compact hatch. Mazda's worked up a head of good press on the run-up to the Mazda3 launch for both the engine and the dynamics. We're told we'll get between 10 and 30 percent more torque from the 2.0-liter SPCCI Skyactiv-X, and about 25 percent better fuel economy compared to today's 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G. Handling-wise, the jinba ittai philosophy — horse and rider as one — has led to engineers reworking everything from tire sidewall stiffness to multi-contoured torsion elements and the mounting and shape of the seats. The hatchback's torsional stiffness climbs by 30 percent, any excess rigidity countered by 7.5 meters of "matrix resin material" applied in 16 places on the body "to absorb vibration and dissipate it as heat." The point has been to eliminate dynamic static between the driver and the road, and then to give the driver the best natural seating position to take advantage of the body's reflexes to dynamic input. At the same time, this digital gauge cluster might also give that driver something tasty to look at. Related Video:
Mazda RX-7 could return in 2020
Thu, Feb 19 2015We like writing about the next Mazda RX-7 because it's like writing about the Chupacabra, Slenderman, or the Florida Skunkape, all of which are imaginary creatures seen by someone who knew someone who had an uncle whose dead great-grandfather's sister took a picture of it, invariably at night, while she was drunk, with her 1933 Kodak Brownie. Autocar is the latest with an RX-7 revival, saying it could come as soon as 2020 to celebrate Mazda's 100th anniversary. Before we get to that, let's take a brief look at RX-7 rumors. In 2009 there was speculation we'd get a concept RX-7 at the Tokyo Motor Show. That same year it was predicted the RX-8 would die to make room for a new RX-7 in 2012. In 2010 Mazda was developing a 300-horsepower rotary for the RX-7 that could run on gasoline or diesel and had better fuel economy and less oil consumption. Then Autocar said we could get the new RX-7 by 2013, a rumor that turned into a new RX-9 based on the Mazda MX-5 Miata platform. In 2012 the potential arrival date had become 2017. In 2013 the company CEO Masamichi Kogai said the equivalent of "Not gonna happen," and he said it again last year, just 90 days ago. It should be clear by now that this car is Mazda's version of the Lotus Esprit. Whew. Now that we're clear on all that, what does Autocar say? That a follow-up to the extinct RX-8 is coming that will sit on the new MX-5 Miata platform, and Mazda's vice president of European R&D said there are still 30 engineers working on rotary engines in partnership with universities. The successor will be front-engined and rear-wheel drive, have either two seats or 2+2 seating, and could be called RX-6, RX-7, or RX-9. That sounds like three distinct statements, only one of which is definitely true, that could possibly just maybe add up to a new RX-7, but could even more likely add up to a rotary-engined concept car that never sees production. We've only got five more years to wait, and since we've been begging at the RX-7 doors this long...
