2016 Mazda CX-9 images leak online

We will get a complete look at the next-gen Mazda CX-9 during the big debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show within the next couple of days. Until then, these newly leaked images from Carscoops provide a great preview of the upcoming three-row model ahead of the event. These shots echo the design from the recent teaser sketch quite closely, but the headlights aren't as sharply defined on the real thing. The single photo of the front end largely hides the grille, but it appears to follow the shield-like styling of the latest CX-3 and CX-5. The two images of the rear show narrow taillights like the brand's other CUVs, but with a thin strip of chrome that runs over the hatch to visually connect both sides. Bulging fenders at both axles lend some extra toughness to the shape. The CX-9 looks to continue Mazda's recent knack for great interior design. The stylists finish the dashboard in a mix of copper and black, and metallic trim helps lighten things. The infotainment system rises from the center, and comfortable looking leather seats pick up the brown in the color scheme to lend a luxurious atmosphere. The leaked photos didn't come with any technical info about the CX-9. However, rumors suggests a powertrain with a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and all-wheel drive. More details should arrive during the crossover's imminent launch in LA.

Wards names its 2015 10 Best Interiors list

Wards Automotive has named the winners of its 10 Best Interior awards, covering a wide but affordable array of vehicles. Where last year's list contained two six-figure vehicles, including the $372,800 Rolls-Royce Wraith, this year's is, well, a whole lot more reasonable. The publication lists the Mercedes-Benz C400 at $65,000 (which seems off), making it the most expensive vehicle here. That said, we'd argue that the entire C-Class line deserves to make this year's list, owing to its varied and high-quality selection of materials. The other vehicle to break the $60,000 mark, meanwhile, is the $60,675 Ford F-150 King Ranch, which has 327,000 pounds of leather lining its interior. Only one other German car, the BMW i3, and one other pickup truck, the GMC Canyon, managed to make this year's list. Not only is there a distinct lack of luxury brands, it's the price of some of the vehicles that surprise. The Honda Fit, Jeep Renegade and Mazda6 are very reasonably priced, especially when you compare Wards price with the starting price. Mazda and Lexus crowned with KBB 5-Year Cost To Own awards

We report on a lot of awards, some of which are given out based on more solid criteria than others. This one, the Kelley Blue Book 5-Year Cost to Own awards, seems like one that new car shoppers should pay attention to.
The cost of a car goes far beyond what you pay for the actual metal, leather and rubber at the point of purchase. Fuel, insurance, maintenance and repair costs, and the cost of fees from the state and financing will all weigh on your wallet while you own the car. That's not even taking into account the biggest cost: depreciation, or the amount of money you lose based on what your car is worth years from now versus the day you bought it.
KBB tracks these sorts of things, and they've compiled a list of winners for 2013 models. On the brand level, Mazda and Lexus earn the 5-Year Cost to Own award for having the lowest overall projected five-year totals (though, curiously, we note that Mazda and Lexus each had only one segment winner). There are lots of winners for all the various segments, so we'll just pick out a few surprising ones to share and you can view the rest here.
