When is the last time you saw this iconic sports car on the road?! I was pretty excited to find this very special 1979 Mazda RX7. The gal I bought it from had owned the car since new, but when family matters (kids) got in the way, she parked the car around 1994. There it stayed garaged for 20 years until she decided to part with it.

The car is completely stock and unmodified. Still sporting it's shiny mostly original paint and black vinyl interior in excellent shape. This is a highly optioned car, fitted with sunroof, AC and auto transmission. 1979 is the first year of the RX7, and the only year in it's pure form. From 1980 RX7 received numerous revisions to the body and mechanical systems.

This is an unmolested car without any modifications whatsoever. The body is very straight and 100% rust free. It appears the passenger side fender was repainted at some point. Sunroof can be opened, or removed completely. Original storage pouch and wind deflector are present. New hatch struts. Windshield has a crack down low.

Interior is perfect with the only flaw being 2 tears in the vinyl seats. Dash is perfect. All electrical system is in working order, including AC. Engine starts right up and has plenty of power,  it smokes a bit upon cold startup, but clears up after a minute of driving. According to the research I've done this is quite normal for older rotaries, and does not pose a problem. Automatic transmission shifts smoothly through all gears, and really is quite sporty!

Original alloy wheels with a matching spare in the trunk. Tires are older, but have full tread and hold air just fine. Braking system has new master cylinder, brake pads and flushed with new fluid. Radiator has new hoses, coolant system flush and new fluid. Pressure tested and in good order. Car always holds good temperature regardless of driving condition. New alternator, all belts, spark plugs and a fresh oil change.

In short, this is a very original survivor, that is road ready and can be enjoyed as-is, or restored to full glory. My intent was to have the windshield replaced (quoted $150) and have the car painted, but plans have changed and I must concentrate on other projects. I hope this deserving car gets to a true enthusiast who will fully appreciate it. I have clear title in my name, and can arrange shipping anywhere in US if needed at buyer's expense. Thank you

Sell your own: 2004 Mazda RX-8

Fri, Jun 2 2017

Looking to sell your car? We make it both easy and free. Quickly create listings with up to six photos and reach millions of buyers. Log in and create your free listings. Combine "sports car" with "user-friendly" and, in most forums, you have yourself an oxymoron. Sports cars are – by definition – sporty, but rarely do they qualify as easy to use. One that did and, regrettably, has faded from the scene is Mazda's RX-8. Initially launched in 2003, and out of production within roughly a decade, the RX-8 was perhaps the rotary-powered answer to a question few – at the time – were asking. Happily, Mazda produced it anyway. With its front mid-engined platform, freestyle doors and +2 seating, the RX-8 came as close to offering day-in, day-out utility as anything this side of an extended-cab pickup. And its nod to practicality did little, if anything, to diminish the essential goodness of the menu. Mazda's design team provided a high-revving rotary, nimble handling and almost telepathic steering, combining them into a frenzy-filled dollop of locomotion. The result was no more than mildly fast and furious, but in properly motivated hands the RX-8 delivered a high level of entertainment for a relatively modest outlay. This for-sale example, a 2004 RX-8 with automatic transmission, requires just $6,000 and – not incidentally – the ability to buy into its premise. The automatic will be perceived by many to be a negative, but might also suggest a more gentle ownership history. And without benefit of a clutch and shifter, the new owner can concentrate on the driving, with the Mazda's absurdly direct steering and slot-car cornering. The asking price is on the high side (book average is about $5K), but know that similar cars might bring upwards of $8,000. And at 91,000 miles it's been used, but perhaps not used up. Mazda sketches Koeru concept ahead of Frankfurt show

Fri, Aug 7 2015

Mazda is giving us an early peek at the Koeru concept set to debut at the Frankfurt motor show. With a name derived from the Japanese word for "exceed" or "go beyond," the model is the latest evolution in the company's long-lived Kodo design language. Sketches tend to distort a vehicle's actual proportions, and the perspective on this one appears to be playing some visual tricks. Some things can't be hidden so easily, though. The Koeru appears to wear a more sharply angled version of Mazda's shield-shaped grille, and the headlights evolve the look of the CX-3 with an even narrower squint. The steeply raked rear hatch provides a coupe-like roofline, but we wonder if the angle is this pronounced in real life. Reports from last year suggest that a new CX-9 is on the way in 2016, and we could be getting a preview with the Koeru. Mazda is also purportedly developing a CX-7 successor. We should get a better idea if this show car represents either of those future CUVs when we can see it in the metal in Germany. MAZDA TO UNVEIL NEW CROSSOVER CONCEPT IN FRANKFURT Mazda Koeru features a distinctly powerful rendition of the KODO design theme Japanese carmaker aims to further raise benchmark in competitive SUV segment Hiroshima / Leverkusen, 7 August 2015. In a world premiere at the 66th 2015 Frankfurt International Motor Show (IAA), Mazda will reveal the Mazda Koeru, a new crossover SUV concept that makes a bold statement in an increasingly popular and competitive segment. Koeru, Japanese for "exceed" or "go beyond", is a fitting name for Mazda's latest venture into the growing crossover SUV market, where the company is again looking to surpass existing standards and raise the bar for performance, efficiency and overall value. With its formidable KODO – Soul of Motion design, the Koeru expresses the power and vitality of a predator along with a unique level of refined dignity. The full line-up of Mazda's latest SKYACTIV Technology, meanwhile, ensures outstanding dynamic performance, fuel economy and safety with no compromise to Mazda's patented driving fun. The carmaker will also display its new-generation model line-up in Frankfurt. Highlights include an all-new Mazda MX-5 complete with accessories as well as several SKYACTIV powertrains. Mazda's press conference takes place at 13:45 (hall 9.0, B16) on 15 September, the first of two press days. The IAA is open to the public from 17-27 September.

Fiat reconsidering Mazda-based Alfa Romeo roadster? [w/poll]

Mon, 03 Mar 2014

Alfa giveth and Alfa taketh away. With apologies to Job (he has gone through a lot, after all), that's how things are looking at the Italian automaker - whether it's the promise of new products or its impending return to the North American market. But it's especially true when it comes to new roadsters.
While Alfa Romeo is expected to unveil the 4C Spider at the Geneva Motor Show this week, reports are now suggesting that its other roadster project is being called into question. That project is a joint venture between Fiat and Mazda, which was set to produce a version of its next MX-5 Miata as an Alfa Romeo, and was even changing the design to accommodate Alfa's requirements.
Now it appears, however, that the whole project in doubt. The problem seems to stem from Sergio Marchionne's pronouncements that, as long as he's in charge, there won't be an Alfa Romeo built outside of Italy.
