2002 Mazda Protege 5 Vivid Yellow Custom Leather 5 Speed Price Reduced on 2040-cars
Saint Louis, Missouri, United States
"My Bee" has been a wonderful car for my wife for the last 5 years. We are actually the second owners as the first owner was actually the dealer who kept the car at their vacation home for a year. The second owner of record only put 9K miles on the car in the next 4 years. The exceptional condition of this gas sipping 4 cylinder wagon will please it's next owner. It has a smooth shifting 5 speed manual transmission, front wheel drive, power steering, and has a peppy engine which gets over 30 mpg on the highway. The A/C keeps you cool in the summer and the soft custom black/yellow leather seats will keep you comfortable all year. Custom floor mats and cargo mat were installed to protect the carpets and brighten the interior while matching the soft custom leather seats. A custom fitted plastic cargo tray is included in the sale but not pictured. Last year we replaced the front and rear brakes with Hawk HPS pads, Stoptech cross drilled rotors, and new braided lines. We replaced all of the struts with new Tokico HP struts and alignment. We also replaced the prior custom wheels with Stinger wheels and Hankook tires. All belts were also replaced at that time. The result is a wagon that handles like a dream without losing comfort and does it quietly. We invested in these items as we were going to keep the car for a long time but a change in jobs has made it necessary to buy a newer, larger, (and more expensive) wagon for my wife. All of the power options are in operating condition. The C/D changer skips and should be replaced but the stereo radio works fine. The interior door lock switch has moved slightly in it's channel (shown in picture of the interior drivers door) and still operates the locks well. A known problem with the Prot'eg'e is that the headlights (inexpensive) seem to blow out more often than most cars and is true with this Prot'eg'e. They are OK now. The exterior is in exceptional condition with a couple of exceptions. I pictured two small chips in the paint about the size of a pin head. One is on the driver side rear door and the other is on the edge of the driver side front wheel lip. I will touch these up before you buy the car. There is an area where the paint is scratched in front of the passenger front wheel. It is hard to see (even in the pictures in this ad) as most of it is below the visible part of the body. Again this will be touched up before the car is sold. My camera took great pictures but they are too large for ebay and these pictures were taken by my phone and are more grainy and less shiny. Contact me to get better pictures if needed. I am very picky about the looks and functionality of our cars and want to be honest about their condition. You will appreciate the condition of this car and enjoy it for years. The interior is beautiful with the custom leather being in excellent shape. There are no tears or scratches but only a very slight rubbed area in the crease of the drivers back and that is not really noticeable. The rear seat has some depressions in it from the baby seat but they are disappearing. Any questions...just give me a ring at 314-359-2002. I have priced it to sell fast so don't hesitate to call with your questions. Mick |

Ward's releases 10 Best Interiors list for 2014
Thu, 10 Apr 2014While we're still a ways off from the automotive awards season proper, where things like North American Car and Truck of the Year, Motor Trend's Car of the Year and Car and Driver's Ten Best are named, that doesn't mean there aren't trophies being handed out to deserving automakers. Ward's 10 Best Interiors being one of them.
As the name might imply, the magazine focuses on the very best interior treatments in the US market. Whereas some awards purposely exclude extreme, high-dollar offerings, Ward's considers them - the only requirement is that a vehicle has a "new or significantly redesigned interior."
Ward's offered up the list of winners in simple, alphabetical order, and it only seems fair to do the same:
Will the Mazda2 be offered as a PHEV with a rotary engine range extender?
Thu, 10 Jul 2014Every few months, it seems a rumor crops up about plans from Mazda to revive the rotary engine. Last November, its CEO said the only way another one could happen is if the project was profitable, and then a month later the automaker showed off the Mazda2 RE Range Extender with a 330cc Wankel engine mounted in the rear. Now, Australian auto site Motoring reports that the PHEV may actually make production in the next-gen Mazda2 sometime after it's initial launch.
Martin Benders, managing director of Mazda in Australia, spoke to Motoring about the company's future with hybrids and basically reiterated what the CEO said last year. The Japanese automaker only plans to offer electrified powertrains in places where they can sell in sufficient numbers to be profitable, like Japan.
Mazda has been playing with the rotary range-extender idea for years. In the RE prototype, the engine was exclusively used to charge the lithium-ion batteries when they were running low, and a 100-horsepower electric motor provided all of the propulsion. It gave the little hatch an estimated range of about 250 miles. The company reportedly took inspiration from its Skyactiv engines to make the Wankel have lower friction and a lighter weight.
50 engineers kept the rotary alive at Mazda for 8 years
Fri, Oct 30 2015The Mazda RX-Vision concept is one of the standouts at this year's Tokyo Motor Show thanks to a drop-dead gorgeous design and a revival of the Wankel engine. The fact that the rotary is still in development at Mazda is thanks to a dedicated group of 50 engineers. According to Automotive News, their dream for the last eight years has been to bring this storied engine design back to the street. It won't be easy. Because of its design, the rotary suffers from poor fuel economy and high emissions. Making the challenge even harder, Mazda reportedly only gives them a small budget, but they continue to chip away at the problem. "These 50 engineers want to develop the rotary engine, therefore they joined Mazda," company research and development boss Kiyoshi Fujiwara told AN. "If I stop the rotary engine, probably they want to leave." For the Skyactiv-R under the RX-Vision's svelte hood, the team reportedly started from the 16X rotary project. Dating back to 2007, that 1.6-liter engine was supposed to improve torque and fuel economy thanks in part to direct injection. After additional development, insiders even suggested that the engineers might have finally solved the powerplant's issues. However, Mazda never put the mill into production, and the RX-8 remains the company's last Wankel-powered model to be offered in showrooms. "We have a dream that one day, this design with a rotary engine will achieve a level that customers will accept," CEO Masamichi Kogai said to AN. Mazda is quite clear that the RX-Vision might never go on sale without a suitable rotary. Although if it does see production, the coupe would likely use a stiffened version of the Miata's chassis, AN reports. Before anyone can place an order, these 50 determined engineers still have a lot of work ahead of them. Related Video:
