Owned over 4.5 years.

Bought in Memphis, flew in and drove it back to NYC.

Garaged in NYC since I have owned it.
Was garaged previously in Memphis.
Only driven in warm weather, never in snow, very rarely in rain.
Obviously not damaged during hurricane Sandy. I live in Ridgewood, Queens, which is up on a ridge...get it?...and the car was garaged.

Clean AutoCheck.

99K miles, three owner car.
I have put around 11K miles on this car in 4.5 years. Why so low? I take the subway to work and back every day. This car got out mainly on the weekends, and for trips with my wife.

-1997 M edition (the green one)
-Factory hard top with defrost.
-Factory 97M wheels
-factory spare
-factory tonneau cover
-factory jack
-factory M Edition floor mats (original mats!)
-good condition factory soft top, small repair in window by previous owner (does NOT leak ever, rarely driven in rain)

This car was loved by me and built over the period of 3 years.
The goals of the build were (in order)
* Reliability
* Performance
* Original looks

* Comfort

Here are the modifications that I can think of at the moment:

I have receipts in a three-ring binder.

-Flyin' Miata FMII GT2560 turbo kit professionally installed last April by Bulldog Motorsports in NJ
-Dyno tuned and road tuned in Pennsylvania by the legendary Ken Hill @ Oracle tuning (Yes I drove 4 hours to have it tuned)
-Hydra 2.7 ecu
-239whp/217tq @ 12psi (245whp/222tq uncorrected) This car has never gone over 12psi. There is no need. This car is extremely quick.
-Engine never opened, good compression across every cylinder
-Penzoil Platinum Pure Synthetic every 2-3K miles
-Tranny fluid changed
-Diff fluid changed to Amsoil
-Coolant system flushed and changed
-New CAS
-New PCV valve
-Powder coated cam cover with new gasket (original cover included)
-Magnecor wires and 1 step cooler platinum plugs
Timing belt changed by previous owner prior to purchase but not water
pump---so I changed both of them again at around 88K miles

-Never tracked or autocrossed (no roll bar)
-Mazdaspeed engine mounts
-Factory LSD
-FM stage 1 clutch with lightened flywheel (less than 4K on it)
-Koni adjustables yellow shocks
-FM springs (original springs included and functional)
-FM Sways (original sways included and functional)
-FCM bumpstops
-FM Wilwood BBK front/rear (originals included and functional)
-Stainless brake lines
-Yokohama S-Drive tires new
-Full magnaflow stainless exhaust with high flow FM CAT
-Mishimoto radiator
-STUNNING mint new leather seats with factory "M Edition" embroidery
-Dynamat doors and trunk
-gas hood struts
-Clearwater headrest speakers (originals included)
-Polk door speakers under factory grills
-Kenwood head unit with iPod input and removable face (original stereo included and mostly works)
-blk Voodoo aluminum shift knob was there when I bought it
-Custom black powder coated steel center console with gauges
-A/F and boost gauges mounted low to avoid "boy racer tuner" look
-A/c delete

Much more I am probably forgetting
--Cruise works perfectly (I fixed it)
--Power antenna works (I fixed it with a new one)
--power windows work
--headlights work
--Everything works (if it didn't, I fixed it)

--Underside perfectly clean. Will try to get it on a lift soon for some pics.
--Two small bubbles on the rear right rocker in front of the wheel. One bubble on the left rear rocker panel. Hard to see, harder to photograph.  This is exactly how I got it 4 years ago, and no worse. I just left it alone. Hard to see. No other other bubbles/rust etc. It was a Southern car before I got it.

Very reliable. No break downs ever. Never fails to start. Hilarious, but this is my "reliable" car." Idles fine
Daily driver, extremely fast but comfortable. True dual purpose car.
If you wanted to drive it from NYC to LA, I would say it is a shame you couldn't ship the hardtop so you could put the top down.

I am serious.

I drove this, with my wife, from NYC to Myrtle Beach last summer in July when it was 99 degrees.
In stop and go traffic for three hours on I-65 south.
Temp never went above halfway (it never moves from there, ever) and car drove great for 1500 miles. Got 29mpg to boot!

This car has been driven to West Virginia, CT, Mass., Maine, Rhode Island, Ohio, Virginia, North Carolina, etc. and regularly makes trips of 100-200 miles. It is reliable.

Comes with almost all original parts if you want them, including ECU, so you could put it back to stock for emissions testing if necessary.

If you are an amateur driver, a teen, a "tuner" guy looking for a bargain, I will not sell this car to you. This is not the car for you.

So why am I selling this car?

I've owned this car for 4.5 years,, and loved every minute of it. It is my second Miata. But living in NYC, combined with the fact that all of my photography gear has outgrown the trunk (and passenger seat) means that it is time to move on to something else. I have a Mazda wagon for the DD in NYC.

That is it. I am not losing garage space. I am not desperate.
I am sad to sell this car.
Like I said, I have receipts for everything.
You would be hard pressed to duplicate this car for less than at least $20,000.

Buy-it-now and I will throw in a perfectly fine HP 6535b laptop with battery, A/C adapter, and the cable to hook up to the Hydra so you can...well...do whatever you want. I will also include a stainless-steel, made for the Miata luggage rack which cost $239. A superb piece of kit.
This is ONLY WITH THE BUY-IT-NOW.

THE CAR IS TUNED AS IS.

You do not need to "tune it," it was tuned by the best of the best.

Sure you can find many cheaper, but try to find one better.

No low-ball offers, please, this is not a low-ball offer car.

Tue, 10 Dec 2013

The 2014 North American International Auto Show is right around the corner, which means it's high time we found out which cars and trucks would be finalists for the prestigious North American Car and Truck/Utility of the Year awards.
The finalists - three in cars and three in three trucks/utilities - are dominated by American brands, with two-thirds of the finalists hailing from either General Motors or Chrysler (don't worry Ford, there's always next year), while outliers from Mazda and Acura can be found in each contest. Here now is the list of finalists for the big prizes:

Volkswagen's latest ad is not subtle | Autoblog Podcast #509

Fri, Mar 24 2017

On this week's podcast, Mike Austin and David Gluckman are joined by special guest James Riswick, who has been driving a lot of new cars lately. All of them are discussed, plus a few more from Mike and David, and Mike rants a bit about a new VW Atlas commercial. The episode wraps up with the traditional doling out of Spend My Money buying advice, during which David briefly goes out into left field. (He's back now, don't worry.) The rundown is below. Remember, if you have a car-related question you'd like us to answer or you want buying advice of your very own, send a message or a voice memo to podcast at autoblog dot com. (If you record audio of a question with your phone and get it to us, you could hear your very own voice on the podcast. Neat, right?) And if you have other questions or comments, please send those too.
