Why you should get a 2001 miata as apposed to all other years.

1. The 2001 has variable valve timing which increases low end torque and slightly more horsepower. Really increases its responsiveness.
2. Older miata's are missing lots of supports which increased the stiffness.
3. It is the first generation of the nb2 models which means it is the lightest.
4. Has redesigned head gasket for better cooling.

EDIT: Car suffered some rear bumper damage! Quote is $1000 to fix.

Rebuilt at 99500 miles and now has 101000, stronger rods and pistons were put in.

Fully rebuilt engine, bought it when it was burning oil at 99k miles, the car is too small for me.
It was burning oil because previous owner over tightened spark plug and part of it chipped and fell into cylinder 3.
It was completely smoothed out with only .5mm bore and hone. The threads for that plug were re done.

good:
driver/passenger air bag with off switch
factory top in perfect condition, rear defroster
projector headlights
foglights
torsen limited slip diff
has AC, power steering, bose sound system, electric windows, windshield nozzles
tires 90%
roof very good condition
variable timing works
rides very smooth
lots of other new small things like front o2, coolant temp, maf.
all electrics work great
All new silicone vacuum and oem coolant hoses
brakes are great, as well as the handbrake

bad:
some of the hood paint is faded, only noticable form certain angles
front bumper has a chip
driver seat mesh is torn
driver door handle area is chipped
clutch chatters in first gear slow speed
Had plans to turbocharge it so I had installed the intercooler, can easily be taken off
small chip in glass at windshield mirror, was sealed and hasn't spread.

Fri, Mar 24 2017

On this week's podcast, Mike Austin and David Gluckman are joined by special guest James Riswick, who has been driving a lot of new cars lately. All of them are discussed, plus a few more from Mike and David, and Mike rants a bit about a new VW Atlas commercial. The episode wraps up with the traditional doling out of Spend My Money buying advice, during which David briefly goes out into left field. (He's back now, don't worry.) The rundown is below. Remember, if you have a car-related question you'd like us to answer or you want buying advice of your very own, send a message or a voice memo to podcast at autoblog dot com. (If you record audio of a question with your phone and get it to us, you could hear your very own voice on the podcast. Neat, right?) White House clears way for NHTSA to mandate vehicle black boxes

Fri, 07 Dec 2012

At present, over 90 percent of all new vehicles sold in the United States today are equipped with event data recorders, more commonly known as black boxes. If the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gets its way, that already high figure will swell to a full 100 percent in short order.
Such automotive black boxes have been in existence since the 1990s, and all current Ford, General Motors, Mazda and Toyota vehicles are so equipped. NHTSA has been attempting to make these data recorders mandatory for automakers, and according to The Detroit News, the White House Office of Management Budget has just finished reviewing the proposal, clearing the way. Now NHTSA is expected to draft new legislation to make the boxes a requirement.
One problem with current black boxes is that there's no set of standards for automakers to follow when creating what bits of data are recorded, and for how long or in what format it is stored. In other words, one automaker's box is probably not compatible with its competitors.
