This terrific 2001 Mazda Miata has been garaged, cared for, and has just the right upgrades making it, in my opinion, the perfect Miata.  If you want a Miata that has all of the goodies and none of the abuse, this is the car that you have been looking for. Highlights include:

++ Original paint, body, and leather (always garaged)
++ $550 Brand new Dunlop tires with less than 2k on them
++  $3,195 S1 Bell Engineering Turbo System (not including installation + $1,800) – Arguably the best, no fuss, conservatively tuned turbo for Miata with lots of upside potential for the enthusiast.
++  $602 Racing Beat high performance exhaust recommended by Bell Engineering
++ $1,600 SSR Gun Metal Grey aluminum racing rims
++ $275 JVC Bluetooth Deck wired into OEM Bose Speakers
++ $200 Chrome double hoop roll bar
++ High performance clutch, engine bay strut bar, & billet (parking brake, shift knob/set, gas-fill)

A simple roll-up of just the major value add enhancements (not including installation) is:
$6,422

Kelly Blue Book for this Mazda without aforementioned enhancements is $7,197

Asking price: $8,500

This vehicle has the OEM ECU allowing it to pass smog and emissions without any issue whatsoever. The S1 Turbo brings just the right amount of power and daily driving characteristics that BEGI is known for. The stock Miata comes with 142 HP and the S1 in its current conservative configuration adds another 50 HP (or 35%) bringing this little roadster to life.  I have never found the need, but according to Bell Engineering, the S1 turbo is capable of producing 230 – 280 HP with an upgraded ECU.  See the link below for details. The build out for this car was done by Bell Engineering in central Texas. This car has spent its life in Austin Texas until our recent move to the Memphis TN area.

This car has 2 flaws and is otherwise impeccable. The flaws are:

1. A small tear in the convertible top at the bottom right hand corner of rear window (see pics).
2. A small tear in the passenger seat also shown in the pics.

Outside of the two aforementioned flaws, this is an amazing roadster - one that has never seen abuse and is very well cared for.  Our growing family and newly adopted Mastiff requires for me to part with this fine Mazda. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Which car companies are creating new jobs in America?

Fri, Sep 22 2017

Since January, automakers have announced investments totaling $9.5 billion in U.S. plants, creating or retaining more than 12,000 jobs. Some of those companies have yet to announce just how many jobs will be created given their investments, with the location of many of those jobs still to be determined. Specifically, the 4,000-job Toyota-Mazda joint venture plant still hasn't announced its location, with numerous states jockeying for it. Hyundai has plans to invest $1 billion but has not announced a jobs number yet. And likewise Ford is investing $1.2 billion in Michigan without specifying a number of jobs. Volvo this week announced plans to add a second line to its factory under construction in South Carolina, spending another $500 million and adding 2,500 jobs to the 2,000 it was already trying to fill. Then Thursday, Daimler announced a $1 billion expansion to its facility in Tuscaloosa, Ala., to produce EV batteries and electric SUVs, a move that will add 600 jobs to its hiring this year. Above, we've created a handy pie chart showing you which companies have announced new jobs and how many there will be. 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata First Drive [w/video]

Fri, Jan 30 2015

Hypothetically speaking, if you blindfolded me, put me in the car pictured above, and told me to hit the road, it would have taken me maybe two minutes to figure out that I was driving the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata. There are just certain facets about Miata driving that have been baked into every generation of Mazda's roadster, and it makes for a symbiotic relationship between car and driver that's truly unique. Sure, I could rattle off a list of cars that come close to offering the same sort of experience, but they just can't quite capture the same intrinsic Miata magic. Mazda knows its Miata is an incredibly special machine. Listening to the company's engineers and designers talk about the development of this fourth-generation ND model is fascinating. The attention to detail is astonishing, and every single person involved in the Miata program knows that the most important goal is to keep this car as true to its predecessors' ethos as possible. It cannot just be a great convertible, or even a great Mazda – it has to be a great MX-5 Miata. But the company did not just want to improve upon the third-generation NC Miata, which has been around since 2006. They wanted to tie the ND Miata's roots back to the original NA from 1989. Back in '89, the Miata was a less-powerful, 1.6-liter model with 115 horsepower and 100 pound-feet of torque. Mazda's team said they are proud of every version of the MX-5, but it's this specific, first-generation model that the company calls the "most right" – the most true to the idea of what a Miata ought to be. So that's why, before being allowed to attack the winding roads of the Spanish countryside in the 2016 MX-5, Mazda wanted me to spend some time with a cherry example of the original NA Miata: a Mariner Blue darling that, even with some 239,000 kilometers on its clock, still felt absolutely impeccable from behind the wheel. Light, responsive, and perfectly balanced, it was the original embodiment of the harmony between driver and car that Mazda wanted in every Miata. Mazda executives said they felt the first Miata was also the right size. So they chopped off three inches on the ND compared with the NC, and put it on a wheelbase that's been reduced by six-tenths of an inch. In fact, these dimensions mean the new Miata is more than two inches shorter in length than the original, and only two-tenths of an inch taller. In this day and age of ever-expanding waistlines and footprints, it's a remarkable achievement.

2014 Mazda6: June 2013

Mon, 15 Jul 2013

The 2014 Mazda6 is our most recent addition to the Autoblog long-term fleet, and we spent the month of June getting to know our Soul Red tester, generally enjoying the honeymoon phase of this twelve-month relationship. During June, the Mazda6 spent the majority of its time with director of photography Drew Phillips, who in addition to putting together this pretty gallery of our rakish long-term car, had a lot to say about it as a daily driver.
You see, not too long before Mazda delivered our long-term 6, Drew bought a 2014 CX-5 crossover to support his growing family. The CX-5 was the first vehicle to use Mazda's full suite of Skyactiv technologies, and we've generally enjoyed the good-to-drive CUV. A lot of that CX-5 goodness lies beneath the more shapely lines of this sleek Mazda6 sedan, so it's only fitting that Drew had a lot of comparisons between Mazda's two housemates during his month behind the wheel.
