I'm selling a rare and unique custom built 1995 Miata MX-5 that is right hand drive and is road legal in all 50 states. This Miata started off as a left hand drive car and was torn down and rebuilt using a front clip imported from Japan. The engine and manual transmission from the front clip in the car are estimated to have approximately 65,000 miles on them, while the rest of the car has around 85,000 miles on it. The title record shows over 100k miles - from everything I can tell, this is actually over 135k kilometers in reality. I believe the person(s) who titled the car before mistakenly read the odometer as being in miles, when it actually registers kilometers. All readings on the odometer and speedometer are in kilometers and and kilometers per hour and the odometer reads around 135,000 kilometers / 85,0000 miles right now.

The car is mostly stock inside with the exception of an aftermarket stereo and shift knob, along with a custom body kit and lowering springs.

NEW ITEMS ON CAR: Over the past couple of years, I added a matching hard top, rear spoiler, new struts and lowering springs, brakes and rotors all around, and rear calipers to the car. I also had most of the engine torn down and had over $3k in work done on the engine, as well as a new radiator, heater core, etc.

ISSUES WITH CAR: the front left caliper is sticking and needs replaced, the heating system does not work too well (I think the ducting needs to be hooked up properly behind the dash), the oil pressure gauge needs fixed, and the stereo system is not hooked up to the speakers. The overall car is in great shape and has a few minor rust issues on the bottoms of the doors and on a couple body seams. The paint needs some touches done to it as well - most issues with the paint seem to be in the top coat and I think a good buffing would remove most, if not all of the scratches, which were caused by by young boys running some toys along the body of the car. None of the scratches appear to go into the paint - they all appear to be on the top / clear coat. Valve cover gasket also has a minor leak in the rear - I've replaced this gasket within the past 5k miles, but it seems to have a small leak in it once again. It's not leaking a ton, but oil is seeping out some.

The seats are out of the car in the pictures due to interior cleaning and they will be in the car at time of purchase. I have a picture of the stock seats included.

I have over $9k in this car and am hoping to get at least $3500 out of it as it's very unique with being a right  hand drive. I'd love to get $6500 out of it, but I'll settle for $3500 if that's what it goes for. My plan is to use some of the proceeds from this car to help with charity projects I am involved in.

Car has a clean Ohio title and is currently located in Johnstown, PA. Pick up and shipping are at the expense of the buyer. I am happy to assist with getting the car on a truck to get it delivered, but I will not cover the shipping costs.

Premium design and diesels: Mazda may be the next VW

Fri, Feb 10 2017

At the Chicago Auto Show, we had a chance to sit down with Jacob Brown, a Mazda PR representative, and Jacques Flynn, a lead exterior designer at the company, to talk about design and where the company is going. One of the themes of our discussion was the company's desire to move its lineup toward a more premium, upscale feel and image – both in terms of vehicle design and powertrains. We realized the company may be looking to take a page from Volkswagen's American playbook, positioning itself as a prime purveyor of affordable, upscale – and most importantly, fun to drive – automobiles. In the case of design, Flynn talked about how Mazda's KODO design language is going to evolve; that the goal is to simplify and refine the look. We discussed the CX-5 as an example of this evolution. Flynn pointed out that the goal was to add more refinement and simplicity, and showed how Mazda achieved this on the CX-5 by straightening the curves from the previous model to give it more visual length and a more taut shape. The grille also was given more depth and detailing, which isn't simplified per se, but does provide a more premium look. View 9 Photos Mazda's upcoming diesel engines are another piece to Mazda's premium puzzle. The company will finally offer a diesel on the CX-5. While Mazda planned not to use urea-injection, it finally resorted to the system so the engine could both meet performance benchmarks and emissions standards. In addition to the efficiency of the engine, Brown said that diesel engines have a premium nature for buyers. This is due in part to the luxury automakers that mainly offer them in the US, such as BMW and Mercedes-Benz, and to the fact that the technology will add some cost to the product. If all of this sounds familiar, it's because you know these characteristics used to describe Volkswagen: a company known for upscale, affordable cars, providing great driving dynamics – and formerly, for efficient and fun-to-drive TDI diesel engines. While we didn't touch on the driving experience of modern Mazdas in our interview, you can simply look at any of our reviews to see that we generally like what the company builds. The only downside is that we may have to wait a while for some models, and others may never show up here. Brown and Flynn both said that the Mazda2 is unlikely to be offered in the US as anything other than the Toyota Yaris iA, since it's hard to convince people that a subcompact is premium. No surprise there.

Next-gen Mazda MX-5 could use carbon fiber to cut weight

Fri, Jul 22 2016

The current Mazda MX-5 Miata has only been out for a few years, but the automaker is allegedly looking for ways to lighten the next one. According to a report from Autocar, Mazda is looking to carbon fiber to help the next-generation MX-5 cut weight and use a smaller engine. Despite having more safety features, modern amenities, and a stiffer body, the current MX-5 is the same size as the original sports car from 1990 and weighs less than its immediate predecessor. In a recent interview with Autocar, Nobuhiro Yamamoto, head of the Miata program, revealed that the next generation of the Miata will probably stay the same size, but could be even lighter thanks to the utilization of carbon fiber. The current MX-5 uses high-strength steel and aluminum, and Mazda doesn't use carbon fiber in any of its cars. Carbon fiber is expensive to incorporate into road-going vehicles, and so Yamamoto notes that Mazda has been hard at work making it more affordable. A lighter car could result in a smaller engine, Yamamoto said. In the US, the MX-5 comes with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 155 horsepower, while the Japanese and European version comes with a 1.5-liter, 130-hp engine. A smaller engine would make the sports car even lighter. It's unknown at this time if the automaker is collaborating with another automaker or a supplier to make produce carbon fiber, or if it'll make it in-house. There's no word on how much carbon fiber the next MX-5 will wear or how it will affect the sports car's price. Autocar reports that the next MX-5 won't arrive anytime before 2021, which could make the ND MX-5's lifespan an unusually short five years long. With cars getting heavier, it's nice to hear that Mazda is working on finding a way to make its lightweight sports car even lighter. Mazda will decide who gets the MX-5 RF Launch Edition, like it's Ferrari or something

Thu, Aug 18 2016

When Mazda introduced the 2017 MX-5 Miata RF at the 2016 New York International Auto Show, the vehicle came as a surprise. Everyone was expecting a new Miata variant, but no one thought it would be a retractable fastback, especially one that looks this good. Mazda listened to all of the positive feedback and decided to offer the same vehicle from the auto show as a limited-edition model. But you can't just go down to the dealer and place an order, at least for now. It's called the MX-5 Miata RF Launch Edition, only 1,000 of them will be made, and they'll go only to Mazda's "valued customers." Instead of opening up orders to anyone, Mazda took a page out of Ferrari's book and is extending invitations to customers through email. The chosen few will have a specific amount of time to preorder the limited-edition model before the automaker gives everyone the opportunity to buy one, assuming there are any left. You might remember that Mazda did a similar thing with the first ND Miata roadsters – the 2016 MX-5 Launch Edition went to the first 1,000 customers that placed orders on www.longlivetheroadster.com. The Launch Edition is painted Machine Gray with a black roof panel and has Auburn Nappa leather on the inside – the same combination as the debut car. Future MX-5 RF models will be available with the same paint and leather, but will miss out on the black roof and special badges. Launch Edition buyers will also get a numbered Tourneau watch with the vehicle, and will only have just one choice to make – manual or automatic transmission. (We know which we'd choose.) Pricing for the RF Launch Edition has not been released, but we expect the regular RF to come in a little higher than the roadster's $25,750 base price. The MX-5 RF will go on sale early next year.
