This is a 1994 Miata M-Edition with 84,000 miles. I am the 4th owner. The second owner drove it until the timing belt broke at the 83,000 mile mark then let it sit. The third owner bought it to repair, but didn't have time to, so I bought it from him. The body is perfect with absolutely no rust.
The following have been replaced:
o The Radiatior
o All radiator hoses
o Fuel Injector Harness
o Most Gaskets
o Timing Belt
o Engine Mounts
o Clutch Master Cylinder
o Clutch Slave Cylinder
o Fuel Tank (yes, the Fuel Tank)
o Starter
o Battery
o Radio
o Tires
o Vinyl Top
The air conditioning system was professionally repaired by Mazda of Wesley Chapel and is blowing cold air. The fuel injectors were removed, professionally serviced and flow tested and they are working like they're new.
Here are all the negatives:
o The leather seats are worn and need to be either covered or replaced. See picture.
o While installing the new cloth top, I inadvertantly drilled a hole through the top. I know, I was cursing myself for days. It's been patched and doesn't leak at all. I've driven the car in the rain and not one drop has come in. But, and you knew there was going to be a but, right? But, I tried to match the color of the repair to the top and I did a brutally awful job. Good thing it's small. See picture.
o The paint. I'm no paint expert, but I think it's a top (clear) coat problem. It looks like it peeled off the front fender (see picture), but the rest of the body looks good.
o Speakers - Their best days are behind them.
o Antenna - Top is broken and I believe it should retract, but it doesn't.
o Steering Wheel - is worn
Only 3,000 of these were made in 1994. According to a Miata websire, "the Mazda Miata M Edition series of vehicles are very desirable and sought after by Miata enthusiasts. Searching for a low mileage clean M Edition and finding one is to may like finding the ultimate Miata. Fairly expensive when first introduced, they can now be found priced as a regular used car, particularly if the seller has no idea what an M Edition is. Further, the well known used car resale value guides seem to somewhat under value what Miatas are actually trading hands for. Most clean Miatas will usually sell over blue book value, that's not to say you can't find one at a bargain price though. M Editions are not sequentially numbered and their VIN numbers will be scattered throughout the regular run for each year".
The 1994 M Edition was produced in Montego Blue Mica (color code M8) with tan leather interior, tan boot, and tan top. Special Features: Nardi wood shift knob and hand brake handle, polished 7 spoke alloy wheels with locks, air conditioning, stainless M Edition sill plates, M Edition custom mats, M Edition key ring/badge/lapel pin gift set, Includes all A and B package options which included: power steering, leather- wrapped steering wheel, power mirrors, alloy wheels, Torsen limited slip differential, cruise control, power windows, headrest speakers, power antenna.

Jay Leno celebrates Mazda Miata's 25th birthday
Mon, 10 Feb 2014Ask a car enthusiast what the best driver's car on the road is, and the Mazda MX-5 Miata is very likely to come up rather quickly. Unjustly saddled with a reputation as a "chick's car," the Miata has been, over its three generations, one of the finest driving instruments ever built - it's light, agile and rear-wheel drive with direct, snappy steering, an engine that revels in being revved and a precise, smooth-shifting transmission. The fact that it's ridiculously affordable and reliable is simply a bonus.
It should come as no surprise then, that a car with these traits has endured for 25 years, a milestone reached only by some of the most famous nameplates in the auto industry - Corvette, Mustang, F-150, SL, M3 and so on. To celebrate its 25th anniversary, Jay Leno spent some time with the little roadster that could, while also chatting with two of the Mazda employees that were central to the MX-5's arrival on the world's automotive scene, Bob Hall and Tom Matano.
Take a look below for the latest video from Jay Leno's Garage on the excellent Mazda MX-5 Miata.
Huet Brothers working on new Miata-based retro coupe
Wed, 14 May 2014Does the name Huet ring a bell? The Dutch brothers started out doing classic car tours in Europe before they started designed and building their own retro sports cars. The first was called the Huet Brothers Special. It was based on an old Triumph TR6 and surfaced back in 2009. But a few years later they started showing designs for a new coupe that called for a straight-six engine under a long bonnet with a fastback roofline, and started taking orders. Over the past two and a half years we didn't see anything materialize out of the Huet Brothers' plans, but word out of the Netherlands has it that the design is back on the table.
According to the Autovisie section of Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, Tino and Paul Huet were planning on building their coupe on the base of the MX-5 Miata. But now that Mazda is preparing to launch an all-new model, the Huets have decided to wait until next year and build their dream car on the new Skyactiv roadster chassis.
Rather than trying to shoehorn in a bigger engine (or the subsequent diesel model that was set to follow), the Huets are reportedly prepared to stick with Mazda's four-pot, offering it in stock form and various states of upgraded tune.
Mazda2 with extended-range hybrid rotary tech shown
Mon, 23 Dec 2013Every story dealing with a new rotary engine from Mazda lands in a different place on the matrix of possibilities between "Coming soon!" and "Never gonna happen!" In 2011 it was speculated that the rotary engineering program would be shut down with the demise of the RX-8, in 2012 the program was still alive and taking lessons from the SkyActiv engines, in August 2013 a Mazda insider said a rotary engine called 16X would be here in two years, in November the CEO said the only way we'd ever get a new rotary is if Mazda could sell 100,000 of them per year. Meaning that, for the moment, you can forget about it.
And yet, last month Mazda was putting journalists in a Mazda2 RE Range Extender, an electric car using a 0.33-liter rotary to power its lithium-ion batteries when the charge runs down. With a 75-kilowatt, 100-horsepower electric motor turning the front wheels, the Wankel generator and its 2.6-gallon gas tank living under the trunk double the range of the electric-only Mazda2 to 250 miles.
There's been talk of using a rotary to assist an alt-fuel vehicle for at least seven years, with Mazda pairing an electric motor with a rotary that ran on gas and hydrogen in a Mazda5 in 2007. Since then, almost all of those stories debating its return or demise also spoke of the oddball motor's advantages, such as compact size and ability to run on various fuels, as an aid in an unconventional powertrain.
