Get a jump on Spring! For sale is a 1992 Mazda Miata. The car is a 5-speed “A-package” with A/C , for those familiar with the option packages for that year, and features roll-up windows and manual door locks which I think adds to the appeal of a basic roadster.  The color is the desirable and less common Mariner Blue (the majority of Miatas of this vintage are red). This rust-free Miata currently has 62k (~3000/year) miles on it - it has always been stored in a garage, never driven in the snow, and rarely  driven in the rain. It has been completely stock since day one except for the style/roll bar which simply unbolts if the new owner wants to remove it (no interior panels were cut to install). The fenders, hood, doors, and trunk all have the original stickers that match the VIN.  I (certified small engine mechanic) am the 2nd owner of this car, the first owner was a middle aged adult, and he had the car for 11 years. This is one of the cleanest NA's you will see on the road – especially in the Northeast.  It runs like new, sounds great, and gets over 30 MPG. Top is intact, no rips, and the plastic rear window is also in excellent shape with no cracks and no yellowing.  Interior is also in very good condition with no cracks in dash or other parts, no tears in the seats, and good carpet, etc. There are a couple of very minor dings and small scratches here and there on the body as would be expected on a car of this age. The passenger lower rocker has a small dent up from the bottom - looks like the prior owner ran over a small rock – and you have to specifically look to see it. Everything works on this car – plenty of tread on the tires, plenty of life in the brake pads. Even the original radio is in place and it works. Clutch slave cylinder recently replaced. Some service records available including the original sales receipt.

I have to make room for other cars/projects and the Miata has to go. This is a beautiful car and it won’t last long – if you are looking for an original Miata, here’s your chance.

Car is for sale locally by word-of-mouth (and other means) and the listing may be cancelled at any time. I can take more pics of anything you want to see when the weather improves (currently in the middle of a snowstorm). I'll add some interior pictures this weekend - I'm stuck inside and I figured I'd list the car while I have the chance.

Did Mazda designer Derek Jenkins leave to head up a 'Stealth Project?'

Sat, Jul 25 2015

Not long after Derek Jenkins officially gave the 2016 MX-5 Miata to the buying world, he's left the Mazda building. Jalopnik reported that the head of design for Mazda North America changed the current job description on his LinkedIn profile to "Stealth Project." Mazda backed up the discovery with this reply to Jalop's inquiry: Derek left Mazda last Friday. He left on great terms in order to work on a new endeavor. We wish him the best of luck. He will be missed, but we are sure that he will do great things in the next chapter of his career. That "last Friday" would be July 17. Emphasizing the "stealth" bit in his new position, as far as we can tell, Jenkins still hasn't publicly answered any question about what he's doing. Every automaker has secrets, but traditional automakers usually make a hubbub about hiring big-name designers, especially one with Jenkins' resume. For his new employer to go all Ghost Recon with all information, well that's the kind of mystery this summer needs. The obvious culprit would be a certain fruit-named company in a certain Cupertino, CA office park. If that ends up being the case, Jenkins would be the second chief designer at Mazda NA to go electric: he replaced Franz von Holzhausen in the position after von Holzhausen went to Tesla. Various other Apple Project Titan hires have made the news, though. For all we know, Jenkins' project might not be automotive. So let's just go ahead and cue the speculation. We're looking forward to whatever he's got coming, and to whoever gets nominated to keep the full head of Zoom-Zoom going at Mazda NA.

From Maseratis to rental cars | Autoblog Podcast #511

Fri, Apr 7 2017

On this week's podcast, Mike Austin and David Gluckman are in a huddle room (again), because the studio was already taken (again). We talk about the all-wheel-drive Dodge Challenger GT (again), as well as the Jeep Wrangler, Maserati Levante, Miata RF (again), and then David waxes poetic on mediocre rental cars (or similar). The episode wraps up with the traditional doling out of Spend My Money buying advice, with some input from an S2000 owner on advice discussed last time. The rundown is below. Remember, if you have a car-related question you'd like us to answer or you want buying advice of your very own, send a message or a voice memo to podcast at autoblog dot com. (If you record audio of a question with your phone and get it to us, you could hear your very own voice on the podcast. Neat, right?) And if you have other questions or comments, please send those too. 44 Miatas engaged to spell happiness from above

Mon, 16 Jun 2014

We've seen all manner of ways to propose marriage, from the usual candlelit dinner to the Jumbotron at the big game. A friend of ours recently proposed with his a barbershop quartet singing backup. But this has to be a new one - and one that automotive enthusiasts would probably find even more touching than a sky-writing biplane.
A member of the Miata.net forum recently asked other MX-5 enthusiasts to help him pop the big question to his bride-to-be. He got 31 Miatas together and needed just four more, but after appealing to his fellow roadster fans, over 40 turned up in the parking lot at the local high school.
The groom-to-be runs an aerial photography business and used an unmanned drone which his girlfriend thought would be shooting some local real estate properties when it flew over the parking lot and captured the image you see above with 44 little roadsters spelling out "Marry Me?" The answer, in case you were wondering, was a resounding "Yes!" How could she not, after all, when those Mazda convertibles are just so darn adorable? Now they'll just need to figure out what they'll be driving to the chapel on the big day.
