1971 Maserati Ghibli 4.9L SS

Chassis No. AM115492302

Engine No. AM115492302

Body No. 100563

·         Rare & Desirable 335hp 4.9 Litre SS

·         Numbers-Matching as Per Maserati S.p.A. Certificate of Origin

·         A Masterpiece of style, balance, design and aerodynamic efficiency

·         Structurally Sound Throughout – Believed to Have 40K Original Miles

·         One of the most beautiful GTs ever conceived

In 1969 Maserati launched the Ghibli SS, a sportier version of its flagship coupe with the dry-sump 90° V8 now enlarged to 4.9 liters. Prodigious braking performance came from the two twin-servo assisted ventilated discs with three pistons per caliper. This transformed the Ghibli SS into the fastest and strongest preforming Maserati road car in production.

#2302 is a solid example of Maserati’s famed Ghibli 4.9 Liter SS Coupe, completed in July of 1971 by Officine A. Maserati S.p.A. The Ghibli is currently finished in an all Maroon livery, although this particular SS was originally outfitted in the most desirable dark blue over tan leather upholstery, with comforts worthy of such a thoroughbred GT: adjustable steering column, anti-theft steering lock, tinted & electric windows, reclining seats with head rests, heated rear windscreen, dashboard clock Panasonic AM/FM 8-Track and air conditioning. Long excursions are intended to be comfortable thanks to power steering and plenty of power on reserve from the 4.9 liter V8 motor. Maserati S.p.A. of Modena confirms with original Certificate of Origin that all chassis, engine and body numbers are matching as it left the factory.

Driven just over 40k miles since new, this U.S. spec coupe has been in the same collector owner care for the last several years and today makes for an exceptionally solid base to drive, or casually put back to original form. The Ghibli comes from long-term storage; our inspection confirms compression is high and consistent on cylinders - the car runs and drives as is, but we recommend a full assessment and tune-up prior to any vigorous or distant driving. The undercarriage appears structurally very sound and still retains some original undercoat. The older re-paint and upholstery redo have aged but still remain very serviceable as a “driver”.

Designed to compete with the Ferrari Daytona and Lamborghini Muira, the Ghibli is among the elite in the vintage supercar market and tremendously underpriced in comparison. This particular SS is sure to satisfy the true driver-collector connoisseur at a reasonable price with plenty of room for future restoration. Representing incredible value, we strongly recommend serious attention from collectors and enthusiast alike.

Marchionne wants Maserati to be FCA's new Ferrari

Fri, Jul 10 2015

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is gearing up to spin Ferrari, its most profitable brand, off into another company, and float its stock on the open market. That means it's going to need another profit-driver to generate income for the rest of the group. And according to its chief executive Sergio Marchionne, that mantle will soon be picked up by Maserati. FCA is betting big on Maserati, which has long stood as a niche marque with a limited array of models and low sales numbers. In addition to the recently introduced Ghibli and Quattroporte sedans – now crucially offered with diesels and all-wheel drive – Maserati is preparing to roll out the Levante crossover that promises to do for the Modenese marque what the Cayenne did for Porsche. Due in part to the success of its first crossover, Porsche turned itself from a niche sports car manufacturer into an immensely profitable automaker that was (nearly) capable of buying out the entire Volkswagen Group. Maserati's resurgence is part of a two-pronged assault FCA is plotting against its German rivals. Maserati will be charged with taking on the higher end of the Mercedes, BMW, and Audi ranges (from the E-Class, 5 Series and A6 upwards). Meanwhile, Alfa Romeo will go after the lower end of the luxury spectrum with the new Giulia (aimed at the C-Class, 3 Series and A4) and other models to follow. FCA aims to turn Maserati and Alfa Romeo (along with Jeep) into global brands, broadening the narrow geographical appeal they have held until now. In order to generate enough profit to support the rest of the group as Ferrari has, Maserati will need to find a way to increase its profit margins. Bloomberg reports that Ferraris command a 13-percent profit margin, and while the ten percent that Maseratis list for is still triple that of the FCA average, slow sales are forcing some dealers to offer deep incentives that cut significantly into that margin. All future Maseratis will borrow styling cues from the MC20

Thu, Sep 10 2020

Maserati's recently-unveiled MC20 coupe points to the direction stylists will take the rest of the company's range in during the 2020s. Its proportions will remain unique – the company isn't about to make the family-friendly Levante mid-engined – but its front end and its pure, simplified approach to design will permeate other models. "The face of the MC20, with the low-mounted grille and the headlights positioned much higher on the fascia, is our new design language," affirmed Klaus Busse, the head of the company's design department. He added it's a look that draws inspiration from past models, including the limited-edition MC12 built between 2004 and 2005. Lighting technology has evolved considerably since the middle of the 2000s, so designers and engineers are now able to use LEDs to give Maserati's future models a more distinctive-looking face, especially at night. Autoblog understands the second-generation GranTurismo scheduled to make its debut in 2021 will be the first MC20-inspired model. Its styling cues will also influenced the Grecale, a smaller SUV positioned below the Levante and possibly related to the Alfa Romeo Stelvio. Maserati's aim isn't to end up with a range of nesting doll-like models that all look the same, so expect to see variations of the MC20 theme as the line-up develops. Busse also shared insight about how his team shaped the MC20 (pictured). Early on, he insisted the car shouldn't receive oversized air inlets or a park bench-sized wing on the back. His team consequently integrated all of the components that create downforce below the axle line, which runs through the middle of the wheels. It's a pure, simple approach to design that will characterize future models, meaning they'll be sporty in a subtle, elegant way. Related Video:

2021 Acura NSX leads this month's list of discounts

Tue, Nov 9 2021

The 2021 Acura NSX is an especially good deal this month. Not only does it carry the torch as the vehicle with the biggest discount measured by the percentage off its sticker price, that discount is also the largest of any vehicle currently sold in the United States when measured in sheer size. Here are the numbers: The average sticker price of all 2021 NSX models sits at $161,040. Buyers are paying an average transaction price of $142,907. That equals a discount of 11.3%, or $18,133 of savings. No other vehicle comes close to that kind of discount, with the next largest being for the 2021 BMW 7 Series. Buyers of that luxury sedan are saving an average of $11,661 for a transaction price of $94,884. There's another sharp dropoff after the BMW. In third place is the 2021 Maserati Quattroporte, which actually kicks off a party of savings at Trident dealers across the United States. The '21 Quattroporte is seeing $7,743 cut off its sticker price for an average transaction of $121,962. After that comes the 2021 Maserati Ghibli, which is averaging $7,394 off for a sign-on-the-dotted-line price of $78,592. If you don't want a sedan, the 2021 Maserati Levante's $6,738 discount equals an average transaction price of $78,592.
