The Spyker C8 Spyder is powered by a mid-mounted, 400hp, 4.2 liter, aluminum
V8 redlined at 7500rpm. The engine drives the rear wheels and it can achieve a maximum speed of 190 mph. The curb weight is very light at just 2750 lbs. The gearbox is a manual 6-speed. The signature Spyker interior detail is an exposed, polished shift linkage. Koni supplies the shocks, which are race inspired, inboard mounted,
pushrod actuated coilovers. They are
adjustable for compression and rebound while the suspension can be adjusted for ride height, caster, camber and toe. The nature of the adjustments mean that you can make the car behave any way you want. Like the trick suspension, the brake, clutch and gas pedals are mounted to the floor in an aluminum race style pedal
box, including a dead pedal to the far left for resting your clutch leg on longer trips. The body panels are entirely formed in aluminum and feature many neat details like the raw finish, polished mirrors where the door latches hide, air intakes and grilles. The brakes are by British company, AP Racing. The calipers are 6-piston and the rotors are two pieces, with slotted steel rotors attached to lightweight aluminum hats to reduce unsprung weight. The forged aluminum 18" wheels and steering wheel feature the airplane propeller design, which is a nod to the company's past as not only a manufacturer of automobiles but of aircraft and aircraft engines during the late 19th and early 20th centuries Bespoke is the one word that most accurately describes Spyker. No two exactly are alike. Different materials and any exterior and interior color you can think of are available. Our example features a gloss black exterior with diamond stitched brown leather interior, dash and door panels. Maserati planning second smaller SUV?
Sun, 16 Dec 2012Maserati's product plans have taken a few wild turns, but as we get closer to production dates for the long-awaited offerings things are getting a wee bit clearer. The the sixth-generation Maserati Quattroporte is here, and a quick recap according to a report in Car and Driver has the smaller Ghibli sedan on Chrysler's LX/LY platform next, then the next-generation GranTurismo coupe and cabrio on a Maserati platform, then the Kubang SUV concept (pictured) that, for production, will become the larger Jeep-Cherokee-based Levante SUV.
All of which gets us to 2015. That same year, according to the report, the Levante will get a brother: a smaller SUV or crossover, perhaps sized like the Kubang concept, to challenge the Audi Q5 and the Porsche Macan. It is predicted to use the Compact US Wide platform, built for front-wheel and all-wheel-drive vehicles, that supports the Dodge Dart and 2014 Alfa Romeo Giulia. In addition to giving the premium brand a competitor in what is a very popular segment, a Maserati move slightly downmarket can help fill a gap while Fiat brass figures out what to do with Lancia.
Maserati adding two more high-performance Trofeo models to the lineup
Mon, Jul 27 2020Two years ago, Maserati introduced its first high-performance Trofeo trim level to the 2019 Levante crossover. With its 590-horsepower twin-turbo V8, it became the most powerful Maserati in the lineup. It seems it will have company soon, as Maserati teased on Twitter the addition of Ghibli and Quattroporte Trofeo sedans. Besides announcing the new models, the company released a single teaser image and a reveal date. We can infer some things based on the existing Levante Trofeo, though. The Quattroporte Trofeo will undoubtedly get the same 590-horsepower V8, since it already has a low-output 523-horsepower version of the engine. The Ghibli could possibly get the V8, too, since it shares its basic underpinnings with the other two cars. Having a 590-horsepower compact sports sedan would be quite the feather in Maserati's cap, since it would outgun everything else in the segment. That being said, even lower-output versions of the V8 in the Ghibli would be exciting. These Trofeo models will also let the world know they're the fastest versions of their respective nameplates. The Levante Trofeo features the most aggressive bodywork of any Levante, and that will surely translate to the sedans. Hopefully Maserati will also see fit to provide the Trofeo sedans with upgraded suspension and brakes to handle the extra power. We should have most of the details soon. 2013 Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale gets its groove, seats back
Wed, 06 Mar 2013The Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale was exclusively a two-seater, but here in Geneva, the big Italian coupe gets its rear thrones back. We don't know if the addition of rear passenger space will help improve sales of this special trim of the aging GT, but it's at the very least an excuse for Maserati to shine a few lights on its gorgeous two-door.
Under that rakish carbon fiber bonnet is the same Ferrari-sourced 4.7-liter V8 we've loved for years now, tuned to 460 horsepower in this application and mated to Maserati's MC Race Shift six-speed automatic transmission. Other updates for the MC Stradale include new 20-inch alloy wheels and a smattering of new materials inside the cabin.
