Ken Block's Gymkhana 8 to feature Dubai Police cars?

Yesterday we showed you the shiny Ford Fiesta that Ken Block will slide, spin, and hoon through the next Gymkhana video. In case the image above isn't clear, that video will drop at midnight EST on February 30th on the Ford Performance YouTube channel. We don't know all the entire premise of the video yet, but this Tweet from the man himself reveals that the video will be set in Dubai. Block is standing on the Fiesta we saw yesterday, and arrayed behind him are a handful of those famous Dubai Police cars you're probably familiar with. The force has a fleet of sportscars and supercars, and the purpose is outreach and goodwill among its citizenry, not necessarily the pursuit of criminals. This content is hosted by a third party. From left to right, we can see a Maserati GranTurismo, Porsche 911, what looks to be a Nissan GT-R obscured by Block's Fiesta, a McLaren (likely a 650S), Ford Mustang, and a Ferrari 599 of some ilk. Will they take part? Maybe Block will try and run from what might be the most horsepower-intensive police fleet in the world. Maserati CEO says new Alfieri will finally make Geneva in 2020

Maserati's long-delayed Alfieri will be shown at Geneva a year from now, says company CEO Harald Wester. The Alfieri will be the model to replace the GranTurismo coupe, the production of which is expected to end later this year as Maserati's Modena plant is overhauled and retooled for the new car. Autocar reports that Wester placed the Alfieri's reveal for Geneva 2020, but that series production will not begin until 2021-2022. Earlier reports had timed the Alfieri pre-production to begin in early 2020, in time for Geneva. The Maserati lineup will be significantly updated in the near future, and will feature extensive electrification, from mild hybrids to fully electric vehicles. "Any product we touch or make will have significant electrification," Wester told Autocar. "The main launches for new products are in 2021-22, and by the end of 2022 we will have a completely new range. For each and every lineup, we will have a full battery electric version. Not only that but at least one." Future models will also include updated versions of Ghibli, Quattroporte and Levante. The Alfieri was originally shown as a concept in 2014, but the delays have forced the 2008-introduced GranTurismo to soldier on. When the Alfieri finally comes, however, it will do so as a PHEV, a mild hybrid and a full electric version. Maserati is also adamant it will build electrified sports cars profitably. "Maserati is one of the few brands who can sell cars at the cost and reality of the technology and still make money," said Wester. Related Video:

2017 Maserati Levante wraps Italian style around an SUV

Maserati has a glittering history that dates to 1914. It's based on gorgeous sports cars, decadent sedans, and a rich motorsports heritage. Now comes a new chapter: the first Maserati sport-utility vehicle. Called the Levante, it will debut next month at the Geneva Motor Show and launch in Europe in the spring. The rollout will continue around the world throughout 2016. Maserati says the Levante will have gasoline and diesel engines, though it didn't specify what's under the hood for US-bound models. It will be assembled in Turin, and the company says the first units are already in production. Details are slim as far as the rest of the specs, but Maserati says the Levante will have an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive capability. We also hear that serious off-road performance is one of the Levante's capabilities. The Levante carries many of the brand's styling cues, and the grille, curvy fenders, headlight shape, and vents will fit in with the rest of the brand's products, like the Ghibli and Quattroporte. Maserati joins Bentley, Rolls-Royce, Lamborghini, Porsche, and other traditional sporting brands that have added SUVs to their portfolios in an effort to remain relevant and capitalize on new revenue streams.
