2000 Black Toyota Mr2 Spyder (15,000 Miles On Replacement Engine) on 2040-cars
Alexandria, Virginia, United States
This is a 2000 Toyota MR2 Spyder in overall very good condition. It is in excellent condition mechanically. See the flaws listed in the Condition Description above. The Good Stuff is it had an engine replacement about 13,000 miles ago (see invoice copy in pics. I will send a better copy to the winning bidder) (The mechanics felt the cause was negligence by the previous owners, but who knows). There are no fluid leaks, AC is great, glass defrosted rear window, power locks, windows and mirrors, CD player (single). It runs great, no clutch issues. I change the oil and other fluids myself. I really do like this car, but I have it and a 2001 Jeep Wrangler. I need to get a practical vehicle. The MR2 has very limited storage space. If you aren't familiar with the vehicle, check out www.spyderchat.com to learn everything you want to know. I won't go into all the details about it's handling ability, fuel economy, etc. That info is readily available on the link I provided and a lot of other places on the net. It is a LOT of fun to drive! The wheels are after market, old and need refinishing. I bought them off Craigslist on the cheap just to have something because the ones that were there when I got the car just had to go. They are 17s with 205s on the front and 225s on the rear. The overall paint polishes up pretty well, but a 13 year old car has paint dings. Buy with confidence. I describe things accurately, and there are no surprises. A $500.00 non-refundable deposit is due at the auction's end (within 48 hours). The remainder is to be paid by cash, certified check drawn on US bank or bank to bank wire transfer within 7 days of auction's end. I will release the clear title immediately for cash, or mail the title to you when the certified check clears or wire transfer has completed. NOTE: The engine replacement invoice shows only the labor cost associated with the replacement ($1,430.33), as an aftermarket warranty company provided the motor (LKQ remanufactured...this was quite a battle between the garage and the warranty company since they wanted to just send a used replacement, and the garage fought for a remanufactured and won. Great garage! The list price of the engine on the warranty co.'s paperwork was just over $2,700.00, but they paid for that I'm happy to say. Do NOT bid on this car if your funding has the potential to mysteriously disappear. If you don't intend to pay, keep your distance. Enough unpleasantness now. Check out the video: |

2014 Maserati Ghibli S Q4 [w/video]
Wed, 12 Mar 2014For one reason or another, this is a car people stare at. They might be drawn to its curvaceous shape riding on immense wheels. They could be intrigued by its gaping, blacked-out grille which houses an equally outsized trident logo, or doing quick calculations about the last time they saw a car wearing the name Maserati. It may be its sports-car-like proportions mixed with achingly long, four-door bodywork that draws their eye.
Or, and I urge you to consider this theory carefully, the people taking notice of this Maserati Ghibli S Q4 might simply be newly alert after hearing the sound of its exhaust ricocheting off any solid thing nearby as I drive past grinning like a certified asshat. Did you hear an Italianate engine song careening through your Ann Arbor, MI neighborhood, in the black of the early morning, just a few weeks previous? Sorry, guy, that was probably me.
I spent a week hammering this all-wheel-drive Ghibli as hard as I dared in the last truly miserable stretch of the God Awful Winter of 2014. I can honestly say that I enjoyed myself, shocked at both the frank way this new challenger luxury car went down the road as well as the attention it garnered in the process.
2017 Maserati Quattroporte First Drive
Fri, Jul 15 2016When German companies launch a new luxury sedan, they chat about more power, better economy, and leveraged links to Silicon Valley's hottest microchip and graphics powerhouses. It's not like that in Italy. The Mediterranean peninsula only has one authentic maker of luxury sedans, and cutting-edge consumer technology has never been Maserati's forte. Beautiful cars, sure. Compelling engine notes, yup. The prioritization of handling emotion above cornering speed and even ride quality? Absolutely. Three years ago Maserati thought that blueprint would be enough for its all-new Quattroporte. It wasn't. For starters, the car wasn't beautiful. Compared to the filigreed purity of its predecessor, the QP (as they call it in Modena) looked awkward, even clunky. A big part of that was the sheer scope of the 124.8-inch wheelbase, which made it nigh impossible to deliver the proportional elegance and unfussed panel pressings of its predecessor. Still, the added length provided rear legroom that takes surveyors to measure. More important than what it had (and whether that was good or bad) was what it didn't have. There was no button on the remote to open the trunk, no self-parking system, no reversing camera, definitely no 360-degree camera setup, no radar cruise control, no semi-autonomous steering, and no modern navigation or infotainment. By far the biggest Maserati (at 207.2 inches, it dwarfs most of the standard versions of almost any sedan, anywhere), the Quattroporte now has some small visual changes and enough driver-assistance stuff (like radar cruise) to bring it up to German levels. At least, that's the on-paper argument. Not one of the 2017 model's visual upgrades is metallic. The changes include a new plastic grille (inspired by the design language of the Alfieri concept car), updated lights, and some very subtle differences between the sportier GranSport and the more luxurious GranLusso versions, two new trim packages. The aero guys have been busy, too, with a flat floor and a new Air Shutter that lowers drag by 10 percent and by itself improves the fuel consumption by three percent (anything else is down to stop-start). In a tech, tech, tech world, the Quattroporte is the anti-Tesla. There are no plans to give the big boy any form of hybrid power much less a plug-in hybrid powertrain. Maserati's engineers look at you funny for mentioning hydrogen fuel cell or battery-electric power.
Stirling Moss-crashed 1956 Maserati 450S to be auctioned in Monaco
Sun, 06 Apr 2014RM Auctions has some very special and expensive Italian sportscars of the 50s and 60s consigned for its auction in Monaco on May 10, but the one that currently carries the highest estimated value at between 4 and 5.5 million euros ($5.5 - $7.5 million) is a 1956 Maserati 450S with some very interesting provenance.
The Maserati started its life as a six-cylinder 350S that Stirling Moss drove in the 1956 Mille Miglia race. Unfortunately, the brakes failed, and it crashed into a tree and nearly into a ravine. Moss and his co-driver weren't injured, but the car was kaputt.
Maserati repaired it and used the chassis as a test mule for its new 5.7-liter V8 racecar called the 450S. It featured an extended wheelbase to fit the larger engine and a new body with a single seat. The racer hit the track again at the hands of Moss and Juan Manuel Fangio in the 1957 Buenos Aires 1000 KM but retired with transmission issues. Later that season, it crashed again at the 1957 Mille Miglia at the hands of driver Jean Behra. After that, the car sat around the workshop until it was sold without an engine in 1965.
