2.0 Turbo Intercooled Subaru. Link Engine Management System, Built By Beck In 85 on 2040-cars
Phoenix, Arizona, United States
MOST OF THE CONDITION ISSUES WERE ADDRESSED EXCEPT THAT AN EX GIRLFIEND KEYED MOST OF THE PANELS, DIDN'T GET DOWN TO THE FIBERGLASS. WHEN THE BIDDING PASSES $12,500, I'LL INCLUDE PPG PAINT AS FOLLOWS: A GALLON OF BLACK DCC SINGLE STAGE, A GALLON OF DBC BLACK, 2 GALLONS OF CLEAR, CLOSE TO A GALLON OF NCP 271 PRIMER AND AS MUCH HARDENER AND REDUCER TO MIX THEM WITH. I'LL ALSO INCLUDE A QUART OF RESIN TO DO THE GLASS REPAIRS. THE BODY IS GOING TO NEED THE FENDER BONDED ON AND THE GLASS WORK DONE. THERE'S STRESS CRACKS ON THE HOOD AND AROUND THE WHEEL WELLS. THE ENGINE AND TRANNY MOUNTS ARE FABRICATED BUT NEED TO BE WELDED IN. TYPICALLY THERE IS NO ENGINE MOUNT BUT I DIDN'T WANT ALL THE WEIGHT ON THE TRANS MOUNT.
I ESTIMATE THERE'S A DAYS WORTH OF WELDING, 2 DAYS WORTH OF BODY WORK, A DAY'S WORTH OF PAINTING AND A COUPLE OF DAYS TO ASSEMBLE. STARTING FROM THE FRONT, THE CAR HAS CLEAR TURN SIGNALS WITH CHROME TRIM RINGS THAT I TOOK OFF A NYC BUS. THERE'S ALSO YELLOW LIGHTS IN THE HEADLIGHT HOUSING THAT WORK AS FOG LIGHTS BUT ALSO GIVE AN EERIE GLOW WHEN THEY'RE TURNED ON. 5" DROPPED SPINDLES GIVE THIS CAR A GREAT STANCE. THE HANDMADE OVERSIZED GAS TANK IS ALUMINUM AND BAFFLED. THE PLATE FROM BECK SAYS IT'S THE 47TH CAR HE BUILT. IT'S GOT DISC BRAKES ALL AROUND WITH FRONT CROSSDRILLED AND SLOTTED ROTORS AND DOT 5 SILICONE BRAKE FLUID RUN THROUGH A KEYED LINE LOCK AND ADJUSTABLE PROPORTIONATING VALVE TO CHANGE BRAKE BIAS.THE WINDSHIELD WAS HAND CUT WITH JUST THE BOTTOM AND SIDE TRIM USED, I MADE A SPECIAL BRACKET TO HOLD THE TOP OF THE WINDSHIELD IN AND IT ALSO HANGS THE REAR VIEW MIRROR, SO THE CAR LOOKS EXTREMELY LOW. SHORT THROW SHIFTER, CUSTOM HANDLE. ODOMETER SHOWS UNDER 10,000 MILES, THAT'S WITH THE ORIGINAL ENGINE. MILEAGE ON THE SUBARU IS UNKNOWN BUT THE BUILDER SAYS AROUND 25,000. THE LINK SYSTEM MAKES WIRING IT A BREEZE. THREE REDS FOR POWER AND STARTER, HALF A DOZEN MORE FOR GUAGES AND SENSORS. HIGH PERFORMANCE IGNITERS PULL 250+ HORSEPOWER FROM THE ENGINE. 5 POINT SEAT BELT HARNESSES. BUYER GETS AN EXTRA SET OF SPRING PLATES AND TORSION BARS, THE WHEELS ARE 914 ALUMINUM WITH ALMOST NEW TIRES. THE TUNABLE SUPERTRAPP PLATE MUFFLER, EXTRA VDO DASH GUAGES AND ANYTHING ELSE I CAN FIND FOR THE CAR. THIS CAR WAS AT THE 1985 JAMES DEAN REUNION PARKED NEXT TO THE CAR HE USED TO DRIVE TO HIGH SCHOOL. MEMBERS OF HIS FAMILY HAVE BEEN IN THIS CAR. |

Maserati MC20 spy photos show supercar in broad daylight
Tue, Aug 18 2020The upcoming Maserati MC20 mid-engine supercar has been teased a number of times, but thanks to new spy photos, we finally get a clear look at the prototype. Our spy photographer caught the MC20 in broad daylight from nearly every angle, and it was wearing relatively thin camouflage. The nose of the MC20 seems to take a lot of inspiration from past and present Maseratis. It has a slightly more aggressive oval grille that will house a big trident square in the middle. Two smaller grilles flank the center one. The headlights and hood design look slightly reminiscent of the MC12 supercar, which was based on the Ferrari Enzo. The lights have a similar shape that looks like it might wrap down around the sides of the fender. The little vents in the hood also call to mind the MC12. The sides of the MC20 aren't too over-the-top. It has two relatively small intakes in the rear fender, one upper and one lower. There's a small vent in the front fender. The body's lines are smooth and curvy. The rear pillar is fairly thick and the side skirts are rather deep. The wheels have quite a bit of vinyl covering, but they seem to have some sort of three-spoke or split three-spoke design. At the rear of the car, there are few wings, spoilers or other aerodynamic paraphernalia besides the simple rear lip to distract from the clean curves. What we can see of the taillights suggests thin, wide units with arrow-like points in the lighting elements. There appear to be plenty of vents for cooling and aerodynamics, and the twin tailpipes exit roughly in the middle and a bit inset to the edges of the car. While we don't know all the details about the car, we know a fair bit about what will power it. It will use a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 making 630 horsepower and 538 pound-feet of torque. It's also an in-house engine, not one built by Ferrari. There have been reports that the engine could see a hybrid version with multiple electric motors appear with over 700 horsepower, but it's also possible that those reports of an electrified engine could simply be referring to a 48-volt mild-hybrid assist that could be a part of the standard V6. We're expecting the regular V6 MC20 will be rear-wheel-drive with some kind of dual-clutch or conventional automatic transmission. If the high-output hybrid rumors are true, that version would likely be all-wheel-drive. We should know more when the car makes its debut this September. Related Video: Â Â
Maserati teases all-electric 2022 GranTurismo prototype
Fri, Jun 11 2021Maserati trotted out an early prototype of the 2022 GranTurismo this week, teasing the all-electric replacement for its long-running luxury coupe. The spy-style photographs were shot around the streets of Modena, near the automaker's Innovation Lab, Maserati said in the announcement accompanying the shots. The previous-generation GranTurismo was in production for 12 years before finally retiring in 2019. The new GranTurismo and its drop-top counterpart, the GranCabrio, have been in development since 2019, but it wasn't until more recently that Maserati confirmed that the next-gen two-doors would spearhead (trident-head?) the company's electrification push. We expect it to borrow from Maserati's upcoming Folgore powertrain which can be configured with up to three electric motors for both all-wheel drive and torque vectoring. "Going electric is the next logical step. We are trying to avoid unnecessary air openings and air outlets, in contrast to some of our competitors that seem to depend on them to convey a message," explained Maserati head of design Klaus Busse in a previous interview with Autoblog. "In our case, it's about the purity of the body. We can further purify the car by reducing the amount of air intakes and air outlets, which will help us tell the design story even better." We expect to learn details of the all-electric GranTurismo later this year. Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences.
