San Diego, California, United States
~$22,900 I reserve the right to end the auction early as the car will be for sale locally for the same price. If you have any questions I can be reached at (6l9)..288..6O12. ~This is a beautiful 1957-1959 Porsche Spyder RSK-718. Its a very high quality replica. Built 1835cc backed by a 4 speed transmission. 2,000 miles on the entire car and driveline since built in 2000. Clean and clear title. Fully street legal with current plates and registration. ~The body and paint are gorgeous! Laser straight with a very nice fit and finish. Its done its the factory silver color with blood red leather interior. Its was built on a completely rust free, California, 1969 VW pan and also titled as one. ~The car is and absolute blast to drive! Engine fires right up, sounds great and is Faster Than Hell! Transmission shifts smooth. Brakes are good. Interior looks brand new. The car is running the factory style race exhaust now but It also comes with a more street friendly short exhaust. I also have a tow bar that comes with car. If you want something that no body else has this is it! It draws a crowd everywhere and attracts tons of attention. ~Specs: The engine uses only the following OEM VW parts: crankcase, strengthened and with 3/8" studs; flywheel, pushrods, tubes and rockers. That's it. All the rest are aftermarket stuff bought new: DeMello counterweighted crank, Mahle 92mm (1835cc) cylinders and pistons; CB Performance 044 heads (3/4" spark plugs, large stainless steel valves and high quality valve springs), solid rocker arm shafts; billet valve covers, Engle 110 cam, a mild torque grind profile; dual Solex single throat carburetors with K&N filters; 12v electric fuel pump; aluminum flywheel pulley; new Bosch starter and alternator; Melling cast iron, high volume oil pump; CB Performance stainless steel reusable oil filter. I had the engine assembled in a shop that builds Baja racers in SoCal. It is built for torque, not high rpm horsepower which can often be a nuisance in street driving. The transaxle was rebuilt by Transform in SoCal and has a Super Diff differential gear set, a close ration 4th gear and a taller overall gear ratio of 3.44 vs an OEM Bug having 3.89. The overall gearing allows the car to cruise at 75mph at 3000 rpm. It is a very quick car, not a Corvette beater but still very fast! Suspension new all around. Front brakes are Porsche 11" discs, Rear brakes are OEM drums. Shock absorbers were new at the time of construction, as were the wheels and Dunlop 15" radial tires. The car is kept indoors and has a custom-made, all weather cover, which serves as a sun cover when the car is parked on a daytime outing. It has full lights. ~TERMS OF SALE - non refundable $1,000 deposit due 24 hours after auction ends. Car needs to be paid for in full within 3 days. I will do everything I can to make this a pleasant buying experience. Shipping is buyer's responsibility but I will be happy to assist if you like. Usually $300-$1200 door to door C.O.D. anywhere in the US. International buyers welcome. I can have the car transported to Los Angeles for overseas buyers. I encourage anybody who is interested to come look for themselves or send somebody. I live in San Diego and would be more than happy to pick you up at the airport to view the car in person. I do my best to represent and describe things honestly, accurately and to the best of my knowledge but at the end of the day this is still a classic car. Maserati says no to all-electric future, says U.S. chief
Mon, May 6 2019The future internal combustion remains questionable as automakers push for electrification. But not for Maserati, according to a report from Motor Trend on an investor call discussing first-quarter earnings. According to the outlet, FCA CEO Michael Manley and Maserati North America's head honcho, Al Gardner, made it known on the call that Maserati does not have any plans to say goodbye to good 'ol gasoline power. Rather, the company is planning to embrace electrification in different ways, such as hybridization. "This is a brand that needs combustion engines. It needs that raw emotion," Gardner told reporters at the conference. He also noted it's important for the company to get "back to its roots," citing the company's start with race cars before offering consumer vehicles. Maserati's electrification will begin as part of its model line overhaul leading up to 2022 that is also supposed to help reverse Maserati's slumping sales. Gardner noted that a new sports car will mark the start of the revamp, and we expect it will be a production version of the hotly anticipated and very sexy Alfieri Concept car. We may even see the car at Geneva next year. After that will be a new crossover smaller than the Levante, along with hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants with a few select electric vehicles. Maserati won't be the only automaker embracing electrification, as Jaguar, Volkswagen and Porsche are all pushing toward the new powertrain technology. Unlike Maserati, some of these brands are going all-in on electric cars. Volkswagen will release its last new internal combustion engine in 2026. Volvo's Polestar brand will only have pure EVs after the Polestar 1 sports car.
2023 Maserati MC20 Road Test: Distinctly Maserati, and better for it
Mon, Oct 30 2023It’s not the quickest to 60 or the flashiest of the bunch, but the Maserati MC20 is a brilliant mid-engine supercar. It also seemingly appeared overnight. One day, Maserati was making subpar luxury sedans, and the next itÂ’s producing a carbon-tubbed supercar with a bespoke engine and looks thatÂ’ll have you going, what the hell is that? But in a good way. Seriously, if an award existed for “most improved” in the automotive industry, Maserati deserves to take home the prize this year. From the MC20 to the hot-selling Grecale, this isnÂ’t the Maserati weÂ’ve known and chided for the better part of this century. ItÂ’s all the more impressive that Maserati is finally catching its stride at the same time Ferrari engines are falling away from its lineup, particularly because the presence of those Maranello-designed engines was the biggest draw to driving home a car with the trident in its grille. Forget about Ferrari, though, because the Maserati MC20 is a great supercar because itÂ’s a Maserati. Let your butt fall into the reasonably-bolstered (but not too crazy) all-Alcantara seat, swivel your legs in over top of the exposed carbon sill, and breathe a deep breath of relaxation. Sure, it takes a tiny bit of contorting to get in, but the cabin is downright plush for being an honest-to-goodness supercar. Give the butterfly door a firm yank downward into place, but make sure to admire the perforated and patterned Alcantara as you do, because itÂ’s just one of many hints at the MC20Â’s quiet luxury. ItÂ’s refreshing to take in the interiorÂ’s surroundings, because while storage may be at a premium, most of the controls and trimmings are easily describable as normal or even ergonomic. The steering wheel buttons look lifted straight off an Alfa and are instantly natural to operate. Your phone will find a perfect resting place in the very secure and well-integrated wireless phone charger in the carÂ’s central tunnel. The wheel-mounted drive mode selector is a chip off AlfaÂ’s “DNA” mode selector, but itÂ’s in the perfect spot to effortlessly change the carÂ’s character in an instant. Even the armrests on both the center console and doors are well-judged to keep you relaxed and well-supported no matter how long the drive. Add to all this the Uconnect 5 infotainment system that is dirt-easy to operate, including with wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and youÂ’re left with a supercar that doesnÂ’t make being in it or driving it a chore.
Ghibli PHEV will launch Maserati's electrification offensive
Mon, Jan 27 2020The hybrid variant of the Maserati Ghibli announced in 2019 is allegedly scheduled to make its public debut during the 2020 Beijing Motor Show. The yet-unnamed model will launch the Italian brand's electrification offensive. Sources familiar with Maserati's plans told Automotive News Europe the Ghibli hybrid will greet the public for the first time when the Beijing show opens its doors on April 21. Going hybrid in China makes sense on several levels. It's an important market for Maserati, the current-generation Ghibli (pictured above) broke cover at the 2013 Shanghai auto show, yet it's a country it has struggled to gain a secure foothold in. Adding electrified options to its range could give its annual Chinese sales a big boost because officials are promoting cars with a plug to curb pollution. There's no word yet on what kind of hybrid technology the Ghibli will receive, though Automotive News Europe speculated it will be a plug-in setup capable of powering the sedan on electricity alone for short distances. Similarly, it's too early to tell if the Italian firm will drop a hybrid powertrain into the Ghibli as we know it and push it to the market, or if it will also make visual, tech, and other mechanical updates to the seven-year-old model. Maserati hasn't commented on the report, and it hasn't announced when the Ghibli hybrid will make its debut; it only pledged to release the model in 2020. Similarly, we don't know if the sedan will be sold in the United States yet. We've reached out to the company for clarification, and we'll update this story if we learn more. Looking ahead, every model Maserati releases will incorporate a degree of electrification. Some will be hybrids, we expect the existing Quattroporte and Levante models will receive gasoline-electric technology, and we know the replacements for the GranTurismo and the GranCabrio due out in 2021 and 2022, respectively, will be the firm's first battery-electric models. There's a new sports car right around the corner, too, and rumors indicate it will be aimed at the Lamborghini Huracan Evo, but we'll need to be patient to find out what's under the camouflage.
