GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO OWN A REAL 1972 BUICK GS 350, NOT A CLONE OR REPLICA. AUTHENTICITY IS CLEARLY VERIFIED IN THE VIN NUMBER, WHICH IS DECODED BELOW.  A VERY LIMITED PRODUCTION RUN OF 5,896 GS 350'S WERE BUILT, AND ONLY 5,526 WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. THESE PRODUCTION NUMBERS ARE REASONABLY CLOSE TO THE CHEVELLE LS6 AND LS5 NUMBERS. THIS IS AN OLDER RESTORATION THAT HAS SOME NICE, OLD SCHOOL PERFORMANCE ENHANCMENTS ADDED BACK IN THE DAY. ORIGINAL 350 ENGINE. NICE, DRIVER QUALITY MUSCLE CAR. ONE REPAINT, MANY YEARS AGO. RAM AIR. NEW VINYL TOP. RUNS AND DRIVES AS WELL AS IT LOOKS. RELIABLE ENOUGH TO DRIVE ANYWHERE. THE ONLY PERFORMANCE CARS EVER RELEASED FROM THE BUICK STABLE WERE THE GS (ALONG WITH GSX), AND THE GRAND NATIONAL. HISTORY PROVES THAT THESE WERE SOME OF THE BEST EXAMPLES OF THE ERA. PLEASE READ THE COMPLETE AD, VIEW ALL THE PHOTOS, AND CLICK ON ALL THE LINKS FOR THE FULL DESCRIPTION ON THIS RARE MUSCLE CAR. ODOMETER MILEAGE SOMEWHERE IN THE '70'S, BUT ACTUAL MILEAGE UNKNOWN.

For much of its existence in the North American market, Buick has been promoted as a premium automobile brand, selling entry-level luxury vehicles positioned above its mainstream GM stable mate Chevrolet, and below the flagship Cadillac division. Buick holds the distinction of being the oldest active American marque of automobile, and the original Buick Motor Company was a cornerstone of the establishment of General Motors in 1908.

However, through the late 1960s, Buick had a reputation -- not unlike the one it is battling today -- as a maker of pleasant cars for dull people. The number of Buick models in the lineup fell over time, with the compact and performance segments being abandoned altogether.

The tri-shield brand sold very nice luxury models but nothing that appealed to kids enamored of the sights, speeds, and smells of muscle cars and illicit drag racing  early in the muscle car era. That is, until Buick decided to transform the Skylark into a player in the muscle car field.

The Skylark first appeared in 1953-1954 as a limited edition convertible based on the Roadmaster platform. Approximately 2,526 units were built in those two years, then the model was discontinued.

Reintroduced in 1961 as a compact car, for basic transportation, as a sub model of the Buick Special. By 1964, the Skylark sales dictated that it should become a separate model line. In mid 1965, Buick tested the performance car market with the introduction of the Gran Sport as an option on the Skylark. Competitors didn't exactly run for the hills.

Imagine the shock, then, when Buick broke out the Skylark's Gran Sport trim level as a unique model for 1968. A very aggressive performance car that lives up to its' name, Gran Sport, was a true muscle car. In 1970, GM lifted the 400-cid V-8 limit in intermediate-size cars, and Buick responded with its quickest cars yet, and some of the mightiest muscle cars of the era.

The 1972 GS and GS455 would be the last of Buick's muscle car line until the Grand National, ten years later. The Buick GS line is now remembered as one of GM's premier muscle cars.

THE 1972 GRAND SPORT WAS THE END OF AN ERA.

Maserati returns to Indianapolis to commemorate historic win

Tue, 27 May 2014

This past weekend was Memorial Day weekend, folks, and you know what that means: racing. There was the Monaco Grand Prix for Formula One fans, and back Stateside there was the Indianapolis 500. You might expect to see a name like Maserati pop up at the former more than the latter, but that wasn't always the case.
These days its all about Dallara chassis powered by Chevy or Honda, but over the course of a century there have been plenty of foreign automakers that have won the Greatest Spectacle in Racing. McLaren won it twice in the 1970s, Mercedes and Peugoet won during the race's pre-WWI infancy, and in between them Boyle Racing won it two years in a row with a Maserati chassis and engine.
The car was the Maserati 8CTF "Boyle Special," and its first win came 75 years ago. So to mark the occasion (as well as Maserati's 100th anniversary), the car was brought back to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for a revival lap. Unfortunately Wilbur Shaw, who won the Indy 500 three times (twice in the Maserati) and went on to be president of the speedway, died in a plane crash the day before his 52nd birthday in 1954. So in his place fellow three-time winner Johnny Rutherford took the wheel of the 8CTF in front of the gathered crowds.

Little Red Racing Car Kickstarter project a father/son affair [w/video]

Thu, 14 Feb 2013

Tales of fathers and sons, whether told for adults or for children, never go out of style. It's appropriate then that The Little Red Racing Car, a story about a father and son finding and restoring a 1955 Maserati 300S, is such a stylish piece of work.
Author Dwight Knowlton first started working on The Little Red Racing Car when, after his son was born, he "went looking for the perfect Father/Son/Car book" and couldn't find one. Knowlton's artwork in has been influenced heavily by vintage automotive advertising and Grand Prix posters, and has a very clean, art deco vibe as a result.
Of course, TLRRC is still just a work in progress. Knowlton is hoping the Kickstarter community will help to get the ball rolling, and raise $25,000 to the book printed and distributed. The author even has a stretch goal to have the whole shebang made into and animated film - we love big dreams. Follow on below to hear Knowlton's pitch in his own words, or jump over to his Kickstarter page to look further or buy-in.

Maserati updates Quattroporte, Ghibli for 2015 at LA Auto Show

Wed, 12 Nov 2014

Maserati won't be showcasing any all-new products at the Los Angeles Auto Show this year, but that doesn't mean it doesn't have anything to celebrate. It is, after all, the marque's centenary this year, and in 2014 has achieved the best sales it's ever racked up in the US market.
The most noteworthy Trident model to be displayed in LA next week will be the revised Quattroporte, the S Q4 and GTS trims of which are treated to some enhancements for the 2015 model year. The top-spec Quattroporte GTS in particular "benefits from a sportier and aggressive appearance," highlighted by color-matched lower bodywork, an updated emblem, red accents on the wheels and upgraded equipment inside, including red leather upholstery, contrast stitching, piano black trim and integrated wifi.
For 2015, the smaller Ghibli sedan also gets standard navigation and Bluetooth connectivity, as well as a new finish for the brake calipers. Maserati will also showcase the GranTurismo MC Centennial Editions, as well as the Alfieri concept originally unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show (new images of which we've included below). Finally, the Petersen Automotive Museum is also collaborating with the Italian automaker to display an array of historic Maseratis in the West Hall lobby of the Los Angeles Convention Center.
