I have kept my Biturbo Spyder in a climate-controlled garage with temperature stabilization and air filtration (keep pollen out, etc.) .  But that's not all. I have also taken exceptional good care of it.  As a result, the car's overall condition is spectacularly good and not not just for its age.

This is a 1986 Biturbo Spyder with dual turbos.  It has a 2.5 Liter V6 engine.  Odometer reads 52,390.

It's easy to make sweeping statements about the car's condition - but as we all know - the devil is in the detail.  I am willing to provide as much detail as possible, so here's a go at it.

The condition of the chassis is extraordinarily good.  To begin with, the car is rust-free thanks to climate-controlled storage.  It has made a world of difference.  No body panel has rust or any corrosive damage.  The car has been carefully examined.  The car has never been in an accident.  There is no frame damage or stress of any kind.    It has not been stored in, or exposed to cold weather.  The condition of the paint does reflect its age (as seen under ultraviolet light).  However, the shine remains superb thanks to relying on Zymol "Ital" glaze with 47% Brazilian carnauba wax.  One of my photos shows the 20 foot ceiling's reflection on the hood.  This wax resists just about anything including sun damage.  Inspection of rear view mirrors mounted on the doors shows excellent condition of the plastic, trim, and mirror.  The plastic rear window is also clear and the stitching has no defect.

The interior of the car is also excellent.  Take note of the condition of the instrument cowl, and the wood trim (crisp edges and no warping or fading).  The convertible top fits nicely but is a bit tight-ftting at this time (needs use to loosen it up).  The seats are in very good condition.  Not just relative for their age, but very good - period.  The plastic in the a/c vents and control buttons is sound but may be developing brittleness (they are coated with "conditioners" to keep them safe).  The windshield glass is superb.  Clean etched lines.  Excellent visibility.  No nicks or damage.  The windows are in very good condition.

The wheels are in very good condition with minor signs of wear and tear.  The tires are in good shape.

The electricals are in good condition thanks to climate-controlled storage.  I include a photo of a circuit board to give you a detailed viewpoint.

The car has just had its oil sump cleaned out completely (it had no sludge).  The oil filter is new.  The air filter is new and I have another one.

Here's the bottom line: you can "save" money by buying a cheaper car only to spend more money returning it to good condition rather than buying this excellent car.  Why waste time and money "restoring" to normal operation?  Take this car to a higher level of performance instead.

I am putting together a detailed report with more photos so that I can email to interested bidders.

Nearly forgot to mention - brand new Sears DieHard Platinum battery $229.99 with 850 cold cranking amps & high performance features.

Swedish toymaker offers a wooden Maserati collection

Thu, Mar 15 2018

In some ways, Maserati had it easier in the 1980s. We don't necessarily mean in a financial sense, or that the cars were especially reliable, but it has to be said both the Biturbo and the third generation Quattroporte are both simple, three-box shapes that are easy to re-create from blocks of solid wood. The Swedish toy company Playsam offers the Alfieri concept, the Levante SUV and open-wheel Maserati race cars in wooden toy car form, and the production portfolio is planned to be enlarged later. Maserati has plenty of classic designs for Playsam to re-create, but our tip is to look into the Biturbo style cars if they want to take a break from all those swoopy shapes you can see in the slideshow above. Maybe they could even offer the Chrysler TC by Maserati with a detachable hardtop: Those round opera windows must be really easy to drill in place. Browsing the online store, the prices for the Playsam's Maserati products are far higher than the toymaker's conventional $70 wooden toy car range, at over $370 apiece. But like the real counterparts, they should not just sit untouched: We would rather see them being used. Related Video:

Maserati MC20 GT2 returns the Trident to GT racing in 2023

Wed, Jul 27 2022

Seems we got ahead of Maserati, but now we're on the same page with the Italian carmaker. We wrote about the Maserati Project24 earlier this week, a limited-edition track car not built to race a specific series, instead chasing Maserati's own performance targets. We wondered whether the Project24 was a pivot from the rumored GT3 program planned for the MC20 years ago. Turns out the Project24 is an offshoot of the GT2 program for the MC20, the Italians in Modena announcing they've developed an MC20 GT2 to compete in the Fanatec GT2 European Series Championship next year. The base tech specs listed so far for the MC20 GT2 are the same as the Project24. The twin-turbo Nettuno V6 shifts through a six-speed sequential auto with paddle shifters, sending power to the rear wheels through a mechanical limited slip differential. Brembo CCMR racing brakes hang off a double wishbone suspension with anti-roll bars front and rear and adjustable dampers, just behind custom, forged 18-spoke center lock wheels on racing slicks that can be changed easily thanks to on-board air jacks. A single seat in the cabin is accessorized with an adjustable, multifunction carbon fiber steering wheel, an adjustable pedal box, and air conditioning. Safety features include an FIA fuel tank, rain light, roll cage, six-point harness, and fire extinguisher.  The differences that we know of include output, curb weight, and the aero package. Series organizer SRO says GT2 is "formulated to bring gentlemen drivers back to the front of the stage ... whilst being fast and spectacular enough to secure the values of SRO-promoted championships, should the current GT3 category become too expensive for too many of our teams and drivers." GT2 regulations cap output at around 630 hp, just nine more than the standard MC20 throws down — and 110 hp less than the Project24. The series' Balance of Performance rules will ultimately determine race weight and output. The regulations also draw limits around aero devices that Maserati Stile didn't need to heed on the Project24. The aero bit is especially important here because GT2 cars are more powerful than GT3 entries but designed to be less reliant on aerodynamics than GT3 cars, making GT2 versions easier for amateurs to drive at the limit.  This is Maserati's first dip back into GT racing above the GT4 class since the MC12 GT1 that snagged close to 100 wins between 2004 and 2010. The race division will sell cars to individuals and race teams.

Maserati MC20 appears in artsy, blurry teaser

Sat, Mar 7 2020

Maserati said it's entering a new era. Judging by these teaser shots of the a camouflaged MC20 prototype supercar, it's clear Maserati plans to strut its way into that new era con il coraggio and braggadocio. Maserati took its future flagship to the Piazza degli Affari in Milan, for a set of mostly blurry photos in front of Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan's sculpture called "L.O.V.E." Maserati called the artwork "a symbol of Italian audacity in international contemporary art," for the sake of clarity, we'll call it a giant marble bird flipped at anyone who might ask, "You talkin' to me?" The MC20 is thought to be built around the carbon chassis laid up for the 4C, stretched lengthwise and across to create an overall larger package. We can't tell much about the real masterpiece in the photos, but it is clear the MC20 prototype has shed its gawky bodywork borrowed from the Alfa Romeo 4C to slip into something more comfortable. A very Maserati nose leads with a large grille and sits prominently ahead of the other bodywork. Behind that, an Italianate supercar form combines plenty of intakes, deep side skirts, a seamless rake to the backlight, and a short rear overhang. In back, powertrains developed at Maserati and for Maserati should make all sorts of lusty noises. The top powertrain is expected to be a hybrid V6 with three electric motors and around 600 horsepower, there's hearsay about an all-electric model, and rumors of a turbocharged V8 won't die. The only gearbox mentioned so far is an eight-speed dual-clutch shooting power to the rear wheels. Autoevolution believes the hybrid engine will translate into a sprint to 62 miles per hour in around two seconds and a top speed beyond 186 miles per hour, just the kind of giddy-up one would expect from a challenger aimed at the Lamborghini Huracan Evo. If anything, 600 hp sounds conservative seeing as the Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA gets 540 hp from its 2.9-liter turbocharged V6 without electric help. The MC20 will take on Lamborghini's championship-winning finest on the track, too, the MC20 — for Maserati Corse 2020 — surely headed for an FIA entry in track-only form. For now, the MC20 continues its driving program to prepare for its debut in May. The coupe version should come first, going on sale in Europe late this year and in the U.S. sometime next year, followed by a convertible variant. Â
