The black and gold Lotus Evora Sport 410 GP Edition is heading to America

Few race teams have such deeply iconic liveries as Team Lotus. From the Gold Leaf cars from the late 1960s to the bright yellow Camel cars that lasted until the early 1990s, arguably none is more iconic than the John Player Special cars that brought world championships to Emerson Fittipaldi and Mario Andretti. Now that same sleek black and gold paint scheme can be had on the new Lotus Evora Sport 410 GP Edition. Even better, it's heading to America. While the GP Edition isn't anything more than a special paint scheme, what a wonderful design it is. The livery is based on the John Player Special Team Lotus cars that competed in Formula One between 1972 and 1986. The black paint is accented with gold stripes along the hood, fenders, doors, and rocker panel. Gold Evora Sport 410 logos adorn the rear while a "Word Champions" emblem flanks the engine cover. The Evora Sport 410 is the lighter, faster version of the thoroughly reworked Evora 400 that we drove last year. Lotus says it's the fastest road car the automaker has ever built. It hits 60 miles per hour in 3.9 seconds and tops out at 190 mph. They US version has been specially curated by Lotus engineers in order to be both light and meet federal crash test standards. Next Lotus Elise to draw from its roots

Recently-appointed Lotus CEO Jean-Marc Gales told Autocar that work on the new Lotus Elise, which is coming in 2020, is already underway, and thanks to growing sales, the automaker is set to make a profit for the first time in 20 years. Gales also dropped some details about the new sports cars' design philosophy and underpinnings. According to the report, the new Elise will utilize the same aluminum chassis technology found in the original Elise and won't bear any resemblance to the 2010 Elise concept. Instead, the upcoming vehicle will uphold its roots with a lightweight design that emphasizes driver involvement at an affordable price. The new Elise is rumored to weigh in at roughly 1,984 pounds, almost 384 pounds more than the original Elise. In order to meet US crash ratings, the Elise will most likely be wider, but have the same length as the current model. Power will probably come from a Toyota unit producing between 134 horsepower and 245 horsepower. The Elise is expected to come to the US where it will be offered with a manual and automatic transmission, which will both come from Toyota as well. Gales claims Lotus has more orders now than in any year in the last 10 years, with the US being one of the automaker's most important markets. Related Video:

Watch Lotus F1 team careen through a mall in Renault Twizy EVs

The Lotus Formula One Team is sticking with drivers Romain Grosjean and Pastor Maldonado next year, but it's dropping Renault as an engine supplier in favor of Mercedes power. The 2014 F1 season is barely over, though, and that mean's there still a little time left to put those marketing dollars to work, while still having a little fun, too. To that, Renault has put Grosjean and Maldonado behind the wheel of two Twizy electric cars and unleashed them on The Dubai Mall for an ad for the little buggies. The place is one of the world's largest shopping centers, and it also houses an aquarium, an ice skating rink and even a dinosaur. It's a big place, and unsurprisingly, the two F1 pilots drift the little buggies with ease around every part of the complex. Grosjean even gets some time on the ice.
