Listen to the Lotus Evora 400 make lovely noises

Automakers roll out loads of video content these days, but they often do so much editing and add so much background music that you miss out on the best stuff. With this video, Lotus shows they know what's important. This video shows Lotus's Evora 400 spending some time out on their test track in Hethel. The video is quite short and consists mostly of some onboard footage, but Lotus clearly invested in the sound recording. This Evora's 400 horsepower, supercharged V6 sounds brilliant as it screams around the course. We'll be getting a version of this car in the States this year. Lotus intends on selling the fittingly named Evora Sport 410 (for its 400 horse output) in America. It's possible we may see a lower-end model as well without the supercharger or with a smaller engine. No matter what though, great-sounding Lotuses are in our future. Lotus slated to stop selling Evora in US

It's been three years now since Lotus stopped selling the Elise and Exige in North America, leaving the Evora as its only model available Stateside. But according to the latest from Car and Driver, even that model is on its way out.
The problem reportedly comes down to air bags. Lotus was granted a temporary exemption from fitting the latest-generation smart airbags to the Evora, but that exemption is set to expire at the end of the year. And once it does, Lotus apparently has no intention of developing and fitting the proper equipment to allow it to continue selling the Evora in the United States.
Once the Evora is gone from our market, Lotus will be reduced to selling only track-bound versions of the Elise and Exige in the US, so the prospect of actually buying a new Lotus and driving off the dealer lot will vanish into thin air.

In an automotive world that often focuses on the latest tech and what's coming in the future, it's refreshing to take a look into the past to get a new perspective. That said, the show is really outdoing itself this time by posting a full episode from the '80s to YouTube, complete with the original, jazzy opening. The video is an absolute standout, too, with drives of some of the best supercars that Europe could offer at the time. Among the now classic sportscars that MotorWeek got to drive are the Ferrari 328, Lotus Esprit Turbo, Lamborghini Jalpa and Autokraft AC Mark IV. There's even a preview that sings the praises of the tech in the Porsche 959. The episode is basically a showcase of most of the exotics from young enthusiasts' walls and school folders during the '80s and is not to be missed.
