**please note that this auction is the ONLY LEGITIMATE ONLINE ADVERTISEMENT FOR MY CAR RIGHT NOW. The car is as I have described it below and is securely under lock and key in my private storage unit in Omaha. If you are interested in this car, shoot me a message and I'm happy to communicate directly. ***

Manufactured in Hethel on June 16, 1993, this pampered Esprit only has 26.6K miles. It is an extremely rare "Federal 93.5" variant, which means that it has certain components from the later S4 (interior and access improvements). There were only 62 of these particular Esprits built, from #245 to #306. This one (#303) is the fourth from the final built. There were only 21 Calypso Red cars in the world, 17 of which had this color leather specified.

This one has lead a pampered life. I would be surprised if there are any better examples than this one left anywhere.

I am the fourth owner of the car having purchased the car last summer from an impeccable local executive. It is in nearly flawless cosmetic condition, with only a small number of insignificant cosmetic issues (thanks to the premium but thin leather, the seat bolster on the drivers side is slightly fading). It has never been abused, tracked, or messed with. It is tight and shifts and drives flawlessly. Thanks to the leather (and the new Lloyd mats - with red edging) the car smells like new.

I have the books and records, keys, certificate of provenance, car fax, and a copy of the original window sticker. Also includes the Freescan tool (and cable) as well as the factory workshop manual. The car has an improved chip (the Red Race chip) from Lotus Esprit World. The belt was changed at 12K (and has been given a clean bill of health).

I had a new Sony head unit professionally installed (but not speakers - no cutting whatsoever) that enables you to plug your iphone or ipod into the dash and listen to the music directly. It also has a battery tender. I also bought a Momo shift knob but ultimately determined that, given how rare the car is, I wanted to respect the stock factory setup (even though, for the moment, it is no longer "stylish" to have small rims and a quiet exhaust). That knob is included in its box.

When I bought the car, my first Esprit, I had concerns/low expectations about it's overall ‘personality’. I have been pleasantly surprised with how easy to live with and quite trustworthy the car is. It is a simple, thinly-veiled race car. The interior is consequently tight and purposeful. If you are built like a race car driver, you will be fine. I am 6'1" and it fits like a tailored suit.

The only issues I have had with it: last November the clutch master cylinder failed and was easily and inexpensively replaced by my local mechanic (the bigger hassle was figuring out how to safely load the car onto a flatbed). At the time I also had all fluids flushed. Also, a leaky axle seal was replaced.

It's a seriously beautiful car that I didn't intend to sell. I'm only selling due to a job transfer to Scottsdale that requires me to raise funds for a down payment on a house. (I am also selling my 928S4). Given the capabilities of this car, well-taken care of Esprits are an amazing value. A PPI is certainly welcome - this car will stand up to scrutiny.

Serious inquiries only, please. No scams or shenanigans.

Cheers!

Lotus Elise Sprint adds lightness to lightness

Fri, Mar 17 2017

Lotus announced the introduction of a new Elise trim level that exemplifies founder Colin Chapman's famous phrase of "simplify and add lightness." The new Elise Sprint combines the weight savings of the current standard Elise, along with a number of Sprint-exclusive parts for what Lotus claims is the model's most significant weight loss yet of about 90 pounds over the old model, bringing the car's dry weight (not curb weight) to 1,759 pounds. The exclusive Sprint parts account for about 57 pounds of that loss. They include a lithium-ion battery, forged wheels, polycarbonate rear window, and carbon fiber for the seats, roll bar cover, engine cover, and access panel. Interestingly, the biggest savings come from the lithium-ion battery, which is roughly 20 pounds lighter than the normal battery. Lotus also includes the optional two-piece brake rotors and carbon fiber door sills to reach the 90 pound total. This all translates to slightly quicker 0-60 mph times for Elise Sprint models over their Sport counterparts. Both the 1.6-liter 134-horsepower Sprint and 1.8-liter 217-horsepower Sprint 220 models complete the run to 60 mph a tenth of a second quicker than the equivalent Sport versions, with times of 5.9 and 4.1 seconds respectively. The weight loss also results in a price gain. For either Sprint model, you'll end up paying an extra GBP5,000, which is a bit over $6,100 at current exchange rates. Of course, the Elise isn't available in the US anyway, so it's a moot point. Related Video:

Evora GT430 revealed, Lotus' most powerful road car ever

Thu, Jul 20 2017

A new Lotus grows in the English garden of lightness and speed. Lotus bills the Evora GT430 as the company's fastest, "most powerful and accomplished road car to date." And the stats seem to back that up. Lotus says the GT430's 0-to-60 time is a brilliant 3.7 seconds, the logical result of putting a 3.5-liter V6 supercharged and charge-cooled engine producing 430 horsepower into a car with a curb weight of 2,858 pounds (2,768 pounds exsanguinated). Lotus, in continual pursuit of its fetish for lightness, used carbon fiber (some of it exposed) and lightweight chassis innovations to knock 81 pounds off the curb weight of the already-quite-light Evora 410. Other comparison points: The 410 makes 410 horsepower, hence the name, with a 0-60 time of 3.9 seconds. The GT430 also gains torque over the 410, generating 325 pound-feet, though higher in the rev range at 4,500 rpm, to the 410's output of 310 at 3,500. The GT430 comes only with a six-speed manual (you can get an automatic in the 410 if so inclined), and its top speed is 190 miles per hour. Tack on aero, notably the large carbon wing, that generates up to 550 pounds of downforce (that's at top speed, but there's plenty far slower), and Lotus says the result is "tremendous real-world speed and handling unheard of in its class." It's the first new product announcement since news broke of Lotus' sale to China's Geely. Only 60 Evora GT430s will be built, at a base price of 112,500 pounds (VAT included) that will escalate quickly with options. That's around $125 grand, assuming you could get one here. Lotus getting into the motorcycle business

Fri, 21 Jun 2013

Lotus founder Colin Chapman is famously quoted as saying something to the effect of "Simplify, then add lightness." We're a bit amazed that it took this long, but someone appears to be taking that message to heart at the British marque, losing a couple of wheels, a clutter of bodywork and a whole mess of weight. No, Lotus isn't planning another spindly Seven-style trackday racer, it's getting into motorcycles.
Well, sort of. As an automaker, Lotus apparently isn't directly behind this two-wheeled effort, but it does appear to have officially lent its brand and logo to a new company, Lotus Motorcycles, which counts former Volkswagen Group designer Daniel Simon, Germany's Holzer Group and auto racing team Kodewa among its partners. The latter builds and races Lotus' T128 Le Mans Prototype in the World Endurance Championship series.
The new company is touting an as-yet unseen motorcycle, a racing-inspired "hyper bike" called C-01, releasing only the image above - a carbon fiber fuel tank trimmed in Lotus' trademark black and gold livery. Details are tough to come by, but the project is said to include a powertrain good for around 200 horsepower and construction involving titanium, carbon fiber and aerospace-grade steel.
