The Esprit is a 2002 Twin Turbo V8 with ~14922 miles on it. It is a 25th Anniversary Edition model. The car is paint code B92 silver metallic over black leather interior. The stitching for the leather is a silvery/white.

This Esprit is in excellent cosmetic condition both in an out. Some photos may have a pink or purplish tinge to them at the edges, it's the camera. All photos except the south of the border are recent. There is no damage or cracking to the lower front spoiler at all because great care is used when out driving. The car is 100% original as it comes from the factory with no modifications.

The exterior paint does not have any cracking or scratches. I personally detailed the vehicle using my supply of products and porter cable earlier in the summer. All rubber trim and gaskets are in excellent condition with no tears.

The interior of the Esprit does not have any tears and is still as supple and clean as day 1 from the factory.
All carpets are in an excellent non-faded condition. The interior is 100% original. I cautiously enter and exit the vehicle each time I drive it so I do not wear out the bolster and educate passengers to try and do the same. I use Leatherique rejuvinator and prestine clean products on the entire interior to ensure the leather was well fed and continued to be supple.

The transmission shifts smooth and shifter feel is quite lovely. The engine sounds fantastic. This is a pristine cosmetic condition car but has not sat in a garage which is probably worse for these cars. They need to be used to stay fresh.
The car has not swapped hands through multiple owners or dealerships every couple of months. It is automobile enthusiast owned since 2008.

Both the glass and silver tops are included with the sale. I also have the air deflector which can be installed at the roof mounting positions for open top driving. (See photo)

The car is not driven in the rain or foul weather. It is only used on sunshine days. Stored in a heated garage during the winter months with a battery tender.

The service history during my ownership is as follows:

Purchased the car in October of 2008

  • Because I live in central NY, it was then time to put the car away in our heated garage for winter storage.
Spring of 2009
  • Synthetic oil and filter change using an Esprit filter from JAE
2010
  • Timing belt replacement completed under Lotus Warranty
  • New auxiliary belt
  • New knock sensor
  • ECM was found to not have the latest reflash stickers so it was sent out to Lotus Cars USA for proper reprogramming and then reinstalled
  • Synthetic oil and filter change
2011
  • Synthetic oil and filter change
2012
  • Drove the car 250 miles to Lotus dealership for service ($2300)
  • "A" service for Esprit V8
  • Synthetic oil and filter change
  • Brake fluid flush and refill
  • Coolant flush and refill
  • Transmission fluid flush and refill
  • Clutch was said to still be in very good condition
  • Diagnosis found the HVAC valve stepper motor under the passenger side dash to be faulty and not properly directing air flow for use in heating the interior. It was confirmed coolant does get to the heater matrix correctly it just is not being directed. I was told it takes 3-4 weeks for the part to come in but I wanted to enjoy the car for the summer and it is a fair weather vehicle anyway.
  • Lower control arm bushings were replaced
  • Fuel filler neck seal replaced (I found the fuel neck grommet to be torn so I wanted it replaced)
  • Car was noted as being very finely detailed
2013
  • I may complete an oil and filter change before winter storage.
I hope the photos capture the vehicle condition and can take additional photos per requests.

Mileage on the Esprit will increase as the car is still driven to work every now and then. When the snow falls the car is in the garage until the spring and roads are clean.

Please ask any questions you may have and do not bid unless you are fully prepared to purchase the vehicle.
A non-refundable $100 deposit is due within 48 hours of winning bid via paypal. Balance is due in full via certified bank or cashiers check within 7 days.

Buyer arranges vehicle pick-up by an insured shipping company for the continental United States, or local pick-up once funds are 100% cleared. Title will then be signed over to the new owner and sent via certified mail or handed over if buyer chooses to personally pick-up vehicle locally.

If your eBay feedback score is below 5 points or 95% positive please call or email me before bidding.

Zero or low feedback bidders will be canceled.

Vehicle is sold in an "as is" condition with no warranty.

Lotus will kill Elise, Exige and Evora to make room for the new Type 131

Mon, Jan 25 2021

Lotus ended years of speculation by announcing it will begin rejuvenating its range when it releases a new model in 2021. Known as the Type 131 internally, its arrival will mark the end of the Elise, the Exige and the Evora. Although the three aforementioned models are showing their age, putting them out to pasture at about the same time is a surprising move because they're currently the only cars in the company's lineup. Saying that the Type 131 will have big shoes to fill is an understatement; it will blaze the path that a full family of new cars will follow. Official details about the 131 are few and far between, but an earlier report sketches the outline of a driver-friendly sports car powered by a mid-mounted engine. While it won't stray far from the lightness and the nimbleness that Lotus is famous for, it will be equipped with more tech than even the Evora, which offers a more comprehensive list of features than the track-inspired Exige and the back-to-the-basics Elise. Insiders have claimed that the 131 will be built on a new modular platform, and that it will not use any kind of electrification. Lotus released an image that shows the Evija (an electric, 2,000-horsepower halo car strictly limited to 130 units globally) next to three enigmatic cars hidden by a cover; one is presumably the 131. Another might be the battery-powered model that it's developing jointly with Renault-owned Alpine. As for the third, your guess is as good as ours. We know that the British firm is developing a Volvo-based SUV, but it's not pictured in the lineup. News of a new Lotus model will bring joy to enthusiasts and economists alike. The company is investing over 100 million British pounds (about $136 million) into its Hethel, England, facility, and it will hire about 250 employees to bring the 131 to the market. Most of the recruits will work in engineering and manufacturing. Lotus noted that it hopes to start building prototypes of the Type 131 — an internal designation that will likely not appear on the production model — in 2021. We don't know if deliveries will also begin this year, or if they are scheduled to start a little later. Regardless, it will be worth the wait. Lotus told Autoblog that all of its future cars will be engineered for global markets, and that its intention is to sell the Type 131 in North America. Related video:

Lotus-based Radford Type 62-2 shows its retro-styled interior

Thu, Nov 11 2021

England-based Radford introduced the Type 62-2, a limited-edition coupe with a heritage-laced design, earlier in 2021. But it didn't show us the interior. Now, Radford finally revealed what the car looks like inside, and it's a blend of retro styling cues and modern tech that enthusiasts will love. At first glance, the Type 62-2's cockpit looks like it's from a different era. The driver faces a meaty three-spoke steering wheel, the shift linkage is exposed, and there is a pair of Bremont instruments (one is a clock, the other is a stopwatch) positioned on the passenger-side of the dashboard. We could be describing a 1970s rally car. However, a closer inspection reveals features buyers expect from a car in 2021. Look behind the steering wheel (whose spokes are made with carbon fiber) and you'll spot a digital instrument cluster with a layout that can be configured by each buyer. You could, in theory, ask for the tachometer to be front and center, for example. Screens positioned on either side of the dashboard display the footage from the cameras that replace the exterior mirrors, and a phone dock that doubles as a wireless charger is hidden behind the build plate located on the center stack. Users can set their phone there to access navigation and music apps.  Radford Type 62-2 John Player Special View 5 Photos Buyers will have three basic trim levels to choose from: Classic, Gold Leaf, and John Player Special. Each one will receive a specific look inspired by liveries that Lotus race cars have used in the past, though buyers will be invited to configure their car exactly how they want it. What won't change is the engine: it's a supercharged, 3.5-liter V6 that found its way into the Type 62-2 from Toyota via the Lotus Emira. Bolted to either a six-speed manual transmission or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, it develops about 430 horsepower in the Classic model, around 500 in the Gold Leaf, and approximately 600 in the John Player Special thanks in part to a specific supercharger. Radford will build 62 units of the Type 62-2, and production is scheduled to start before the end of 2021. Deliveries will begin in early 2022. Pricing information hasn't been announced, but don't expect this rare British coupe built largely by hand to come with a bargain price. Stock Miata beats bunch of high-powered cars in wet 1/4-mile drag race

Thu, 06 Jun 2013

When is a stock, 167-horsepower Mazda MX-5 Miata quicker than a Chevrolet Corvette, Ford Mustang, Lamborghini Gallardo, Lotus Elise and a Porsche 911? When it's raining. Sort of.
Mazda Canada arranged a unique drag race to show off the fact that the Miata's optional power retractable folding hardtop can go from top-down to top-up in just 12 seconds flat. In this video, all six cars line up for a drag race, and it starts to rain (well, sort of - but you'll have to watch the video all the way to the end to see what we mean). The green flag is waved, and the timer starts as soon as the convertibles begin to put their tops up. But because the Miata's roof mechanism gets the car's roof back up a full 5.1 seconds quicker than the second-place car, the Mazda gets a serious advantage off the line for the actual drag race.
It's a fun video. And while we've spoiled the results (come on, the video was uploaded by Mazda, you knew the Miata was going to win), be sure to see how it all unfolds, below.
