1988 Lotus Esprit Turbo

VIN: SCCFC20A8JHF62478

More than $11,000 in maintenance receipts

Peter Stevens redesign generation--Type 910 turbo inline four-cylinder engine--Five-speed manual transmission

Original leather interior--Original owners handbook--Power windows

Upgraded three-fan cooling fan system

AEM Universal Water/Methanol Injection Kit installed.

Why did previous owner install this $400 kit? It reduces air inlet and exhaust-gas temperatures, which allows for increased boost pressure and advance timing without having to run higher-octane fuel. It’s like getting to run 100+ octane gas for the price of Premium!

Area Lotus Performance Specialist at Intermecanica in Westchester, NY, who has worked on Esprit Turbos since 1976, and Lotuses since 1968, claims this is the most powerful ’88 he has seen.

Better performance than some of the V8’s he has serviced and driven. And also one of the most well maintained.

Some history on the car:

A great sports car with meticulous maintenance documentation with the 1988 Lotus Esprit Turbo you see before you.

British car manufacturer Lotus made the Esprit from 1976-2004 with a future release set in 2014.

In 1987, the Esprit underwent a redesign by Peter Stevens for its fourth generation. It was often known by its project code of X180.  A new Lotus patented process was introduced to create the new body called the VARI (Vacuum Assisted Resin Injection) process which offered more advantages than the previous hand-laid process. Kevlar reinforcement was added to the roof and sides for roll-over protection.

The Stevens styled cars retained the mechanical components of the previous high compression Esprit and turbo Esprit but introduced a stronger Renault transaxle. The exterior style changes were accompanied by a redesign of the interior allowing more room for the driver and passengers.

This Vehicle:

The Lotus you see pictured has great ride and performance. This Esprit was well-cared for as the previous owner provided more than $11,000 in maintenance receipts from various shops around the southern California area. The original owners handbook is included with purchase.

The black exterior paint shows well, and the original saddle leather interior shows some slight wear from usage but it does not take away from the drivability of the car.  And with some time, the leather can be returned to near new condition, if not new.

This Lotus comes equipped with power windows. The sports car sits on four Lotus alloy wheels wrapped in Firestone Firehawk tires measuring P195/60R15. Under the hood, you’ll see where this car gets its “turbo” moniker. The 910 turbo inline four-cylinder engine runs fantasticly. This engine is mated with a five-speed transmission. A note from the previous owner states this car has an upgraded cooling fan system with a three-fan setup. It allows this car to idle cool indefinitely in 100-degree stop-and-go traffic.

This car has withstood the California heat and is ready to sharpen your collection. VIN is SCCFC20A8JHF62478, and mileage reads 64,700.

It is being sold on a clear title. GET OUT AND DRIVE!

Lotus Cars, Williams Advanced Engineering announce technical partnership

Mon, Jan 28 2019

Sports car company Lotus announced a technology development partnership with Williams Advanced Engineering, more commonly referred to simply as Williams. Lotus says the partnership will be specifically focused on propulsion systems. And this has us very excited. Lotus doesn't need much introduction; it makes ultralight and spectacular handling sports cars. Williams is a bit more obscure, but it works on some of the coolest vehicles in the world. For decades the company has participated in Formula 1, and still has a team competing. It developed a wild 500-horsepower flat-six engine for Singer, and it worked with Jaguar on the C-X75 concept car and made stunt versions for the James Bond movie "Spectre." The company even has electric car experience with four seasons of Formula E and development work on the Aston Martin Rapide E on its prodigious resume. The subtext of these various Williams projects is that we could see almost any kind of powertrain show up in Lotus sports cars in the future. The companies could have some high-revving, high-output internal combustion engines for the near-term, then they could create electric drivetrains for future Lotus cars. Think first-generation Tesla Roadster but developed by a company with racing experience. Perhaps the two could even create some hybrids in between launches of the two powertrain types. Of course we're speculating, but none of this out of the question considering Williams' capabilities. In fact, since the Formula E experience is specifically highlighted in the Lotus announcement, we bet electric Lotus cars are all but guaranteed. We will be watching for developments with great anticipation. Related Video:

Jay Leno checks out Ronin RS 211, a Lotus Elise transformed

Tue, Dec 16 2014

You know a vehicle is going to be something special when you need a pair of goggles to drive it, and this highly customized Lotus lives up to that promise. The owner refers to his one-off as the Ronin RS 211, but underneath that barely there body are a few parts left from a 2005 Lotus Elise. Owner Frank Profera totaled his Elise when a Porsche rear-ended it, but he wasn't willing to give the sports car up. With a canvas to build from, Profera took inspiration from the Lotus 2-Eleven and Can-Am cars, and the Ronin resulted. Not content with just a svelte body, the powertrain received just as thorough an upgrade as the looks. The engine still displaces 1.8 liters but features improved internals. The piece de resistance, though, is the custom turbocharger setup that runs on a mix of pump gas and alcohol to put out a claimed 680 horsepower, which sounds great screaming through the California canyons. "Ronin" is a Japanese word for a master-less samurai, and with its featherlight weight, just a vestigial windshield and gobs of power, the RS 211 is a fantastic automotive symbol for the type of sword such a warrior might carry. New Lotus owners ditch ambitious five-year plan

Thu, 26 Jul 2012

This didn't take long. The new overlords at Lotus have reportedly scrapped the company's five-year plan. DRB-Hicom ditched the turnaround strategy, penned by ousted CEO Danny Bahar, because it believes the market viewed the plan as overly ambitious.
The new product plan will slim the number of new model lines from five to three, and Lotus will likely slash the number planned consultants in favor of relying more heavily on in-house talent. According to The Star, the move should help expedite product development and save cash at the same time.
Even so, nothing is written in stone as of yet. DRB-Hicom says the new plan will take up to a year to finalize. The company has dumped around $242 million into Lotus so far this year, and the struggling automaker may require another $121 million by 2013. Lotus all but stopped production earlier this year during a loan freeze, but the lights came back on in April. The company now produces around 44 vehicles per week.
