2001 lOTUS eSPRIT
This 2001 Lotus Esprit, Calypso Red over a Tan interior, is a three owner car in incredible original condition. It's most recent owner is a professional mechanic and true Lotus enthusiast. He has carefully maintained and preserved the car. As he told me, "I drive it like a Camry." The car was bought new at Lotus of Denver and then had one subsequent owner before coming to the east coast. Mechanically, the car has several
nice upgrades. The most noticeable are the genuine 3 piece HRE wheels,
which the previous owner purchased at a cost of over $4000. They are
stock size and the tires were replaced two years ago and still look
virtually new with only several hundred miles on them. The car is
equipped with a Tubi exhaust and sport cats, as well as blow off valves.
The car also runs a fully adjustable suspension with poly bushings. The
timing belt was replaced with a Gates belt 500 miles ago. Gates belts
are long lasting alternatives to the stock belts. The oil was also
changed with fresh Motul 500 miles ago, along with brake fluid (Motful)
and antifreeze (Mercedes Blue.) The car comes with great service records
and receipts. The car is being sold with a brand new factory clutch still in the box. The owner says the car does not need it, it's just something he bought to put on when the car needed it in the future. The nose and sills of the car are wrapped in a Star
Shield clear bra to protect it from the road. The overall condition of
the car is remarkable, with only a few minor signs of use, namely a few
small stone chips, the normal (but slight) wear to the driver's side seat bolster,
and a few small cracks in very edge of the front wheelarches because the
car previously wore 19 inch wheels. Other than that, the car is about as
immaculate as you could get for a 13 year old car with 25,700 miles on
it. The paint is absolutely beautiful and the interior looks practically
brand new. It has a clean carfax (see pics below.) According to the
previous owner car has never been tracked or abused in any way. I have not driven the car, but the owner says it drives excellent. The car comes with all its records, its original window sticker, a fitted car cover, as well as a number of items for the next tune up. Iridium plugs, plenum gasket, plug wires, etc. A new clutch for the car is also available for an additional cost, for future use. Lotus CEO Jean-Marc Gales abruptly quits
Mon, Jun 4 2018Jean-Marc Gales is out as CEO at sports car maker Lotus after nearly four years and a track record of turning the company from years of financial losses to a small profit. He'll be replaced by Feng Qingfeng, vice president and chief technical officer of China's Geely Auto Group, who joined the company's board after Geely acquired a majority ownership stake a year ago. Gales will continue as chief strategic advisor to Lotus Chairman Daniel Donghui Li. "Jean-Marc has stabilized and turned Lotus to profitability for the first time in the iconic brand's history, with new industry-leading products and unique business models since joining the company in 2014," Daniel, who is also Lotus' chief financial officer, said in a statement. "Lotus is poised for the next phase of growth under Feng Qingfeng's leadership, where its expertise in lightweight materials and sports car engineering will form part of the wider expansion of Geely's automotive portfolio." Gales told Autocar he was leaving for "personal reasons" and said it was "time to move on." He will head up JD Classics, a British dealer and restorer of classic cars. Gales praised his successor, saying Feng could "unlock the synergies" between Geely stablemates Lotus, Volvo, Polestar and Chinese brand Lynk & Co. Lotus under Gales had been working on updating its aging portfolio of cars — the Elise, the Exige and the Evora — with plans to first update the Elise by 2020. Earlier this year came word that Gales had green-lighted two new sports cars, to be announced later this year and produced in 2020, and an SUV about the size of the Porsche Macan and possibly based on Volvo's SPA platform, which underpins the XC60 and XC90. Volvo-based, Chinese-built Lotus SUV allegedly due out in 2020
Thu, Oct 1 2020Lotus will set foot in the lucrative SUV segment before the end of 2020, according to a recent report. It's preparing to unveil a high-riding model named Lambda that will be made in China with Swedish parts. Five-plus years in the making, the first Lotus-badged SUV will share its SPA platform with several members of the Volvo range, including the XC90, and with the plug-in hybrid Polestar 1. Citing unverified reports from China, Holland-based AutoWeek reported the Lambda will land in the same segment as the Porsche Cayenne Coupe and upmarket variants of the BMW X6. Patent images (pictured) suggest it will wear a fastback-like roof line. Using the flexible SPA platform will allow Lotus to offer a variety of powertrains, including gasoline-burning four-cylinder engines with forced induction and at least one plug-in hybrid option. SPA wasn't designed to accommodate six- or eight-cylinders, so leveraging electrification will likely be the easiest way for engineers to unlock more performance. An electric variant will reportedly join the range a little bit later in the 2020s. Production will begin in Wuhan, China, in late 2020, according to the same source. Whether the model will be sold in the United States is up in the air. It would make a significant amount of sense: Americans have an insatiable appetite for SUVs, and the company has often stressed it wants to increase its sales in our market. Lotus hasn't commented on the report, and it has remained quiet about its long-rumored SUV. We heard a lot about the model from Jean-Marc Gales, its former CEO; he notably said it will be to the Cayenne what the Evora is to the 911, and he pledged it would become the fastest and most agile model in its segment. He's gone, replaced by Phil Popham in 2018, so that strategy might have changed. If the rumor is accurate, we won't have to wait long to see how Lotus can apply its design language and its unique engineering philosophy to an SUV. Related Video:
Lotus renames Russell Carr its head of design
Wed, 22 Oct 2014There's been a changing of the guard at Lotus recently. The legendary British sports car manufacturer fired its controversial chief executive Dany Bahar and replaced him recently with Jean-Marc Gales. And now it's named a new chief designer. Or rather, renamed its old one to the post.
That designer is the appropriately named Russell Carr, who had previously held the post until Bahar brought in his former compatriot Donato Coco (with whom he had previously served at Ferrari) and charged him with designing a series of ambitious but ill-fated concept cars that debuted at the 2010 Paris Motor Show and were subsequently axed on Bahar's way out. Now Coco has been shown the door as well, effective at the end of this month. In his place, Carr - who has been with Lotus since 1990 - has been given back his old job after having been demoted to playing second fiddle to Coco for five years.
Although both Gales and Coco both served in senior positions at PSA Peugeot Citroën, Gales didn't join the French automaker until 2009 - the same year that Coco joined Lotus, five years after having left PSA to work at Ferrari.
