2002 Lotus Esprit V8 Twin Turbo #002 Anniversary Edition on 2040-cars
Phoenix, Arizona, United States
History: This is car #002 of 100 anniversary edition models in 2002 which
was the year the body style was updated to include the round tail lights. This
particular car was on the floor at the at the 2002 LA Motor Show and can be
seen in these independent links which I viewed before buying the car: http://www.lotusespritworld.com/EModels/V8US.html http://www.edmunds.com/lotus/esprit/2002/?sub=coupe&ps=used The car was originally sold by Symbolic in La Jolla and then sold privately
to a buyer in Salt Lake City. I purchased it from the second owner in SLC in Sept 2011 with approx. 15,000 miles on it and the car has been garage-kept in Phoenix since. I had
a few routine maintenance service items done at the time of purchase at the
Ferrari Lotus dealer in SLC (alignment, oil change, and a sweating rear axle
seal) and then shipped the car to Phoenix. It has been looked after at the
local dealer since. As Anniversary Edition cars go, this is a rare find, low number car. I believe that there are 7 cars of this color in the 100 car production run. Interior Condition: There are not rips or tears in the leather seats or dash. There is a leather scratch about 1/2 inch long on the driver's seat (from a pant button) and the yellow trim piping on the driver bolster has a 1.5 inch separation. The plastic piping gets very soft in the heat and it separated as I got into the car. Yo won't notice it unless you're looking for it. There is an after-market stereo put in by the previous owner with a satellite radio antenna wired in. The factory stereo is included. The car came with Anniversary Edition mats with color matched embroidery. I haven't seen these in any other Anniversary Edition. The carpeting is in excellent condition except one small patch to the rear of the passenger seat where it looks like it was rubbed off but I bought it that way and I'm not sure what caused it (pictured). I'm not a smoker and I am almost certain that the car has always been smoke-free as there's no trace of it. Exterior Condition: There are stone blemishes on the front end and a couple of stone nicks in the windshield. The ones in the windshield were there when I bought it and are not the star-shaped ones that would spread. There is a paint chip on the neck of each side mirror (pictured). There is some hardened residue about 2 inches long in a streak that is stuck to the lower passenger door. (pictured) The dealer thought it may have been hardened shipping wax but I'm not certain. I did not want to try removing it with any chemical solvent myself. The paint on the underside of the RF fender lip is damaged from running over a piece of re-tread on the freeway (pictured). You can't see it unless you're looking from the underside of the car. There is a small nick on the lip of one of the rims. This car has not been in an accident nor has it had any paintwork or repair. Maintenance: I purchased new Falken tires all around when I bought the vehicle so they have approx 3300 miles on them. Falken and Continental are the only two that make a match set of four for this car's different front and rear sizes. The battery and alternator were replaced in 2012, both fuel pumps in 2013 (one was failing), the thermostat earlier this year, and the rear hatch release cable earlier this year. The car came with aftermarket cats from JAE as factory cats are no longer available. The car is seldom driven and is kept on a battery tender. At about 80mph, there's a slight vibration from the front so I suspect a wheel balancing is needed. I am fanatical about my cars. This hasn't been parked all day in the sun, I don't use it to get groceries where shopping carts might hit it, and I don't park it anywhere other than next to a curb because I don't want door dents. I have meticulously maintained this car. Ancillary Items Included: Both keys and remote fobs, the owners manual, the color-matched hardtop, the factory stereo, the two-piece color-matched air dam (not pictured), and the rubber air dam skirt air included. The air dam pieces have never been mounted. it is missing the glass top fabric pouch that originally came with the vehicle. The previous owner did not have it. Driving: This car is a pleasure to drive. It's smooth through all the gears, incredibly fast, and tight-cornering. Be prepared to be photographed as someone is always taking a picture of it while in traffic! Reason for Selling: I drive the car very infrequently and want to replace it with something that has electronic shifters. While I like a manual gearbox, I'm leaning to the electronic shifters more and more. It'll be hard to part with this as it an exceptionally exhilarating ride. Shipping: I'm happy to help with any buyer-paid shipping. |

Lotus is giving the electric Evija a V8-inspired soundtrack
Thu, Mar 11 2021Sound is a big part of the Lotus experience, whether it comes from a four- or a six-cylinder engine, so the company doesn't want its first electric car to be completely silent. It enlisted the help of music producer Patrick Patrikios to remix the Type 49 Formula One car's V8 into a series of sounds that will be programmed into the upcoming Evija. Patrikios comes from the music industry, he has notably worked with artists like Sia and Britney Spears, but he welcomed the collaboration with Lotus because he's been a fan of the brand since his father showed him an Esprit when he was a kid. He set out to create a new range of sounds that fits the Evija's character while honoring the carmaker's heritage, a task that's difficult to accomplish. Luckily, Lotus has several sonorous engines on its resume. "There's a purity to that V8, a raw edge and an emotion that stirs something in your soul, just like the best songs," summed up the producer when asked why he chose the eight-cylinder that powered the Type 49 to victory. Lotus Evija and Lotus Type 49 View 3 Photos After recording the Type 49's exhaust note, he began digitally remastering it and realized that slowing it down put it on a frequency similar to the natural driving sound emitted by the Evija. "I adjusted the replay speeds and digital filtering of the Type 49 to generate a soundscape for the Evija – it was a very organic process," he said. You can listen to the sound created by Patrikios in the video above; it's what pedestrians will hear when the Evija speeds by. He also developed the various chimes and tones that will resonate through the cabin, like when the turn signals are activated or when a seatbelt isn't fastened. Lotus previously confirmed that the Evija will influence future cars, and we know additional EVs are in the pipeline, so the sound could spread to other models.
Lotus Elise Cup 260 celebrates the automaker's 70th anniversary
Fri, Oct 20 2017Lotus rides the special edition train nearly as often as Jeep. When you only sell a few models, you need to make the most of what you have. Today, Lotus announced a new very-limited-edition variant, the Elise Cup 260. Just 30 examples will be built and, based on pricing, it doesn't look like it will be coming to America. Hey, the cars are likely all spoken for already. The Elise Cup 260 builds on the Cup 250 and takes influence from the Lotus Evora GT430 and Exige Cup 380. Lotus says this car is even lighter than the already pint-sized Cup 250. Downforce is the name of the game with the Cup 260. The car makes 397 pounds of downforce at 151 mph (44 percent better than the Cup 250), helping the car maneuver around a circuit with copious amounts of traction. The key components here are louvered front fenders, a carbon fiber front splitter and a carbon fiber rear wing that wouldn't look out of place on an FIA-spec GT car. All of the lightweight performance options from the Cup 250 are standard equipment on the Cup 260. The sill covers, roll hoop cover, front access panel and engine cover are all made of carbon fiber. It also uses a polycarbonate backlight glass to save more weight. The Cup 260 has two-piece rotors and two-way adjustable Nitron dampers at all four corners. Strangely, the Elise uses AP Racing calipers up front and a set of Brembo clamps out back. The Elise Cup 260 is powered by a supercharged 1.8-liter inline four making 250 horsepower and 188 pound feet of torque. In the right hands, the Lotus will hit 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds. Top speed is listed as 151 mph. Lotus' Hethel track is the true benchmark of any car to wear the green and yellow badge. On it, the Cup 260 is 2.5 seconds faster than the Cup 250. The exterior has been done up in gold and features a couple of wreaths meant to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Lotus' first car. The car comes standard with Alcantara upholstery, but if it were our money we'd spring for either the yellow or red Tartan trim pack. As befitting any Lotus, weight savings was first and foremost. Things like air conditioning, carpeting and sound deadening material are all optional extras. Pricing has only been announced for Europe, but the UK base price converts to roughly $77,800. Not cheap, but few if any cars provide the pure, unadulterated driving experience of a Lotus. Related Video:
Lotus Evora 400 shows the new face of progress [w/video]
Tue, Mar 3 2015Lotus may have scrapped all the grandiose plans of the preceding administration, but don't think for one minute that it's going to just sit on its finely honed laurels. No, the British automaker plans to revitalize its existing lineup, starting with the new Evora 400. Based on the company's existing 2+2 sports car, the new Evora 400 features a revised version of the Toyota-sourced 3.5-liter supercharged V6 that now produces 55 more horsepower than the Evora S for a titular total of 400 hp and 302 lb-ft of torque. With revised aero, bodywork, electronics, differential, gearbox and brakes, the new Evora 400 debuting here at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show will now run to 60 in 4.1 seconds, reach a top speed of 186 miles per hour and lap the company's famously grueling test track six seconds faster than the previous model. If that's what resting on laurels looks like, we'll be taking our next vacation in Hethel, England.
