The Lotus Esprit is an iconic Super Car for its appearances in James Bond’s “The Spy who Loved Me” and "For
Your Eyes Only" movies, and who can’t forget the scenes in “Pretty Woman” and in “Basic Instinct”. The
Esprit’s timeless lines, amazing delivery of speed and performance make it an amazing collector car. It's not
often that one comes through the doors of Flat 12 Gallery, as not many were produced or kept to the standards that
we require. We were lucky enough to find this example in Southern California and are able to offer it for sale to
the public. We believe that Lotus Esprits are quite the gem in both the performance department and upcoming
collectability, like we have seen with Ferrari’s and Porsches of late. These cars, in our opinion, are a great
investment vehicle and a pleasure to drive.

Lotus was careful in keeping the Esprit production numbers low, with lifelong limited production numbers for ALL
Esprits shipped worldwide from 1976 to 2004 coming in at 10,675 total units. Which if you average that number over
the production years it would mean they average of only 381 cars built every year TOTAL! Although production
numbers varied over the years, this 1998 Lotus featured here is one of only 301 were build that year with only 142
V8’s, 99 being V8GT's and 60 being GT3’s. So in true super car fashion they are an elitist, limited production
super car.

This 1998 B03 Calypso Red Lotus with Magnolia interior Esprit 3.5L Twin Turbo V8 is an amazing example of the Lotus
vehicle. It has been well cared for with tatesful upgrades added to give it that timeless exotic sports car
appeal. You can easily pull up to a million dollar ride and still feel relevant. The paint, finish and interior
on this Epsrit will not disappoint, as it is apparent that the previous owners of this car wanted a top notch ride
that didn't show its age. This example has two signatures on the inner fender one we have concluded is Roger G.
Becker who was an important part of Lotus from 1966-2010 as Product Engineering Director and is also mentioned as a
stunt driver in the James Bond thriller "The Spy Who Loved Me" and the second signature we are still researching.
It was also photographed for an upcoming magazine feature and a sample photo has been placed at the end of the
photos. The car you see in the photograph is this actual car.

The B03 Calypso Red paint is extremely fresh with some rock chips present but with an overall thick fresh paint
vibe. There are some scraps to the black lower valance on the front bumper from use and a few touched up rock
chips.

The Magnolia interior has not been re-dyed or as we like to say "spray dyed" which truly makes a difference when
you get up close and once you feel the leather. The interior shows extremely well and appears original with only
some minor wearing to the boldest of the drivers seat. Normal leather creases are visible and are appreciated over
a spray dyed look. The carpets, door panels, dash, gauges, shifter, etc are all in excellent condition.

I have been around quite a few Esprits and many have issues with the seat leather shrinking and the paint vibrancy
and often times they appear like a 90’s car. This Esprit looks like a modern supercar with its glossy red
exterior, tasteful upgrades, custom black nicely staggered Forgestar Performance Wheels 18" in the front and 19" in
the rear wheels that are wrapped in nicely treaded 225 40R18 and 305 30R19 Potenza tires. It is finished with a
color matched removable Sunroof. I do want to remind the taller drivers that this model will house someone up to
about 6'5" unlike the older versions. Take a look at the photographs as you will see a difference in quality of
this Lotus.

Powered by 3.5L V8 Twin Turno with 5 speed transmission, leather Seats, Power windows, locks and mirriors with cold
A/C and MP3 adaptable Alpine stereo. This really is a respectable example of the Lotus sports car that graced the
scenes of so many iconic movies! We appreciate the tasteful updated look like the rear facia with the center
exiting exhaust system and the safety addition of the turbo timer to always allow adequate turbo calling time.

Lotus Type 130 electric hypercar confirmed for July 16 reveal

Fri, May 31 2019

Lotus just formally announced that its electric hypercar will be revealed on July 16. It's called the Type 130, and it's confirmed for production at Lotus headquarters in Hethel, Norfolk. The name is derived directly from the production quantity, as Lotus is capping the car at just 130 units. This project is coming together at a rapid pace, as Lotus also says the first customer deliveries will happen in 2020. Meeting time goals for the production of EVs has proven troublesome for some manufacturers, so we'll see if Lotus is able to deliver in the next year and a half. The British sports car company has Chinese backing in the form of Geely now, so the funds to make this car happen appear to be there. Lotus says that it's had several hundred people express interest in buying the Type 130 since its confirmation at the Shanghai Auto Show. Of course, with only 130 slots available to buy the vehicle, we'll see how it all shakes out once Lotus announces what we expect will be an extravagant price tag. Hypercars, and especially electric hypercars, are never cheap. Lotus released a teaser photo that tells us next to nothing, but it is a photo of the car. The teaser video below is a bit more interesting with the "Hand Built in Britain By Lotus" emblem and the electric charge port hidden off to the left. It has an automatically closing door there, which doesn't exactly feel like Lotus' style. If something can be done mechanically to save weight, that's typically the path taken. We won't prejudge the car too harshly, though, as this represents an entirely new take on Lotus vehicles. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Lotus Elise Cup 260 celebrates the automaker's 70th anniversary

Fri, Oct 20 2017

Lotus rides the special edition train nearly as often as Jeep. When you only sell a few models, you need to make the most of what you have. Today, Lotus announced a new very-limited-edition variant, the Elise Cup 260. Just 30 examples will be built and, based on pricing, it doesn't look like it will be coming to America. Hey, the cars are likely all spoken for already. The Elise Cup 260 builds on the Cup 250 and takes influence from the Lotus Evora GT430 and Exige Cup 380. Lotus says this car is even lighter than the already pint-sized Cup 250. Downforce is the name of the game with the Cup 260. The car makes 397 pounds of downforce at 151 mph (44 percent better than the Cup 250), helping the car maneuver around a circuit with copious amounts of traction. The key components here are louvered front fenders, a carbon fiber front splitter and a carbon fiber rear wing that wouldn't look out of place on an FIA-spec GT car. All of the lightweight performance options from the Cup 250 are standard equipment on the Cup 260. The sill covers, roll hoop cover, front access panel and engine cover are all made of carbon fiber. It also uses a polycarbonate backlight glass to save more weight. The Cup 260 has two-piece rotors and two-way adjustable Nitron dampers at all four corners. Strangely, the Elise uses AP Racing calipers up front and a set of Brembo clamps out back. The Elise Cup 260 is powered by a supercharged 1.8-liter inline four making 250 horsepower and 188 pound feet of torque. In the right hands, the Lotus will hit 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds. Top speed is listed as 151 mph. Lotus' Hethel track is the true benchmark of any car to wear the green and yellow badge. On it, the Cup 260 is 2.5 seconds faster than the Cup 250. The exterior has been done up in gold and features a couple of wreaths meant to commemorate the 70th anniversary of Lotus' first car. The car comes standard with Alcantara upholstery, but if it were our money we'd spring for either the yellow or red Tartan trim pack. As befitting any Lotus, weight savings was first and foremost. Things like air conditioning, carpeting and sound deadening material are all optional extras. Pricing has only been announced for Europe, but the UK base price converts to roughly $77,800. Not cheap, but few if any cars provide the pure, unadulterated driving experience of a Lotus. Related Video:

Lotus Evija EV supercar is charging toward series production

Wed, Feb 19 2020

It's almost time for Lotus to begin production of real Evijas bound for customers, but first, it must go through its final round of testing. To accomplish this task, Lotus had to prep its brand-new production facility to build the final prototypes. New photos and video give a glimpse of what the Lotus assembly hall looks like.  The Evija, which means "the first in existence," is an all-electric supercar that Lotus hopes will be the most powerful production road car ever made. The supercar uses electric motors for four-wheel drive with torque vectoring and has a battery pack rated at 70kWh. Lotus claims it has 1,973 horsepower and 1,254 lb-ft of torque, can go zero to 60 mph in less than three seconds, can do zero to 186 mph in less than nine seconds, and has a top speed of 200 mph. All of that, with a weight of 3,704 pounds.  Possibly more impressive are the claimed battery stats. The Evija, which is the first Lotus developed with new majority shareholder Geely, can supposedly fully charge in less than 10 minutes and has a range of 250 miles. With a 350-kW charger, it'll fill up in 18 minutes. Lotus says the Evija has been an extremely collaborative effort, as 20 specialist contractors and 50 experts have been on site for the past six months. They've been hard at work in the new facility, which is located next to the 2.2-mile Hethel circuit in Hethel, in Norfolk, U.K. Check out the new state-of-the-art light tunnel, the vehicle lifts, the gantry crane, and more above and below.
