You are viewing my incredible 1987 Lotus Turbo Esprit, one of the rarest supercars of the 80's. This handbuilt exotic is one of only approximately 189 made that year, and is in fantastic shape. The bright red paint is stunning and the car has always been garaged and covered (custom Beverly Hills car cover made specifically for this car is included). The car was just washed before taking these pics so there is some water dripping on the rear bumper and suds/water inside door jambs (looks like clear coat peeling in the passenger side leather door panel pic but it's not)...water reflections/soap...not flaws. The full beige leather interior (by "full" I mean virtually every surface in the cockpit is covered in supple leather and is in near flawless condition). The interior is almost like new, with virtually no wear and tear. The seats are super supple and very supportive. The tan carpet looks as if the car just rolled off the showroom floor. It has never been smoked in. The 5 speed transmission is crisp and shifts precisely into every gear. Tires and brakes are great. Switches and gauges function properly. A/C works. If you've been looking for a Lotus Turbo Esprit, then you know how amazing these things handle. It's literally like a street legal race car. The car has been babied and well maintained it's entire life with a "money is no object" mentality. I have a thick folder of service records (this car has always been properly maintained), factory Lotus service/parts manuals (2) and original owners booklet that will be included (see pic). I also have both sets of keys. In addition, the original window sticker is included which shows the car was over $58k in 1987! That was a TON of money 25 years ago!!! The Lotus Turbo Esprit rivaled the likes of Ferrari and Lamborghini, and to this day still looks intimidating and timeless! I am 6'2" and what's nice about this model year is the roof panel easily pops out and gives you an open air cockpit that not only looks great but it also allows for more headroom. I currently own 2 Turbo Esprit's (my other is a yellow '91SE) and I've owned an '83 and '85 in the past (neither of which had the removable roof). This is a great feature. It stows in the trunk (cover included) and a silver wind valance pops in place (also included). I recently spent almost $2700 having it serviced, so she is ready to go and the next owner will have countless hours and miles of entertainment and excitement. I absolutely LOVE this car but my wife (boo!) insists that I start thinning down my collection (currently 11 cars). I drove it yesterday and I cannot put in words how sweet she is. If you don't like attention, then this is not the car for you. But, if you enjoy owning one of the finest, rarest, most affordable exotics on the planet and don't mind endless admiration then by all means bid away. THIS is THE car for you! These are super affordable to insure through companies like Hagerty and Grundy. Based on Hagerty's valuation, this is a #2 car valued at $21,500 and the prices are trending upwards. Not only is this a blast to drive, but a great investment as well! I am a private collector and all sales are final. Please ask any and all questions PRIOR to bidding. Lotus bids farewell to the Elise and the Exige with Final Edition models
Mon, Feb 8 2021Lotus will put the Elise, the Exige, and the Evora out to pasture later in 2021 to make room for a new model that internally is being called Type 131. Before it embarks on this major lineup overhaul, the firm will send off the Elise and the Exige — two of its best-known and longest-running models — with a limited Final Edition. Fittingly, the Final Edition models represent the ultimate evolution of the Elise and the Exige, nameplates released 25 and 21 years ago, respectively. Lotus added power and, somewhat surprisingly, equipment without straying from the famous "light is right" philosophy that shaped both cars. Collectors have two variants of the Elise (Sport 240 and Cup 250) and three of the Exige (Sport 390, Sport 420, and Cup 430) to choose from. Stepping inside either Final Edition version of the Elise reveals a thin-film transistor (TFT) instrument cluster that can be configured with regular gauges or a racecar-like display, depending on whether motorists plan to hit the road or the track. Lotus also redesigned the steering wheel to give taller drivers more space. New upholstery and stitching patterns round out the major updates, and every Final Edition wears a specific metal plaque. Outside, the changes include new additions to the palette, including Azure Blue, which was one of the launch colors when the Elise was presented to the press in 1996. Racing Green, the hue worn by the model when it made its global debut at the 1995 edition of the Frankfurt auto show, makes a comeback as well. If 2,032 pounds is too heavy, Lotus offers optional parts (like carbon fiber panels) that shed 53 pounds. Power for the Elise still comes from a supercharged, 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine mounted directly behind the passenger compartment. It delivers 240 horsepower (23 more than stock) and 180 pound-feet of torque, figures that give the roadster a 4.1-second zero-to-60-mph time. Selecting the Cup model brings a full body kit that generates 145 pounds of downforce at 100 mph and 341 pounds at the Elise's 154-mph top speed. Like the Elise, the Exige range receives Final Edition-specific paint colors, decals, and other exterior accents. Inside, it's a similar story: Lotus added a TFT screen and a new steering wheel, among other updated parts. Instead of a four-cylinder, the Exige packs a meaner punch thanks to a supercharged, 3.5-liter V6 tuned to put 397 horsepower (a 47-horse increase) and 310 pound-feet of torque under the driver's right foot.

Sat, Jul 16 2016Automakers roll out loads of video content these days, but they often do so much editing and add so much background music that you miss out on the best stuff. With this video, Lotus shows they know what's important. This video shows Lotus's Evora 400 spending some time out on their test track in Hethel. The video is quite short and consists mostly of some onboard footage, but Lotus clearly invested in the sound recording. This Evora's 400 horsepower, supercharged V6 sounds brilliant as it screams around the course. We'll be getting a version of this car in the States this year. Lotus intends on selling the fittingly named Evora Sport 410 (for its 400 horse output) in America. It's possible we may see a lower-end model as well without the supercharger or with a smaller engine. No matter what though, great-sounding Lotuses are in our future. Alpine joins forces with Lotus to develop an electric sports car
Thu, Jan 14 2021Renault's performance-rooted Alpine division linked arms with Caterham to develop the current-generation A110, but it brought the project in-house after the partnership collapsed. It's again looking across the English Channel to design the model's replacement. It teamed up with Lotus to examine ways to create a nimble electric sports car. Both companies issued a statement to cautiously explain the project remains at the embryonic stage. Development work hasn't started yet. Executives simply agreed to conduct a comprehensive feasibility study for the joint engineering, design, and development of a battery-powered model. On the French side, the car (assuming it's approved) will replace the A110. In the United Kingdom, it's unclear whether the Lotus-badged variant will take the torch from an existing model (like the Elise), or if it will be positioned as a standalone car. While it sounds like nothing is set in stone yet, the match makes sense. Alpine and Lotus are both niche players in the automotive industry, though they're part of much larger groups (Geely owns Lotus). And they both made a name for themselves by building light sports cars. Neither has ever offered a rival to the Lamborghini Aventador, for example. Working together will allow them to find a common solution to the problem of offsetting the mass of an electric powertrain. Overlapping is certainly possible, but Alpine and Lotus can stay in opposite corners of the same room if they put their respective DNAs front and center. Their jointly-developed electric sports car will need to be small, nimble, and quick. From there, Lotus could shape its version as a convertible (or at least with removable roof panels) while Alpine could turn its model into a coupe, the body style it's most closely associated with. Design will be a major differentiating factor, too. Lotus previously hinted its future cars will borrow styling cues from the Evija. We don't know exactly where Alpine is headed, but nothing suggests its future cars will also look like the Evija. Alpine's reshuffling won't end there. Renault announced that the firm will gain responsibility for Renault Sport and Renault Sport Racing in the coming years, and that it will become 100% electric. It will introduce at least three new models during the first half of the 2020s: a car that looks like a city-friendly hatchback, its first crossover, inevitably, and the aforementioned A110 replacement.
